Starships remind me of OG C'thun. They want you to fill your deck with subpar minions in order to build into a late game wincon, but not only are they usually not game enders but unlike C'thun they sit on the field and beg to be answered before you can even launch them. Not to mention the pieces all need to die to be added to the ship, while C'thun minions were battlecries or static effects. Just overall feels like a way too underpowered mechanic for current hearthstone, would only work if the payoff was way more insane or if the pieces were better on their face. Think the warrior early in the video might have the best plan for them, just running the handful of pieces that are good in their deck anyway and treating the ship like a free 5-cost taunt they can summon when they have nothing better to do.
I honestly think using cube or making copies of the star ship is the better play. Build the star ship and lunch it for 5 then copy it, or bounce it to hand when needed. A better zilliax 3k but worse cthun
Plus, the cthun cards actually weren't that bad, summoning 2 4/6 taunts for 7 mana was pretty good back in the day. Starship pieces are just bad bodies.
@retronymph A lot of the C'thun payoff cards were good, but most of the enablers were cards you'd never want in anything other than a c'thun deck. Starships are actually similar, a lot of the "if you're building a spaceship" cards are actually good, but you have to fill your deck with so much crap to turn them on consistently that they aren't worth it.
I’m wondering if it’s unintented? Part of me thinks they recycled code from Titans and the protocols are erroneously treated as Titan abilities Unless this is intentional and I’m overthinking it, which is likely.
I mean just compare Starships to Titans or Giants. Giants come onto the board and you have a big hitter right away + some smaller minions with good effects usually. Titans give you 3 powerful effects that can decide the game and you just can throw them on the board. Starships need set up to give you a big hitter and the effects it gives you are not even game winning.
I have no idea why they made the individual pieces so terrible. A 4 mana 3/4 taunt? A 5 mana 4/3 do nothing? One of the best ones is a 2 mana 3/2 lifesteal. Those are unplayably bad in Standard. And the payoff is a slow big guy that doesn't do much? They could reduce the cost of most starship pieces by 1, and the mechanic would be strong but fair, probably. They are that bad.
@@FafliXxthey seem bad on their own but it looks likeeople are not playing or play testing cube lock with the new pieces. They also are not really going nuts with bounce rogue either.

It's really not a bad card. You have about a 95% chance of getting something decent or better each roll(~5/5 stats or a useful ability) with about a 10% chance of one of the real high rolls.
@@MrShukaku1991 It is bad. Playing a card that does nothing but make you drawing your important cards harder on the first turn, and then playing a 5-mana card to get a 5-mana minion, in standard is awful. It blows my mind how people go from "Oh wow geeze this power creep sure is crazy I hope the Hearthstone team does something about it." to "What do you mean I can have endless starships!?!? And no unlimited value! UNPLAYABLE GIVE ME MOOOORE POWER CREEP!"
That's the problem with cardgame design. MTG did the same mistake decades ago now & nearly killed the game. If you release a set (or sets) to combat creep, essentially you just haven't released anything at all because those cards will not be played. Worse, you may have gotten some players excited only to dash their hopes when the card they liked turns out to be trash. The answer to creep is counterplay, not depowering. Creep is only a problem when it is asymmetrical.
@@Shadow-bk1im Maybe Hearthstone could do that, being online only & having no monetary value to the cards -- that said, I suspect there'd still be sizeable outrage at all of standard being suddenly thrown out, including the most recent sets. Really, there isn't any issue with power creep in a rotating format as long as it's gradual & even. The absolute values on the cards is meaningless -- their relative value to eachother is what matters. & when it comes to games being too fast or slow, that's where printing effective counterplay comes in.
