Suraj ud dowla inherited the throne of Bengal from is maternal grandfather Ali Vardi Khan, not exactly from his father Zain ud din Khan. After his defeat in the battle of Plassey , he fled to his capital Murshidaabad. On his way he was recognized by a fakir, who caught & handed him to Mir Zafar, who put him in prison. Later he was stabbed to death by an executioner named Mohammadi Beg under the orders of Mir Miran, son of Mir Zafar. He was never hanged by the British. .
