Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of The Two Man Power Trip
What happens when you pair up Stone Cold Steve Austin with "The Game" Triple H? You get The Two Man Power Trip, an unstoppable force in the WWF that was on track to changing the landscape of the company.
When Stone Cold Steve Austin turned heel at WrestleMania 17, he aligned himself with Vince McMahon. Another man who was friendly with the boss was Triple H, and through this mutual friendship, Austin and Triple H would team up to form The Power Trip, a tag team within the WWF that went on to capture a huge amount of championship gold in a short period of time. Steve Austin and Triple H would mainly feud with The Hardy Boyz and The Brothers of Destruction during their short time together, but fans fondly remember the time when 2 of the most popular superstars joined forces to create destruction in the WWE.
This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios takes a look at The Two Man Power Trip in the WWE. Topics covered include:
00:44 - Steve Austin vs The Rock at WrestleMania X7
03:25 - Steve Austin turns heel and joins forces with Vince McMahon
05:40 - The Undertaker battles Triple H at WrestleMania X7
06:45 - The 2 Man Power Trip is created on WWF Raw
09:09 - Jim Ross and Steve Austin have a falling out
11:57 - The Two Man Power Trip vs Team Xtreme
14:04 - Steve Austin and Triple H begin feuding with Undertaker and Kane
18:24 - The End of The Two Man Power Trip
    - Much More!

I don't think HHH gets quite enough credit for being such a solid and consistent heel for so many years. He's seen as a company man these days, marrying the boss's daughter and all that. But for many years, he was probably the most effective and reliable heel in the WWF, so much so that for me he transcended the traditional heel role and became a sort of contrarian anti-hero that I often rooted for against some of the lame babyfaces

This killed the rivalry between Austin and Triple H and things were never quite the same again afterwards. I get that they wanted to do something different with Austin's character, but it felt like they were just relying on shock rather than logic. Stone Cold and Triple H had been involved in a blood feud for the better part of the previous four months, and now a month removed from their two out of three falls match at No Way Out, the two were able to put that hatred aside and team up together. In my mind, this was the true end of wrestling as must see tv. Forget Austin and McMahon aligning. Austin teaming with the guy who planned running him over was preposterous. His reasoning with JR was that he wanted someone that diabolical on his team. By that logic, he should've teamed with Rikishi, the one who actually did run him over. And even forget about that, just as recent as a month before these two were feuding and at each other's throats.

I stopped watching wrestling not long after Austin turned heel. Things just weren't the same when WCW collapsed and I was so disappointed with what Vince did with the product. I always thought Vince should have let Shane go off and run WCW away from the WWF and maybe every now and then have invasions or cross over events and wrestlers jumping ship to the other company to keep things interesting.
Me and my friends had watched wrestling obsessively from about 1995-2001 but all at the same time we all stopped watching around then.

I didn’t mind Austin turning heel, but they probably should have hinted at it wiithout McMahon at WM, just have Austin get desperate and take the chair to Rock, then introduce his McMahon partnership the next day. Also, I think HHH should have been more of a reluctant partner, forced into partnering with Austin by his father in law since he hated him. This could have led to an eventual blow up and major SummerSlam match if HHH doesn’t get injured

2001 was a tough year with roaster holes. Rock was gone for months. WWF really phoned it in on that whole build by having it be Rikishi. When the crowd didn't buy it, they added hhh. The feud lasted 3 weeks with Austin getting hot shotted to the title. Austin-McMahon effectively ushered in the end of the Atittude Era and you can see the crowds start to diminish and the audience reactions die out compared to 98-2000.
