Remember that movie. It is thought provoking. Thank you! Good tips on self improvement. God is in control when we trust him and seek His will 🙏 🕊️
Sometimes, not getting what we think we want is a wonderful stroke of luck.
I'm 64 and I can attest to that! I am grateful for those mistakes now...❤❤
The acronym for the word "N.O."
Next Opportunity!
Dr. Suneel is humanitarian awesome!
What a beautiful soul you are. Thank you for your whole work. You have a lot of silent friends.
This guy ran off to America to extract as much money as possible whilst leaving both you and the NHS to rot.
Really appreciate you watching and your kind words
And, I am one of them
I am definitely one of them.
And I am one of them!!❤
You are an absolute gentleman.
I follow & listen to you onna regular. The world needs more like your self .
😁🙏
Thanks for watching! Really appreciate it. Best wishes, Suneel Dhand
1. self improvement. I had a tumor. After surgery, I could not read, print, write, type. The doctor said to do crossword puzzles. No. I learned another language and embarked on a campaign to read a book by every Nobel Literature Prize awardee. I had to do flash cards.
2. right places - showing up. I religiously take a salon Argietine tango class every single week, not skipping one. I have no danced all over the world.
3. Open mind - every day, I remind myself to question my assumptions and my indoctrination. Nearly everything I was taught in college in the 1960s has been superseded, retracted or revised.
Inspiring! Thanks for sharing your story. Wishing you well
Thank you for sharing your success story
You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your positivity . 😊
Thank you for sharing. I really needed this video and your inspiring story 🙂
I have had the same experience with my microbiology degree. It is disturbing at first but I choose to see it as the gift on novelty, a chance to look at the world from a different perspective.
Wish you were my doctor.
I have lost all faith in the NHS 😅
Definitely
Im very sorry to say I also would worry what would happen if I had to go into an NHS hospital! I haven’t got complete confidence I’d get quality care ….
Even in ICU, I was there alone for 21 days, due to the COVID madness. I forced myself to continue learning German as I moved there when I was sixty. Currently 2 years 4 months cancer free, every day is a gift!
I got my first degree at 40, doing a part time degree with a full time job and renovating a hovel as that was all the money I had. I now have a 4 bathroom house!
Remember, if you didn't do well in school, keep learning and you are the only thing stopping you from achieving your goals..
Sliding Doors starring Gwyneth Paltrow, one of my favorite movies. Definitely thought provoking.
It is indeed! Thanks for watching
You are soooooo much more than a "doctor"! Thank you for being You!
Yes so much more...its aye eye !!
Once you realize this, you become more calm, and stress levels decrease. It is not only good for the mind, but good for the body.
Exactly! Very true
I wanted a particular sports car that is very expensive. Some years later when I had enough money to buy it, I felt that it was not at all what I wanted. Fortunately, I realized the appeal and glitter of an expensive car would grow old, probably within weeks. What I really wanted was to help support someone with a clear career goal to achieve more in this world, but did not have the opportunities in life that I was blessed with. The right decision was made for me as if destined at the proper time and the reward will last a lifetime.
Doc, I started the fasting. Not eating till 2pm. You are right, my energy has soared :) Thank you!
Are you low carb too??
@@nickbonvino No. I gave up bread/wheat because I am addicted. But I eat things like baked sweet potatoes, oatmeal, avocado. Cheers :)
I needed to hear this. Thank you so much.
Decades ago the ruling class promoted college as the only way to be a winner and owning a house was the best investment. In this way they secured a working class that would be in debt to them. The fact that the rest of the world does not require general college before medical school, helps to affirm this.
Ruling class...
@@tomday5830 I'm gonna call them the "ruining" class.
The rest of the world (including where I live) has a separate "all inclusive" medicine track of 6 years. Not the 4 years undergraduate and 4 years medical school the US has. No Liberal arts classes, no English composition, no physical education, no political science. Just relevant material relevant to the profession. What a concept.
I often use this strategy to reflect on how lucky I am. Many "doors" could have led to much worse outcomes and some seemed to be just seconds off. Self improvement is monumental - it has no doubt vastly expanded my life - now 95% of it is just the way I like it. I'm very fortunate.
My mother was an educator for 36 yrs...when I went to nursing school I thought it was a waste of time for me to take certain classes that had absolutely nothing to do with nursing. My mother's reply was..it's all about the money what they can charge you for not what you need for your career... doors open and close as needed in your life sometimes you ignore them bc it's not what you want at that time...I truly believe you make your way as you are able but you also have to make the sacrifices needed to take each step...and as long as you're happy then that's what counts.
As it is written, "Man plans his way, but God directs his path." (KJV) 🙏
Truth!
LOL
I learned this as: "Man proposes. God disposes."
@@videowatcheriAlberta There are many versions of the Bible on this scripture, among others.
Thank you for this.
As long as there is life, there's hope
As the great Gary Player said, ' the harder a practice the luckier i get '. Good saying for anything in life.
Thanks for signing The Hope Accord!
What great wisdom from your teacher. I’m in my 60s. Made plenty of mistakes in my life that seemed horrible at the time but believe me things get better and you will survive. I remember getting laid off from a job in my early twenties and crying all night. But in fact it was a blessing as managed to snare a great position not long after. Life can be unpredictable
Beautiful message 🥰
I absolutely love your content! Please keep it coming!
What a fantastic message for all of us, but particularly the young. Thank you
Thank you Doctor for your kind message of encouragement 🙏🏻
💯%, Dr. Dhand! I can attest to these things in my own life.
God’s plans for us tend to be even better than our own. As St. Therese said, “Everything is grace.” Enjoy the journey, with a heart full of love and gratitude. Blessings will follow. Thank you, Dr. Dhand, as ever.
Very true. A round of applause for Mrs Boyd.
I use that movie all the time when telling certain stories. Most people I know have never seen the movie. It's an old Gwyneth Paltrow movie and I absolutely LOVED the concept. It also show us how every decision we make takes us to where we are, no matter how minute. Love your videos.
I have been feeling very depressed and lost lately. This was just the message I needed to hear. Thank you.
Thank you Dr Dhand, for the great information, you are a precious gem 💎to us your listeners . You are abundantly apreciated. G.blless you .
Thank you for sharing!!! This is such a Great message for young people. Keep an open mind and realize there are so many options in life.
God has a plan for us and sometimes it is a different plan than the one we desire; thanks Dr. Dhand for another great video
He always knows best, but I need to trust Him and be willing to let Him lead me, even if I do not understand His plan. Becoming upset and doubting Him, and even becoming angry and rebellious only got me into trouble -- it was a kind of self-torment. He really does know best, and it helps a lot that He has proved it to me.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
(Proverbs 3:5-6, New American Standard Bible, 1995 edition)
"2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
(James 1:2-8, NASB, 1995 ed.)
I think it's a bit easier to understand in the Classic edition of the Amplified Bible:
"3 Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.
4 But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.
5 If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.
6 Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind.
7 For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord,
8 [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides]."
Your encouragement is so very important to me. Heartfelt gratitude!
Thank you for sharing these important thoughts. Dr. Dhand you're the best!
Top notch Doctor, you are one of a kind! I wish I had friends like you when growing up however you make many realize it's not too late! Thank you!!
Whenever I need a quick boost of encouragement to carry on, Dr. Suneel Dhand comes to mind. Thank you Dr. Dhand ❤
Great advice. Especially true for where you live. There's no one right place. Where ever you end up there will always be different friends and different experiences and different opportunities. It's what you make of them that matters
Three things that people should always do to make sure that the door that opens for them is even better than the one that closed 3:37
1) A commitment to self-improvement 3:53
2) Putting yourself in the right places all the time 4:45
3) Keep an open mind 5:30
I'm 52 and I needed to hear this.
I had one single teacher who gave me an extra responsibility in junior high (in class) and I remember him so fondly still. Teachers and parents have so much power!
You are a true asset of humanity. Luckily, I know some of the most accomplished physicians in the world. Unfortunately I move back to the States and I have a hit and run doctor. Thank you for your service. Maybe someday you and I will meet. I'd like to shake your hand and thank you for your humanitarian aid in reference to medicine. I specialize in VSD. There are only two doctors in the world that do what I do. My undergraduate degree is mechanical engineering and I've been able to utilize that skill set into medicine. Anyways, thanks again!.
Brilliant message! Life happens FOR us not to us..Thank you...
I have seen the movie several times with Gwyneth Paltrow........interesting analogy. As a person of faith I believe our Heavenly Father opens and closes doors and windows for us.
Marriage is a good example of this. I married a person from the same state in the US where I lived. However, if I had lived, or gone to school in a different state or country, I probably would have met and married a different person and been just as happy as I now am. I think we are all capable of loving many different people, but once we choose someone, it's our commitment to them that keeps us together. Therefore, some sliding doors must remain closed.
I watched the Sliding Doors film years ago. I often think of this film when i have a "near miss" or just when things dont turn out as I planned.
Humility. Openness. Drive. Hope.
Nice to hear something inspiring!
Dr. Dhand, you have been an inspiration, an abiding support, a beam of hope, to those of us who have been listening to you during the last few difficult years.
From Canada, with respect, gratitude and in admiration.
Really appreciate your kind words. I’ll keep doing my best.
Thank you for sharing your story. We all fail sometimes but life goes on and it is never the disaster we think it is. Brilliant …after the exam struggles of many students a heart warming story.
In my own life I have practiced these principles and have achieved wonderful results from seemingly disastrous situations.
This is one video I will watch again!
I enjoy every one of your presentations but every now and then you come up with something outstanding 🙏
Your spot on, Dr 💓
I am adult now and I have realised how important in life is taking good decisions considering our sitiation, family status and our own personality. We can not have everything but we should respect and love what we have and achieved. I really like this sliding doors story. Thank You dr Dhand.
Whilst I'm glad that the 'Sliding Doors of Life' has worked for you (and, I'm sure, other commenters), it hasn't for me. My life has been one door after another slamming in my face (I even joke that my nose must resemble a Pug because of the constant doors hitting it!). Everything I've tried has failed - and I mean EVERYTHING. Some people must just be put on this earth to be examples of 'how to fail at everything' and I guess I'm right at the top of that list - but it's not for the want of trying. Hey ho.....
What an encouraging message.
Thank you. I needed it
Thank you very important. Life is a challenge!
Yup... you chooose to be *pure blooodded* you remain *pure blooodded* 💪🏼💪🏼
This is such a beautiful video. Thank you❤. You reminded me of my younger sister and I call her the sliding door. Her life had some dramatic twists and turns and she always reacted in this attitude. She even met her husband when she went on a business trip she wasn t so eager to go and at the airport when the sliding doors opened, she saw a man who became her husband. They recognised each other through the sliding doors.❤
Wish I'd had a teacher like that. Great advice and it shows . Btw thank you for signing the Hope Accord. You may want to tell people about it if you haven't. Much love
He has

You are a great human being, doctor! ❤
A great message to remember ❤
Thank You Dr. Dhand for your great advice!!!
Dr Dhand, so many of your videos come at the perfect time for me. This one especially.
Thank you, and I agree with the comment that states you are a true gentleman.
Love this, I think about this a lot, George Michael also said in his song, turned a different corner and we never would have met, certainly true with me and my partner, all the stars were aligned that night 😊
You're absolutely right, Doc. Two things to remember: 1) You have to pay attention. Look for the open door. Expect it. Be mentally, emotionally ready for it. 2) Understand that sometimes a door closes and alluvasudden you're locked in the room and don't see an open door anywhere. You have to be patient.
Lets not leave out our Creator God, He knows us better than we know ourselves. Its a free consultation! 🙏🏾
Amen! Proverbs 16:9 "The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps." James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him."
@@KathyBGood Amen! 🙌🏽

Your such a good soul ❤
Thank you for your honesty💖💖
This is a great message. I recently saw a door close. After a brief period of sadness, I found another door that I hope to open.
Great advice and kudos to you for achieving so much at a young age!
Thank you 🙏🏽 You a truly beautiful human being Dr Dhand 🌸🦋
How can we be so sure that what we "want" is actually the right thing for us... Continue to work hard, strive for excellence in all that you do, but also have the understanding that the thing we thought was right for us may not truly be right for our futures. Instead, keep an open mind and see where life takes you.
Thank you Dr Suneel. This means a lot to me. My daughter is turning 17 and desperately wants to be a Doctor.
I so very much appreciate you. I experienced the sliding door with my career. It is true. Thank you for all you do and your messages and information.
What a beautiful video. So thought-provoking. Also very true. Thank you, Dr. Dhand God Bless you.
Thank very much ❤
I just love that move - watched it decades ago!!!
Love this message!❤
Thank you
The reason students in the US not only are required but should go to university or college before medical school is because most high schools in the US are terrible and students don't want to study or develop the traits of character necessary for learning. I teach at the University level in the US and my students from Eastern Europe, Northern Europe, China, India/Pakistan and even some countries in South America can't believe how easy their classes at the college level are.
Your honesty and integrity shine through in your videos.
My pathology colleagues use some of your videos for their conversation topics. Thank you for your input in lives that you would not even have expected. God bless you.
Thank you, Dr. Dhand. I enjoy your videos and share with my family.
Once again it’s so true life is a challenge and many people are scared, while others uses the challenge and gain successes.👍
I would respectfully point out that there are simply not enough top/well paid jobs available, thus it doesn't matter how hard some people work, how much they train and re-train - if born poor the fact is 99% of them die poor. There are many thousands of graduates sweeping streets/unemployed. 500 or more applicants for each vacancy. The health service maybe has more opportunities and less barriers than generally. It is often not a case of what you know, but who you know and it helps to be born into a wealthy family to overcome the barriers. On this Dr Dhand, we must beg to differ, you present a much more positive story than reality allows.
Thanks again.
So glad I'm still in the control group.
One of my top five movies! I’ve watched it at least half a dozen times. 😊
I believe that quote is from the Old Testament of the Christians, and the major bible or Torah of the Jews. Thank you for this superb video. I was in biology, then was a paralegal, a technician then fell into teaching. Now I retired at a young age and I am writing and attempting to do other creative things as well. One more thing which I could add to your video is that the psychologist Erikson spoke of an era of Stagnation versus Generativity. As soon as I was helping people in an inner city of Philadelphia, I felt better about myself. Thank you again.
All true!
Thank you, keep looking up! ❤
1. In general, it's true that the US requires people to have a bachelor's degree before being eligible to apply for med school. But that's changing. There are some US med schools which accept people straight from high school. Not many, but there are some. I only hope there will be more in the future.
2. Much of the rest of the world's med ed is changing too. Many nations including the UK and Ireland are changing to become more like the US med school educational system such that their applicants must have a bachelor's degree before being eligible to apply to med school. For example, just look at all the med schools in places like the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand that are moving away from "undergraduate" med school to "postgraduate" med school systems where "postgraduate" med schools require a prior undergraduate degree in order to apply.
Yes, 🙏🏻 amen.
Always believe your best days are ahead!
Be responsible and seek self improvement,
Great advice!
Such a wise man!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Thank you, Doctor, so very much!
Gwenyth Paltrow movie. Thoughtful movie.
good point :)
When one door closes I keep the rest shut cause they’re all exactly the same. I built my own door.
God has a plan for each of us. If we trust Him, and follow His plan than things will work out. Nothing is done by luck, only through God's grace can we make it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts today.
Wisdom and Prudence.
