KERATOACANTHOMA I have it and was misdiagnosed until biopsy results of Invasive SCC on my upper front thigh and i believe they are mostly malignant AND have a hair follicle or sweat gland connection due that fact also been diagnosed with Grovers rash on my abdomen . Been struggling with several types of skin cancer issues with inflammation Im 60yr Red head blue eyes freckles female with several blistering sunburns as a child & adult with sun damaged skin. born with hair & other abnormalities So thankful & impressed with by you and your knowledge Dr. Jerad Gardner.
Most of this went over my head, but a few years ago I developed a large crusty lump on my lower left shin, and it was decided it should be removed as it had elements of squamous cell carcinoma. With a thin flap of skin from my upper thigh removed to replace the lost skin after the excision, I was bound up tightly on the leg. It materialised that what I'd had was a keratoacanthoma, benign in other words, but the thinking then was that KA's could become malignant and it would be best to remove it as a precaution. I have a pale salami-coloured patch as a result and still an occasional sharp twinge as veins attach. Fascinating watching this. Robert, uk.
I have a volcano on my shin, not an area that gets much sun. I'm 70 and of Celtic/French ancestry. I did some sunbathing in my early twenties and got a few burns as a kid. I'm covered with all sorts of white, pink, red, beige and brown spots on me...one beside my nose was a basal cell carcinoma. This was a large pimple like structure for several months until it started growing and I knew it was different from the rest. Got a biopsy, not cancer. Since the biopsy it has gotten huge and oh so painful. For two months it felt like needles stabbing me. That part has calmed down but just my clothing rubbing on it causes pain. When I bump it into something or the hose slides over it or my dogs leashes, or them bump into it, I scream and cry for ten minutes. It is so painful. I get it cut off in three weeks. I can't imagine having to wait six months for it to go away. I'm even driving to another town to have the surgery sooner. I've got some good photos of it's progression if you'd like them.
Hello kevin , hope everything went well , may I ask you what did you do ? Because my mum was diagnosed with a KA and maybe a potential SCC . And we don’t know what to do . Best regards
Thank you! I think I’ve had one of these on my ankle for about 6 years now… was never sure what it was till now. I had just decided it was a wart and was about to start some rounds of salicylic acid/duck tape smothering to get rid of it … would that not work for this as well tho? Extreme exfoliation and cutting off the oxygen supply seems like it should kill just about anything in the skin. Could that be an effective treatment for this as well?
I have been diagnosed with this & pirigo nodularis & squamous cell carcinoma. All three ITCH so bad It feels as if they are rooted in my bones or soul...lol.. I used Bloodroot paste in 2014 to get rid of 200 spots on arms & legs... yes I was crazy the burn and pain was intense... it did however rid me of all the spots.. 2021 I am no longer strong enough to handle the intense pain from The Bloodroot paste!
Currently using Olympus BX-51 microscope with attached Nikon camera for glass slide images and videos. This particular video is older and I used a different camera at that point i think it was a mounted canon rebel with a microscope adaptor.
Jerad, I think I have a Keratoacanthomas under my eye' which Iver the mast week has regressed by about 80%. I just had a biopsy taken today but I wonder if the fact that it has regressed means that it could completely heal? And if so do they usually return?
Does this respond to antibiotic cream? I had what looked like a pimple which then started to have puss around it and got a bit bigger and eventually grew into the crater looking thing but it was oozing orange liquid out of it so my doctor thought it was just an infection like impetigo. But then i started on fusidic acid and it seems to have come down but it seems to have stoped in the healing process. Now it looks like it has a type of yellow scab in the middle and then a whitish/red border around it that is slightly raised.
I am waiting for a dermatology appointment for suspected keratoacanthoma on my cheek, its itchy and painful, no one has realky explained what it is and if i will have much of scar when removed, it came up in october 2024 and is now about 3 times as big 😢
You can see apoptosis (also called dyskeratotic keratinocytes) in almost any keratinocytic lesion especially if there is inflammation present. This includes KA, SCC, actinic keratosis, seborrheic keratosis, verruca, lentigo, etc etc

Please see your dermatologist for evaluation so they can determine if a biopsy is needed. No way to know something is a keratoacanthoma without having a biopsy examined microscopically. Just FYI: a true keratoacanthoma usually grows quickly and then goes away over a short time period. Being present for 6 years would be very unusual for keratoacanthoma. Best wishes for health and healing.

What a video! I have many problems regarding keratoacanthoma. Just saying thank you, is not enough. Stay blessed always.🌿😇💚
Most amazing simplified and lucid explanations 👌
Sir I'm trainee. I love ur videos. Please keep posting. I wish you good health.

This was useful, I have a case of potential KA vs SCC waiting to sign out with my staff tomorrow morning :)

Many thanks ...clear and comprehensive ..
I would like to ask about multiple keratoacanthomas in patients with visceral malignancy
thanks so much
How are you producing/showing these micrographs, please?

a great lecture! Thank you a lot prof Gardner!
Thank you Dr Jerad. Very useful video.

Are multiple keratoacanthomatous lesions common in Visceral malignancies
Very informative

I've just had one removed from my nose
Thank you so much.
Hello sir!
Can u plz tel me What does mean lipping of epidermis in keratoacanthona on histopathology?
I don’t use that term personally so not certain. But I assume it refers to epidermis hanging over the edge of the crater full of keratin.
@@JMGardnerMD thankyou for ur response😊
