i had steam deck, played Alot with it loved it. unfortunately you can't play some games in it cause of Linux. Then sold steam deck and bought rog ally, its great that you can play almost all games on rog ally, however my unit have memory card slot issue which stopped working after sometime, i went to Service Centre but they had no idea about this device so i did not give them my device as they said that they will repair it and i got scared about that. so i upgraded my internal SSD to 2tb and its working great. somethings i don't like about ASUS is that in USA you can return a device and they will give you a replacement but here in India you will only have the facility of repairing, secondly ASUS team is not trained for new devices infact they don't even have idea that such kind of device exist, which is scary or concerning to buy such a niche product.

Steam deck is perfect for me. I can easily emulate reto games, thanks to Linux. Plus I prefer linux over Windows because performance is shit in windows. Every non-compitive game is supported in Linux thanks to Proton and Wine. Some compititive games are not supported due to anticheat and I'm obviously not gonna play competitive games in it, my main desktop is for that. I don't want to sweat when gaming while traveling, You can't even properly play compititive games in a controller so no point in that. (I know my way around Linux, I have Linux on my main desktop, I use windows virtual machines for compitive gaming. And the virtual machine runs every game but Valorant because of it's stupid anticheat)

@@TechHeist I think that its already better than the Rog Ally because the Ally is a mess. Lot of hardware and software issues... Beating the Steam Deck is harder because you get good, steady performance with a reliable OS for half the price.

Can we connect steam deck to old laptop to use it as a screen ?
No
Yes you can but you'll need to use a capture card, connect it to the laptop and plug the hdmi to steam deck. Then in the laptop open OBS studio and click add device and select video capture device. To go to full screen right click the screen in OBS and select open in display (monitor name). All done✅ now your laptop will display the steamdeck's screen. Plus don't forget to merge screens in display settings in steamdeck.
