Milky Way - Red Car/Blue Car (original 1989 ad)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- This is the original 40 second version from 1989.
The 2009 re-release was edited as they can't say it "doesn't ruin your appetite" any more, and was cut down to 30 seconds.

This ad should be historically preserved for future generations because it truly is a classic
It has been.... you're watching it 🤦♂️
@@steveespenell unless UA-cam fails.
That's why it's here
I swear they reaired this a few times
@@superplushtiman7ti075 Yeah definitely, it's been the case for a few ads over the years, e.g. Turkish delight, Um Bongo to name a few
With ads like these, a Skip Ad button would never be needed.
💯
Exactly
From a time when UK Advertising WAS creative, engaging, entertaining and enjoyable...and a time when UK chocolate tasted great and weren't so small....
One word. Meerkats.
@@Poliss95 Nuff Said.
@@Poliss95 very true
I dunno mate this ad was pretty special even for the time. Yeah we got some animation for Libby's Moonshine or Chambourcey's Hippopotamousse but nothing was ever on the level of this ad.
Milky way is an american based company, this ad originally aired in America.
This ad just popped into my head so sang it to my kids and had to find the video, now I have to play it over and over! I remember sliding down the stairs in red and blue sleeping bags with my sister while singing the ad! 😂
Same here 😂
Same here re havin to play it over and over for them 😅
Hahahaha sliding down the stairs in red and blue sleeping bags had me HOWLING 😅😅😅
No way thats strange, my brother and I raced down the stairs on plastic sledges haha. I damaged the door to the kitchen at the bottom of the stairs and was scared for my life. I remember it well even though it was 30 years ago now
Smart old blue he took the milky way.
God dam hero if you ask me.
Good advert
Or, a God dam Aero perhaps......;-)
in the original it was smiling blue.
@@cdeath5274 no it wasn't, it was smart old blue. Your comment has been reported for misinformation
Who can never forget this iconic advert 💙
Do you remember the other one called The satellite and the meteor?
@@thefog7067you mean this one?

Nice to see Blue using his indicators there. An example for many other motorists today, I think.
BMW and Audi driver more so :-)
Damn straight
LUNCHVILLE. Welcomes careful drivers
We have a red car and a blue car. Can’t stop singing this advert each time my wife asks what car we are using
Why did this literally just pop into my head after 15 years and I had to do a UA-cam search?😆 My brain is weird
Same
Subliminal message about life for humanity on earth.
We are all trapped in consumption. (Red car) and negative consumption at that.
If we disconnect ourselves from all the distraction and reconnect with nature...
We will be able to win the race.
As you put the universes most advanced shoe ever created... into a shoe.
As you walk on tarmac instead of the earth in which you were made from.
i was totally convinced they edited this ad as a kid, chaned one of the lines...
Yes, it was changed thanks to political correctness 🙄
Fancy seeing u here of all places
Yeah, they re-released this ad years later with the change, I believe
@@Ospyro3em It was the sign at the end is the only change I was aware of. They legally couldn't make the claim anymore due to modern advertising standards.
@@BBC600 they also changed the line "cos he knows it won't spoil his appetite" to "cos he knows that it tastes just right". There's a video here that points out the changes

my husband and his partner write this commercial - still brilliant after all these years - and a lesson in how to make a commercial for a brand
Amazing production values too. Please thank him for our childhood memories!
Please thank him from the bottom of my childhood! I loved this ad as a kid!
I am 41, and remember as a child being part of the market research for this. In Ashton Under Lyne
37 and remember loving this as a small boy! 💖
Are you okay with your husband having a partner? Hope he gets regular checks at the clinic after all that bumming.
This Advert Has Just Popped Into My Head For No Reason
🎶The red car and the blue car had a race.
All red wants to do is stuff his face.
He eats everything he sees, from trucks to prickly trees, but smart ol blue he took the milky way.
He's looking for a chocolate treat, fluffy and light, cause he knows it won't spoil his appetite.
_mm mm mmmm_
Oh no the bridge has gone oh red can't carry on.
But smart ol blue he took the milky way🎶
🤣❤️Great memories ❤️
Crazy to think how the line “the red car and the blue car had a race” had been stored in my mind for over 30 years. Now watching this for the first time since then and it sounds exactly how I remember it! I was born in 87 so must have been pretty young when it aired.
Arguably the most memorably popular advert for all those who were kids in the early '90s.
This brings back nostagia.
tried to but can't computer is down on mobile.
Oh yes please bring back nostalgia please please
@@joannamorris990 Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.
I loved this ad when I was a little kid.
I hate how small the bars are but I still love milky way!
Your hands are bigger
did we grow or did they shrink?
Oh crap I remember seeing this on tv years ago. Talk about a nostalgia shot lol
I used to watch this over and over when I was a kid
“How many times have you watched this”
Me: “yes”
One of the best adverts ever
Compared to stuffing your face with everything until dinner, having a Milky Way as a snack between meals would not ruin your appetite.
Jeez, can't have any fun anymore. At least this fun creative ad can live uncensored in my heart =3.
I woke up with this song in my head this morning. God alone knows why. 😳😳😳
Because great ads stay with you forever!
😆😆 loved that advert as a kid! I always used to trick my brother into choosing the red car and he would go mad hahaha
😂😂
I loved this advert as a kid back when it first aired. This was before they changed the recipe in the UK of Milky Ways to the white and creamy whipped filling version that is still in production today.
I remember in 2000 when I met my cousins in India for the first time in 11 years, one of them requested us to bring her some chocs from the UK. I had no idea that I would get on so well with her since we hardly ever saw each other in our lives but anyway we brought her many assorted chocs but also some limited edition Strawberry-flavoured Milky Ways. She absolutely loved those Milky Ways ultimately telling me that they tasted just like Strawberry Milkshake and that she never tried anything like it.
I doubt very much people in the future will be watching any one these ads I had to watch before the ad I actually wanted to watch.
For some reason when I was young this advert scared the living hell out of me and I still don’t remember why nowadays
Me too with the 2009 version but now I love it
Much better and made more sense then alot of adverts these days !!!
I've no idea why I thought about this advert?🤔 This advert just came to My mind🤯🧠. Still I'm staying in My blue solitary lane🛣️🚙.
Oh my gosh this is legitimately amazing. Old adverts have such wonderful jingles and songs! What's happened? I'm in my 30's and I actually prefer this, even though it was before my time.
apparently this advert came back on in 2009 but I think I missed it. I love this ad its so catchy to sing and I find myself humming the tune all the time. I wanted the red car to win though but you can't have everything. the red car and the blue car had a race!
Yer it did come back in 2009
Yup, I'm only 14 and I remember this ad airing on telly then. Around that time a few companies were re-releasing old adverts
I remember the 2009 version fairly well.
I remember this and i’m an 06 baby
Do have some vague memories of the 2009 version but I have no idea what channel it was on
In the US this is known as a 3 Musketeers bar, and it’s a bit more fattening - but it still doesn’t ruin my appetite!
Wow, didn't know Doc Hudson acted for UK adverts back then 😮
rip my bro doc 😢⚰️ gbnf
I've just shown this to my boy. He liked it. Kept him quiet for 40 seconds. Classic.
He's still watching it.
You should of shown him the re-released version (I actually remember it well).
That is real fascinating, animated living cars racing, eating everything in sight. Even a lorry!
One of those adverts that stays with you, both the song and the visuals. So successful that no one seemed bothered by the fact carnivorous cars were on the prowl; we didn't mind as long as the nicer chocolate-eating one we were rooting for came in first place! 🤣
Damn they kept this ad on air for a long time, i remember seeing it all the time as a little kid around 2004ish. What a nostalgia blast.
When I was a kid back in the 80s I totally loved watching this advert
When life was better.
Out of the blue I just started singing this today, I couldn't remember what it was for, I did think it maybe chocolate.
Who's here in 2019? 🍫🍫🍫
Just thought of this advert recently, so I'm here.
I come here whenever there’s an election
Milky Way... For when you are high enough to think this would be a good ad.
looks like this could be a kids nursery rhyme
This commercial is awesome, as someone who likes both cars and sweets

Takes me back to the days when we knew all the words for adverts, one of my favourite to date 🤣
Wow my childhood here. Now my 3 yr old loves this ad I have to replay lol
The red and blue cars remind me of Doc Hudson and Lightning Mcqueen from cars even though that this ad was made along before the film was made as this Ad was first shown in 1989
Ben Scrimgeour this also reminds me of roary and tin top from roary the racing car
Oh yeah Cos the blue car looks like doc
Haven't had these milkyway bars in a while!
The animation on this advert is amazing by the way!
This should be brought back those who agree say i

It did, but they removed the blue car eating clip.
Absolutely love the sheer cajones it took to make a commercial about the car who ate candy bars and therefore didn't get fat
😂😂😂 very good point
And fell off a Cliff hahaha class
The reason why the blue car won the race was because the color of the Milky Way wrapper was blue.
This has to be one of the best, if not the best, Mars adverts...😃👍🏻
Red Car: Aggresive and greedy
Blue Car: Just happy and moderate
Call me a milky bar the way I spit milky bars ♫
When this ad was first on TV and I was a kid, I impulse-bought 2 toy truck-cab units (minus the trailers) at a weekend car-boot sale, a red one and a blue one, then had fun coasting them down a small gradient in a playground just outside the sale. The red one overturned and smashed to bits, but I think I've still got the blue one somewhere at home....
Coincidence.....?
Old red can't carry on!
But smart old blue, he took the Milky Way.
God-damn my wife... We saw a red car and a blue car the other day, belting up a dual-carriageway... She sang the first line as she got out of the car... Bleeding tune is stuck... Which brought me here... Thanks for posting (Not really... Still stuck!!!) LOLOLOL
I love this advert so much
Great advert from an amazing era ❤️
This was on in England SO FUCKING OFTEN. I still know the words and I'm now 39.
I remember this when I was younger
It's a classic commercial that has been shown many years after it started in 1989
man what a tune brings me back to the 80s
My dad showed me this when I was in year 2 and I was was traumatised idk why 😃
This song has been going round my brain since childhood...
Woke up with this as an earworm. Hence confirming the lyrics after 35 years 😂
This lives rent free in my head.
me and my dad have been singing this just the first 2 lines to each other since i was 4 years old. adverts in the uk used to be so much better. all the jingles were catchy even if you didn't know what the product was at all cus pensions and life insurance mean nothing when you're 4
I was 5 when this ad first came out...and I still remember every word of the song!
I think the 2009 remake was quite rushed because it was 30 seconds but this one feels more easier to listen to because in the new version a sentence finishes and a new one begins, but in this one there are breaks between the sentences
The greatest advert of all time!
Brilliant advert, such a classic!!! 😍👍👍
I saw this on tv when I was a child. That must have been late 2000s, early 2010s. I had no idea it was from the 80s.
@@Sundjer_Bob_Kockalone but the 2009 version was butchered due to political correctness
If you saw this ad first time round, I guarantee you know the words after all these years!!
The blue car has hit the like button, that smart old blue who took the Milky-Way!
I'm 45, my kid just gave me my fist milky way for years and I sang it all, knew all the words and the tune 😎
The song was sung by Bob Saker. The original was released as a single in 1991 on the back of this... I still have it on tape. :)
Here in 2024 because my kid asked what that weird song i was singing when i saw a milky way bar. Adverts were better and everything was better than the drivel the kids watch. But im being nostalgic😂
I’d love to put back time to when this advert was out
Great advert :) loved it since they re-released it in 2009

Oh no! The bridge is gone! Oh, red can’t carry on.

For the longest time, I thought this was an American commercial. Now my mind is blown that this was a UK commercial the whole time. Really, I am.
God, now I really want one.
Wish i could have it as a ring tone!
