- Flying my wife for dinner at cedar key (Florida's shortest runway!). Making time building fun (as well as making the wife very happy)! Flying from winter haven to cedar key florida for a lunch date in our 1946 ercoupe. If you'd like to follow along my journey time building to ATP minimums subscribe!

Back in the 80’s we would do a low pass over the restaurant and they would have a ride sent out to the tarmac to take us to the restaurant. Cedar Key was less known back then. Fun video.
Enjoyed the video! You two make a great young couple! And finally, an aviation video where they actually land on the centerline, where the pro’s live. ;-). Great job!
Nice video. The next time that you visit Cedar Key, go visit the graveyard. You get an interesting history of the island from it!! My wife and I love the island; we have been flying in there since the late 80's. You can also ctch the taxi after you land; she usually monitors CTAF.
When I was about 10 years old the Ercoupe was one of my favorite airplanes (of course). I'm not quite 100 years old now & not sure how I might have rationalized this plane with the P-38, B-25, or the century fighters of the day... now, maybe with another 100 hp and some new glass on the panel... (maybe) she could still be a sweetheart. If I see one of these on the ramp, which is probably unlikely - even for this airport bum - I'm gonna have to check out that sunroof(?) & wow, I don't remember fabric wings. I hope your ATP aspirations are achieved. Y'all are so young and skinny! & beautiful! Maybe that & a helping headwind would explain the high performance climbout after lunch. very cool, thanks for sharing, enjoy

Great video and plane. I owned a 1946 N2569H and loved it. Sold it when I flew professionally for a career. Retired 10 years ago and now wish I had kept it. I’m in Mass and visit a friend in Winter Haven often. I’ll definitely drive by that airport next time I’m down there. Take care of that classic, beautiful flight.

“Shortest Runway in FL?” - you should try it in a Mooney 20K👨✈️. We were based at Herlong KHEG - fun lunch destination. When I first flew there around 2002 a lady with a Checker cab would call you on UNICOM and ask if you need ride into town. BTW - suggest a standard pattern entry vs straight-in; much safer, especially if the fan quits.
Moved to CK 37 years ago and instantly knew I wanted to spend my life there. Side note: She is beautiful

Very controlled landing. Centerline and all! Every time I go to 83 west, Ive been sat at the same table. The table y’all were at. It has a great view.

Thanks for the video. Great job. We have several Ercoupes in East TN. Mine is serial number 4290, C Model with fabric wings. Next year's national convention will be just west of Nashville in Dickson, TN. Come on up. That should add some significant time. Best of luck and blessings.

My friends grew clams there back in 1998. We flew a Cessna 172 there from Sebastian FL. Nice place.

First time I have seen room between 2 people in a coupe. We had a c model and now have a 1966 alon that has the rudder pedals, gives your feet something to do

Used to fly here with friends for the day. Good food choices. Buz town and old lady in a 9 passenger station wagon would pick you up and take you wherever you wanted to go. Give her time and place to pick you up and she would take you back to airport. My 210 was fine with the runway length

I used to do that back in the early 80s. No CTAF so you just buz the town and the taxi would come get you most of the time.
Thanks guys, that was great. I love Ercoups. That restaurant used to have the best oyster stew on this coast. What airport did you fly out of? I live in Safety Harbor, you should fly into Clearwater Executive Airport some time and give us a visit.

Great video! Love Cedar Key. We took a twin engine in with 3 people a number of years ago. That was when the locals would see arriving aircraft and give you a ride into town. Thanks for posting.

You only use a suction mount for your wing camera? Nice trip, and landings. 👍
Wing and tail have suction mounts.
@@risingsun_ And you aren't concerned about them flying off at speed? I've wanted to do a wing mount but i figured I'd need to drill...Not excited about that. I've always had a warm spot for the Ercoupe. ❤
@@dh-flies drilling into a fabric wing doesn’t work too well haha. Not concerned as they are a type that is designed to withstand a lot. Tons of people do it. I could hang off of the suction mount without it coming off. I reapply the suction mount after each landing as well
I've seen it. It is short. I could probably fly control line there.
Hello fellow Ercoupe owner. Those look like fabric covered wings, are you just using the suction cup to keep the wing camera attached?
And what are you using to attached the camera to the rudder?

Ok, fun video, but lets have more info on your airplane performance, like IAS, altitude, rpm, fuel flows if you have them. Ercoupes aren't screamers, but still fun to know how it performs
I have a Mogas STC for my engine. I can still my non-ethanol gas in town, so I take fuel to my plane too. It is about $3 per gallon cheaper in town. Flying is more enjoyable when I don't feel like I gouged on the deal.
Av gas is pretty cheap in Florida but I’m saving 1.50 a gallon so that equates to 25 bucks cheaper per tank. I also add a lead substitute additive.
About 5.80 here in Oregon. I too get the no lead stuff from local station 5 gallons at a time. Hey that’s over an hour ! But I’ve learned to burn a little 100LL mixed in occasionally. At first I was using 100 LL in my 85 but after two new cylinders I woke up.

@@risingsun_ X61 just northwest of Orlando. I am down there in Winter Haven pretty often. You fly right over my best friends house for runway 05. I also get to X39 quite a bit.

I got Cedar Key mixed up with a another short runway in the Fl. Keys. I have never been to Cedar Key. Sorry

Cedar key strip is very short, but you had plenty of room. You should have tried Tony's restaurant on 2nd st. they have they best clam chowder in the world !

Nice landing at Cedar Key. Good short field technique. One suggestion, if you are working toward a career as pilot, go sterile cockpit ALL THE TIME below 1000' AGL. Focus all on the flight, wife will be suitably impressed.
This used to be called the $100 hamburger. This was back when planes were $50 an hour more or less.

Ooh! In an "Urp-Cup"! No rudder pedals, as I recall. That's why the comment about keeping feet off the brake pedal because its not a rudder pedal.
Oh well... they made it and did a fine landing!
Shortest runway? I know of a few more shorter than that. And... WHY would it have a displaced threshold? There's nothing short of the runway that needs to keep the landing planes any higher than what you flew for that approach. What are they worried, someone's gonna hit a boat floating by?

I have time in H415C it was fun to fly and had a whistle stop running radio for the com the VHT 3 supper homer. That was in the early 70’s You had to remember to open the fuel valve under the panel.😁🛫

I remember the Checker cab! I think the driver's name was Judy. I was a student pilot in 2004 - 05 flying my second solo cross country in a Cessna 152 N65401. She drove me to a restaurant called "The Seabreeze". Hopefully, I'll get to make that flight again someday!
