DIY Fairy Cottage House using natural materials

- Hey, I started to create fairy houses and thought of documenting my progress on UA-cam. Hoping of getting some inputs from the community. In this video I show you how to make a fairy cottage house using natural materials. Most of them I collect myself in the woods. I'm using balsa wood, small branches, craft sticks, mod podge, wood glue and moss. You can achieve such a nice natural look with branches that you find outside, it's awesome!
I start by cutting the balsa wood in the needed shapes. I endet up with 6 main pieces, 3 for the sites of the house and 3 for the roof. I decorated the 3 site pieces with some branches and added a door (made of craft sticks) and 2 windows. I guess the "tree window" turned out to be my Favorit.
When I was done decorating them, I glued all the site-pieces together and added the roof. As soon as they were together the structure was surprisingly stable and very light. Then I continued to add 4 posts to the overhanging roof, to give it more stability and a more realistic look.
The third main step was to add the balcony to the roof. Which I mad as well out of balsa wood, craft sticks & branches. As soon as I had it all together I attached it to the roof.
Then I added some more branches all around the roof to give the cottage a natural & realistic look. Done with that I added the moss on to the roof, I did that with wood glue. But first I put a layer of mod podge to protect the balsa wood from the humidity. That's pretty much it! I hope you like the result.
Materials:
balsa wood, wooden craft sticks, small branches, mod podge, wood glue and moss.
Tools:
box cutter or precision knife, secateurs, ruler, paint brush and glue.

Thank you so much 😀
I love your work, this fairy house is so beautiful and quaint! I especially LOVE the adorable lopsided window (second site) with the natural branches! So creative!
Thank you so much for sharing your process!
I would love to make something similar myself. What thickness of balsa wood did you use? And any particular kind of craft knife?
Thank you!
thank you so much. I used balsa wood from Michael, guess should be 1/16" thickness. I think for balsa you want to have a precision knife for the small stuff and a utility knife for the bigger once. Good luck!
You make my day bro❤ Thanks
Awesome. ❤ Love it!!!
Well done! fairy nice!
beautiful!! 👏👏
Love Your Work, I too use to Build fairy House's, this inspirers me to get back into the craft, WITH so much going on in our world, We need something to take us away from time to time, and THIS CHANNEL has done it for me!! I SUBBED! THANK YOU!

I love it awesome work
Thank you! 😊
This is very beautiful and imaginative! I can only imagine the feeling a hiker must get when they are walking through the woods and come across something like this; especially if they are young or young at heart!
I've seen a few other Fairy Cottage videos on this channel, and one thing that I've wondered is how you protect your models from the elements long term? Alternately, do you don't take any protective measures, and just let nature 'reclaim' your model over time? In either case, how long do your projects last in the outdoors?
Again, great work!
Thank you very much for the comment & question. I do not let them in the forest, since I don’t want to leave any footprints in the nature. Specially because there is glue in there. Although I let them outside in the backyard to see if they survive the winter in canada. Let’s see. So far they do pretty well.
@@maryinthefairyland895 That's fair enough. I hope for the best with the models in your yard.
do you know what size balsa wood you used? I have tones of different sizes, I just wanted to know what the thickness was that you used for the walls. don't worry if not.☺ I also wanted to tell you about something cool you can do with the windows! you can get little resin kits with different colour dyes, if you put the window frame on some baking paper, you can pour the resin into the frame and let it dry, after its dry you can peel it of the paper and you have an awesome window! its great for making tinny stained glass windows and it would look great with the sun coming through!
I used balsa wood from Michaels, guess it was 1/16. thanks for the idea for the window, I may going to try it someday.
What did you use for the window glass?
That’s a plastic sheet that I got from a packaging of a toy.
Would it be possible to give measurements for the first part please
