Pate and mayo are a must. The white stuff is pickled daikon along with the pickled carrots. I rarely get cucumber in banh mi so it's not as needed compared to the other ingredients so you can take it out and it would still be good.
I gotta say ,a good bahn mi at roughly 9 to 10 bucks is bloody magnificent, l,m from Melbourne and I've tracked down a few ripper bahn mi,s . I love it. So wherever you are in Australia, track the down your local and enjoy. If your in Melbourne try bun bun in Springvale, always a line to buy one, but worth the wait ,pork roll with crackel and standard salads, up there with the best at $9. Thanks for the review grego

Letting you know Greg, $7.50 for a Banh Mi is a total ripoff. Think about it. A bread roll: 50c? A bit of meat? $1? Salad? 50c? They charge like this because outside of Vietnamese communities people think it's hip, cool, "healthy". There is no way a Vietnamese person is paying that amount of money for a Banh Mi. In the Viet community in Sydney, they are about $4.50, $5 max. DOnt get me started on how much they cost in Vietnam. PS... for anyone wondering how I come to these conclusions, my wife is Vietnamese, and we travel to and from Vietnam often. Love your work Greg.

U were very kind with that review Grego, normally with hardly any meat and an annoyingly thick chunk of cucumber U would have ripped the u know what out of who made it
i could be wrong but the chinese bbq pork looks old, and they were cheap and tried to neglect the meat and used more veges, but i guess you won't care due to the pickle carrot because thats the secret of those vietnamese buns i.e its sweet and sour

The white vegetable is pickled daikon, and the savoury soy like flavour is probably Maggi seasoning , which is widely used and contains msg.

Definetly agree with the cucumber issue. It sort of overwhelms all the other flavorsl. Making it thinner would be better. Good video.

Greg! you really have to go to Bake N Grill in Westfield Upper Coomera, it is THE best Banh Mi on the coast,
I pay $6 for mine and they have all that plus three types of pork - Awesome!

I loved a Banh Mi from the carts in Vietnam, especially Hanoi. It's more of an afternoon snack than a full meal.
G'day, One day i'll hunt down a Banh Mi and try it.

Best flavour is roast pork combo with one of the chicken flavours
With crispy pork skin
