I'd prefer Wemby to patrol the paint on defense and not so much on the perimeter. I'm not sure if they have given him the green light to do so because he is not as active as he can be some games. Once he figures out the NBA game it will make the Spurs a difficult team to score on. Then they will come up with a stat for the "Wemby Effect"

Yup! Everybody saying chet is better but he does not have this impact on the game. The whole team has to change strategy because they just don't shoot it in the paint when he's there. Chet will never have that impact, even though he is really tall. Chet is only a little more polisehd on the offensive end but light years behind on the defensive from Wemby. Wemby is a natural defender

5:58 Due to the fact that Popovich is not organizing anything for him, Wemby gets more tired because he wastes his energy trying to get everything done. You can see that his efforts are exaggerated. Add the fact that the NBA game is longer than the FIBA game, he also has to adjust to this. That's why sometimes he decides not to follow the play on the defensive side. I believe that when Popovich decides that "observation mode" is over, Wemby must improve in everything, and above all, in managing his energy.

Update. Since moving to center most of what you are speaking about has been corrected. Rebounds and blocks have all gone including defensive ratings. Also some of the other things you mention will come with experience and time. Video is so old. Did not see him stay in front of Ja trying to be fast his lateral quickness is unworldly for his size even when he messes up and miss steps his recovery is unmatched. But yes, him guarding the elite 1 and 2 in the league is not the best matchup would rather have them drive to him. It’s crazy enough that he can do it. Also, him falling for the pump has improved and he has very few fouls

6:31 I don't think it is his fault on this kind of play. I'm pretty sure he is asked to run the floor because he is hard to stop once launched at full speed. You can see that even in pre-season. Also on this play his teammate are doing a very bad job at boxing out

The other players in the league need some time to adjust to the length and reach of Wemby. In their physical memory they still have the image of the average NBA defensive player. So, the other players will get used to him and find other ways to score. Likewise, Wemby will adjust to playing in the NBA and work on his capacities managing both sides of the floor. It will become very interesting. But, he's not the only tall one. We still have Bol Bol and Chet Holmgren that will also make adjustments as athletic tall players due to the 'Wemby Effect'.
