  • In today’s episode, Lawfare Senior Editor Alan Z. Rozenshtein speaks with his University of Minnesota Law colleague, Nick Bednar, about the wave of Day 1 executive orders affecting the civil service. Bednar recently analyzed these orders in a piece for Lawfare. They discuss what the orders say, how they might be challenged in court, and what this means for the next four years and beyond.

Thanks for drilling into this for us. Every other source seems to gloss it.

Nick's observations about the "unitary president" construct bridging many of what otherwise seem to be scattershot Trump actions is a very nourishing food for thought. Thank you.

Great discussion. It would be lovely if y’all could tell your guest before he appears next time to cool it with the eleventy billion right’s and ok’s. Had my skin crawling, although he was otherwise excellent at explaining things.

Surprising that the freezing of federal grants and loan programs didn't make the short list.

They're only talking about the orders from Day 1. Lord knows how long this video would be if they covered subsequent days... 🙄

You two need to stop saying 'right?' after your statements. It's super annoying, right? To the point that I quit listening, right?
