    My all time favorite, the one and only Access Virus TI2 in this whiteout limited edition.
    A few notes about the story and a quick rough track in the video.
    I'm using it with Midi cables through Arturia Keystep because, what a shame, Access stopped upgrading the Total Integration plugin for Mac users, which was very useful especially for quickly editing and saving the patches.
    The track is called Pure Blue Sky • Luca Francini - Pure B...
    and it will be soon available on all streaming platforms

    I got so tired of people talking about the Virus. I hesitated so much on purchasing a VA synthesizer that is over 10 years old. Got my Darkstar Ti2 two months ago and I'm still in awe in its capabilities. There's so much more a Virus can do that's on UA-cam. My personal favorites are these epic, gritty, fat bass sounds that resonate forever.

    Thanks for this video! Quick Questions:
    1. How is the midi implementation of the Virus with your daw? Is it steady or are there latency issues.
    2. I’m considering investing money into purchasing a Virus but I’m concerned that it won’t be very well implemented in my Ableton set up. Do you think that purchasing a Virus Ti2 is a sound investment in 2021 with all of the VSTs that are out now?

    • @lucafrancinimusic
      @lucafrancinimusic  3 роки тому

      Hey, the midi works nicely like any other midi synth I have. There is some ms of latency but nothing you can't fix by adjusting the delay of the track by ear (in Cubase you can dial in the milliseconds plus or minus of every track) and once you have recorded the track you can always move the region until the waveform start is perfectly lined up with the beat. I don't know how Ableton works but I suppose it works fine with midi synthesizers. As sound engine I think it's still relevant in 2021 because it sounds just good and it's flexible with all its wavetables and modulation capabilities, but you can save a lot of money and get a Dune3 and/or Serum which have the same audio quality. What you buy with the Virus, IMO, is also a piece of electronic music history that you will be still able to play in the next decades (since it has midi and audio outputs).

    The virus with its distinctive filter sounds and numerous wavetable oscillators is what makes it stand out when compared to traditional synthsizers...
    How about opting for a Access virus ti snow as it's the most cheap in the line up and has the same sound engine as the other viruses...

  • @SeanHyland

    I was actually thinking about canceling my Ti2 order but not anymore after watching this video! I still would like to tone shape this synth. Do you feel the built-in EQ is adequate? I'm thinking about getting an EQ pedal.

    • @lucafrancinimusic
      @lucafrancinimusic  2 роки тому

      Glad this video helped making the right decision :D I usually skip onboard eqs/processing and go with external eq or reverb to shape the sound according to the mix. I think the internal eq is good for broad tonal shaping.

    Tip: use the access virus pluging/editor from "mystery islands music". It's a breeze to program the virus with this. Me myself have a snow, and controlling it with this Plugin is much more easier. You can use the MIDI IN/OUT or.... USB :D. (that's what I use). Luca, beautiful track! I have recently started looking into getting a virus. Have you tried any if the previous iterations, like the virus C? • @lucafrancinimusic
      @lucafrancinimusic  2 роки тому

      Hey, I had the Virus B desktop for a couple of years, then I sold it to get the TI2. My advice is go for the TI2. The sound is the same, but the pre TI Virus had a digital to analog internal convertion and then the signal entered the audio interface, so there was some coloration of the sound. With the TI series you can send the original digital signal via USB or SPDIF straight to DAW so what you hear is the actual Virus sound. Don't forget that if you are on Mac, after Mojave the Virus Control doesn't work (I'm using it as a simple Midi synth).

    • @jokchung
      @jokchung 2 роки тому

      @@lucafrancinimusic Thanks Luca, lots of talk on forums comparing the TI series and previous generations. Maybe I will wait for the next iteration of the virus - haha. • @jokchung
      @jokchung 2 роки тому

      @@lucafrancinimusic luca, one more question. The TI on some youtube videos (excluding your vids) appears flat sounding. Almost like there’s a global effect or reverb that dampens the sound. Is it possible to make sounds more dynamic, punchy and somewhat analogish through tweaking?
      To put it in a nutshell, I want a synth that can help me sound like Above and Beyond, Ilan Bluestone…. A ‘tronce’ synth 👻👻

    • @lucafrancinimusic
      @lucafrancinimusic  2 роки тому

      @@jokchung I think the Virus is a very deep synth, meaning that there are some many parameters and wavetables, routing possibilities etc that is very much capable of doing anything and the real bottleneck is the end user :D Just compare the soundsets available online: some sound incredible, other sound dull and it's still the same synth! Also, in a top chart production, whatever instrument was used, there is always a great work of production and sound treatment, you don't just set a patch and call it a day, you gotta make sure it fits with the arrangement, you carve space in the mix, use additional effects and processing and so on. A good starting sound is the first important step and the Virus delivers it, then there is much more to do.

      In theory you can have 16 parts at the same time, each of them with its midi track. In practice you'll run out of power very quickly if you start using fx and complex patches. I prefer working on a patch and once I'm happy with it I save it and print the wav in the project and then start with a second patch.
