Ha Ha I bet your children get very vexed LOL ....... But that is what grandparents are for isn't it ? He He heeeee thanks a million for watching and commenting, regards Steve.
What a fantastic show today. I'm really liking these musical instruments you are making. I remember back in the day when whistles were made out of wood. Instruments we played in school were all wood too! I'm sure any child would love to have such a gift!
Thanks Steve, what a great project. I made the basic mono-tone whistles for all the grandchildren a couple of years ago and this is an excellent upgrade. I also like your idea of making a "recorder" type whistle.
Hey Bill !! Ha Ha that's the trouble with these "simple" projects, unfortunately you get plenty of orders for them from family and friends !! LOL Thanks for watching and commenting !!
Totally dug it dude!! The beach boys used that style of whistle in a few of their recordings. That was back when they were doing the psychedelic sounds for pet sounds and the smile album.
Thanks Eloy !! Yeah they were used a lot back in the day when acid ad flowers were the bomb !! OR should that be bong ?? LOL .... Thanks for watching and commenting bud, regards Steve.
That's an interesting and fun project. I think I'd turn the mouthpiece at the tailstock end. As for the slider, have you tried to turn it a bit undersize and then add a layer of felt or other material for a seal? I'd imaging that 1/2 - 1 inch should be enough. Or maybe use an O-ring?
Hey Bob !! Thanks buddy, I did turn the slider slightly smaller yes, and the tape seems to work OK, I wonder would a rubber O ring get stuck against the wood and stop it sliding freely ? Maybe another experiment is needed LOL ..... Thank you for watching and commenting, regards Steve.
Hi CW ..... Yep that might work, but rubber on wood tends to be a little sticky and may not slide to easy? Worth a try though, Thanks a million for watching and commenting. Regards Steve.
Hi Steve. Great project, I can see why the kids would love this one. Only issue I see is that you only use a food safe finish on the mouth piece, kids are possibly going to stick almost any part of it in their mouths, especially the younger ones. On the video format, I like it with the voice over. In fact my latest 2 videos I've recorded are in that format, just they won't be on the channel until next month. Might be worthwhile having some very quiet background music, helps cover over any silence. Then again some will always say no to all music. You can't please us all. I pretty well know your setup from watching several live shows. However a new viewer may think that the video quality on the overhead camera is really poor, especially as when you stand in front of the camera it's more like HD and the overhead is like watching a video from 10 years ago. Just my opinions for you to mull over and forget, lol. Well done!
Erm ........NO !!!! LOL making the bloody whistle and listening to the kids make noise with it is bad enough met !! He He Heeeee Thanks for watching Mike, Steve.
You have inspired me. What a fun project. I wonder if my children will become annoyed at their children? Really looking forward to this. Thank you!

Cheers mate, Bram
Hi Bram !! Ha Ha yeah true that mate !! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you are keeping well ? Cheers .Steve.
Nice job on the whistle, Steve. Good description of the details for each step, too. You might consider a small ring gasket in a groove on the slider.
Cool whistle, Steve! I think each of my grandchildren need one :~)

Nice job, I been thinking of a way to do the same thing. Maybe instead of tape, cut a small V-grove and place a rubber O-ring on it?
