Lately I've found that i work on one long grindy game that isn't heavy on story while at the same time working on a few smaller shorter games in quick succession in the meantime.
Backlog is disease that we won't admit. Especially for games nowadays that mostly live service (mmo). But i found a way to tackle at them. 1. If you play MMO (Rpg/ shooter/ any action), just cleared the Limited event/ Seasonal Pass. Those are more precious and if you good at the game, won't take too long. As you are on the run to clear the game, ignore the main quest and start do number 2. 2. If you accidentally subscribe to PS now, PS+, EA play etc and don't want to continue, focus on the game you wish to clear. Most subscribtion last for at least a month. Do what u can. Better purchase your favorite game directly rather than hold on to subs service. 3. Finish the digital game first, they are difficult to install because you need internet and can't play right away. They took a lot of storage space too. 4. As you are eager to finish the game rather than enjoy them, just don't be shy to use walkthrough. Completing the game 100% is more satisfying than blind play for days for just 1 game. Most walkthrough/ guide try the best they can to avoid spoilers.
Great topic Josh something we all struggle with. I have set rules with myself. I only have max 4 games playing at once, 1 or 2 have to be backlog catchup games. 1 can be for new easy quicker plats and 1 for the bigger AAA game. Don't break that rotation unless there's exception for a game you have preordered that your super keen on. If your playing too many at once you won't ever get into and enjoy them. Hit saturation point etc..
I’m not in a rush to complete my backlog. I collect games so my backlog is going to continue to grow so I’ll just take my time. The only problem I’m having is deciding what games I want to play first lol
Watching from Senegal in West Africa. I guess one thing you can do to overcome it is to start with games you can finish quickly first. Also maybe consider starting all of them and stick with the one that appeals you the most nowadays because your attraction to games will shift crazily depending to your mood and other stuff)
Still over 5000+ backlog games across platforms, I stopped myself from buying more games last year. I am really enjoying the backlog diving nowadays tho.
I was on fire in 2020 during the first lockdown, I finished RDR2, The Witcher 3, God of War (2018) FFVII Remake, FFXV, Horizon Zero Dawn and some other less notable games and thought I was making real progress.. However then January 2021 rocked up and I started Persona 5 Royal and now 4 months later I'm still only 47ish hours in and from what I'm told not even half way through it. Add to that I've bought more games since and still haven't even managed to get a next generation console yet 😐
The only way i’ve found is only buy games that I will play today. Sales get you to buy games you “might” play. If i’ve bought a game and haven’t played it in a year then it’s never going to happen.
Stopped playing call of duty and battlefield or any multiplayer. Because it made me realise that multiplayer games makes your backlog even bigger. I get 2 or 3 hours in a day to game but if I spend all that 2 or 3 hours if I spent that on multiplayer then I can't play games like red dead or bloodborne. Because those games take long grind. I realised that when I played dmc5 I took me 1 week to finish the game because I would play 2 hours a day and by the end of the week I finished the game. And then bloodborne took me 3 weeks I was happy that I completed 2 games in a span of 5 weeks.
Dude I finished my like 40 game backlog in the last year, the only thing I have left is firewall which I’m working on during the weekends, my trophy completion rate is like 99% I’m quite proud

Anyways point is, I found that making a list really helped with my backlog. Now doesn't help I get anywhere from 40-60 games a year lol but at least I'm making some head way.
My problem isn’t so much a backlog I’m playing, since I drop most games at some point, but a backlog of games I wanna buy lol. I need to teach myself how to not look at other games until I have nothing to play.

When I have an hour or less, I’ll play the short game.As u knock out the short games (10-15 hours or less) one after the other, by the time you’re done with the long game, you’ll have 5 or more of the short ones done. I’ve got backlogs for every generation of consoles I own going all the way back to the 8 bit days. At this point in my life I’ve come to terms with my backlog and content with the fact I’ll never be able to finish everything I own. The way I handle it now is I know longer think of my collection as a “collection” but more as a library, and just like a book library, you’ll never be able to read every single book in it. At least I know I’ve got a game for every occasion or whatever mood I’m in.
Yes, my backlog is too big as well. I think it's important to be realistic and only buy the games you know you will play. It helps to have a list of games you want to play each month and splitting them into length or genre is also a good idea. I'm really trying to only play one game at a time and to not buy as many games with the hope my backlog can be more manageable. Are you bringing back your livestream series? Great video mate! :)
Chip, chip, chip away. Slowly overtime - I started trying to maintain an 80% account completion rate, then 85% which I'm close to, then I'll aim for 90%, and if I manage to get 95%, then I'll aim to 100% everything.
I just made that nightmare all too real, signing up for Game Pass Ultimate after recently getting a Series X. I’ve had to clamp down on not being tempted when games go on sale for big discounts because that just increases my backlog which is already ugly between PS4, PS5 & Xbox. At least I don’t have to worry about PC games as I cut that out of my life years ago and decided to stick strictly with consoles for a number of reasons.
I don't care about my backlog, I'll get to it whenever. Most games I really enjoy I finish in a timely manner unless they are really long. Most games in my backlog are games I'm interested in but not exactly impressed by.
Habits that have helped me with backlog and saving $. 1) trade with friends (borrow one give one) and repeat 2) make an actual list in order playing it 3) make list of games to buy/ borrow 4) don’t buy or borrow anything new until you beat something or it’s on deep discount (never pay more than $20-30 a game) 5) mix up genres as stated in the video 6) play only game until you are done that one game 7) try to mix up game lengths (long game then short game before another long game)
i am at peace with my backlog , i am mostly happy just knowing i have those games, and to be frank, most my backlog are games i got on huge discounts or through bundles, so i cam cool with it.
I bought the Far Cry 4/Far Cry Primal bundle because I wanted Far Cry Primal and they came together. Never touched Far Cry 4, but I enjoyed dozens of hours of Far Cry Primal
I get over my backlog by banning myself from buying a new game before I finish five owned games. Takes some self discipline obviously. I got on top of mine this way in 2019 and again last year.
For some reason I can 100% relate to this feeling. I feel like there is too many games coming out and I cannot keep up with it all. What does help me cope with it is if it's a mulitplayer game and it's third party game. I will play it on PC but if it's an exclusive game than I will play it on my PS4. I write down all of my games in my collection and ask myself "have I played through this game". That can be mean I've either completed the game from start to finish and believed that I don't want to go through all of the trophies. Or it can mean that I've 100% completed everything in the game and i've done everything that was possible. Most importantly, not every game isn't going work with you. Also, i have a buy list but I don't buy a new game until I finished at least one.
It's one of my guilty pleasures to buy games... although i don't have the time to play them all. It's good to know i just have them. I don't care some of them i will probably never even start, I'm feeling good to buy games. I'm too old to change
For me the way I deal with and prevent a huge backlog is a few things: 1. I don’t buy a game unless I know I actually want to play it. If I’m interested or curious but unsure I wait for reviews and sales and then see where I’m at. 2. If I play a game and don’t like it or it isn’t for me I sell it and move on. 3. I keep an active want list so to prevent myself from doing impulse buys. This way if I see a game I’ve never seen and am interested in it instead of buying it I put it on my want list and research it to see if it’s worth my time. This has saved me so much time and money. 4. I don’t buy retro. Granted this easier as I’m a newer gamer but if it’s not available on the switch or PS4/PS5 then I’m not going to get an older system just to play it.
"Let us co-op together, And still your fingers on your controller, I pray. The time is out of joint-O cursèd spite, That ever I was born to get platinums! Nay, come, let's play together." Hamlet 2 - Wilmer Shakespeare.
The video that made me subscribe. I'd enjoy hearing regular reports on how you're tackling your backlog "this week" or "this month," with some commentary.
I own 1,887 games on steam, which has become my primary gaming platform. I think the way I manage my backlog now is I just play whatever I’m into. I definitely don’t buy the new titles unless it’s a title I was anticipating (like cyberpunk for me). If I finally start “getting into” a game, I’ll only play that game until I either finish it or I stop being into it. If I’ve spent a considerable amount of time, I’ll try to push myself to finish it since I know it’s highly unlikely I’ll be able to recapture that feeling.
I don't do any game selling. That is because when I started out I did something that turned out to be stupid. As I didn't have any gaming experience (because of being homeschooled), when I got the original FFVII used and sucked at it, I returned it to the store without knowing it could be an investment.
How to beat a backlog. Hide the credit card and take it one game at a time. Or be like me and run Days Gone, Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2, Remnant from the ashes, and One more dungeon at the same time.
Currently have 197 PS4 physical games and have completed not more than 50 titles since I bought my Ps4 around 2017. Good thing I don't have PS5 yet and I'm holding myself not to buy more PS4 titles until I get a PS5. I'm clearing my backlog lately by franchise. Last month I just completed Batman games from the Tell Tale series to Arkham Series. I can't believe I ignored those games for years. Planning to get back to From Software games next since It's been 2 years since I beat Bloodborne or might clear the remaining PS4 exclusives that I have.
I have 631 games just on digital ps4 library and some of the same ones physically lol every time there's a sale I'm like well another $100 and I'd say I have only finished 100 of these
Huge backlog that just grows but I have decided to just focus on franchises or devs that I enjoy like souls/from software etc if there is time in between and a good sale I buy and play a game, but with limited time just try and buy and play what I buy immediately. Also not all games are plat games some are just games I play through once or run through platinums are for ones that I enjoy but don't require 100+ hours of time I don't have
My best friend taught me a trick. Set out 6 games. Play one until you feel you've gotten somewhere in the story, or where you feel comfortable stopping at. Move to the next game......rinse and repeat. This way you don't feel boggeddown, and it adds variety so you don't burnout as well.
That clip at the beginning was hilarious 😅 I feel like I will never catch up with my backlog. Since I started trophy hunting it has slowed me down catching up because I have to go back to games I played years ago to clean up. I decided to only buy a select few games at launch that I'm really excited for but then PS Plus have been doing really (for me personally) the last few months, brand new games for PS5 and games I didn't already have in my backlog 😴
I usually go by time needed to platinum the game. Quick platinum games rated highly usually get pushed up on the backlog queue to play next. I just platted Maneater last night on the PS5. It took about 20 enjoyable hours.
Curbing the completionist tendancy helps to finish games quicker. I'm still not fully cured but I learned a lesson with the Batman games. A lot of these "challenges" are just psychological manipulation to keep you playing.
I have a HUGE backlog because of digital sales. Usually I’ll do something like, “Alright, I’m going to play this series from start to finish.” Then once I get bored of it after 2/3 games I say, “Okay, whatever is first alphabetically.” Then once I’ve played a few in that order I’ll say, “I’ve really wanted to play this game for a while.” Then I’ll pick it up. Then I’ll ask for recommendations from a friend who is familiar with my backlog. Then when I’m burned out from long story games I’ll play a few arcade-y style games that take no real effort to follow. Then I’ll repeat the process once or twice a year. Still need to finish the Resident Evil games... I’ll get to you soon RE3make.
I just got a PS5 and the Kingdom Hearts Collection and the very thought of getting the platinum for all those games is so terrifying I play through the other games on my shelf instead
The best way to deal with the backlog is to make videos about it, at least it’s serving one positive purpose when that happens!! New games will always make it impossible to truly tackle the backlog, it doesn’t matter how many spreadsheets I can create as much as I want to play last years big game, this week’s hit new flavor is always sweeter ;)
I have a jailbroken ps4 pro and had hundreds of games only beat a couple. Now I have my ps5 and I’m beating them 1 by 1. Although I bought like 10 during Black Friday but I’ve beaten and resold 3.
I have so much backlog man . I'm still buying PS1 games today lol . I really hate staring at my PS5 when I'm playing other Playstations . Feels like I'm cheating lol . My collection has been getting bigger during Covid season . Been getting into PlayStation games that I've never got into cause back then I wasn't into much genres . Like I've never played any Killzone, Resistance or Ratchet and Clank games . But I recently bought every black label copy complete on eBay lol . So I've got some caching up to do . I just finished playing the Uncharted and last of Us series couple months ago . My collection is insane let's just say that
The way I deal with my back log is I schedule out the games I play by when I bought them. I play the newest, most interesting game to me currently first then I play the oldest game in my backlog and I continue to alternate. This way I stay interested and reduce the amount of games unplayed.
I have just made a list of around 30 games and decided that i am not going to play anything else in my entire life. I might pick spin-offs or sequels of those games, but only if i will really like them.
OMG! I just went and checked my list of owned games to see exactly how many do I have unplayed... I have 214! Plus 10 I already completed but have new DLC out now or in the future (that I own via season pass). And 12 I won't Plat due to MultiPlayer. BTW MultiPlayer is something I despise because most of the time is a grind made to keep the hooked players on it and spend on mTs or DLC. So I skip those, 100 hours grinding or 10 other games... But 214 yikes, today I added 7 from the March Madness Sale.
Yeah, I bought too many games I haven't played since the PS1. And after Netflix and Amazon there are no places to rent a game anymore to check if it's worthy or not. I don't want to make commercials for PS now but I made an Abo by accident and I played a lot of games which I wanted to by in the last 2 months. And yes it safed me to buy around 20 games. So it could be a option. And by the way, great videos you are doing. Maybe I buy the Hunt to play once with you and after it counts to my backlogs too😉😂
This is what I've been doing for some of my games just changing genres every now and then it does really help. It really does help too if you're a trophy hunter like me . Also new subscriber here 😁 loving these vids . Just got Uncharted 4 Platinum along with the other 3 games . Made Uncharted 4 my 50th plat . Doing Lost Legacy and all I have to do is beat it on brutal. So far on chapter 6 . So close !!!! 😁
I reaserch about the platinum before buying a game. If im gonna get the platinum, ill buy it on playstation. If i dont to go for the platinum or play in a casual way. Ill buy it on steam. I have no problem abandoning games half finished on steam. And ill go faster on my backlog.
I organise all my games by the platinum rating and play them from low such as 2/10 difficulty then move up from there and i never get bored cause i mix up the genres 😁
I have around 40 to 50 in my backlog. Most are games i really want to play as well as a lot of stuff just need to finish like dead space 2 hardcore run or max Payne 3 new York hardcore minute. That stuff i get tired of playing so many play thrus and take a break and never come back

No can do. I mostly play PSVR, and I must have ALL THE COOP GAMES!!!!
Yeah and 1 game took me a month to finish. Plus I tried to platinum each so I won’t feel guilty spend my hard earned money.
I love and hate my backlog of games for my systems
The video I didn't know I needed! Thanks, Josh 😂
No problem!!
You can't play them all but you can remember fondly those of which you enjoyed
For me the way I deal with and prevent a huge backlog is a few things:
"Let us co-op together,
And still your fingers on your controller, I pray.
The time is out of joint-O cursèd spite,
That ever I was born to get platinums!
Nay, come, let's play together."
Hamlet 2 - Wilmer Shakespeare.
The video that made me subscribe. I'd enjoy hearing regular reports on how you're tackling your backlog "this week" or "this month," with some commentary.
I really like this idea. Thanks for joining the fam as well
Heh, beat my backlog. That's funny. I buy like 5 games a week and play 2 of them. If I never bought a game again, I would die with a backlog.
Future Josh at it again, great video. The sketches keep getting better and better.
My exams next week after that am going to have a week off UNI,hopefully am gonna cut a bit of my backlog
I don't do any game selling. That is because when I started out I did something that turned out to be stupid. As I didn't have any gaming experience (because of being homeschooled), when I got the original FFVII used and sucked at it, I returned it to the store without knowing it could be an investment.
This is literally a problem I'm facing right now
How to beat a backlog.
Rpg games are the bulk of my back log! Sitting on Valhalla waiting to get a ps5 for a year now! Just got my Ps5 last week woop woop
You can go ABC, you can go genre. It really depende because mood.
This year I decided to do my backlog in alphabetical order.
So far 25 platinum done and upto R
My backlog is about 124 games, but I’m looking at trying to cut and sell some of that to pay for a ps5
Yo ! This is your best video so far. Fun to watch and so true.
My backlog when I buy a new game 😐
This video is gold, I'm dead because of that music video, that's all I'm gonna say :P
Glad it’s still getting some love! Might need to reuse that again at some point. 😂
@@ThePlatinumTrophy was literally searching for how to beat that darn backlog and found you lmao. Video made my day 😂
Bro we are all playing online free to play now so that backlog will never ever be overcomed.
I agree, but most of the free to play game aren't too deep. I started now with PS Now and it safed me to buy minimum 30 games.
The only online free to play I do is Rocket League every now and then... Not interested in that sort of games.

I love the intro!
And despite my backlog I still have It Takes Two, Ratchet and Clank and Kena pre-ordered! :P
My current backlog is 385. I have an app that helps me keep track.
loving the intros man keep up the great work.
I have a jailbroken ps4 pro and had hundreds of games only beat a couple. Now I have my ps5 and I’m beating them 1 by 1. Although I bought like 10 during Black Friday but I’ve beaten and resold 3.
Hundreds..... there are hundreds of games still sealed waiting for me at some point..... HUNDREDS......
My collection is insane let's just say that
The Platinum Trophy: How to overcome your backlog?
Also The Platinum Trophy: buy these games on sale this week
The way I deal with my back log is I schedule out the games I play by when I bought them. I play the newest, most interesting game to me currently first then I play the oldest game in my backlog and I continue to alternate. This way I stay interested and reduce the amount of games unplayed.
I have just made a list of around 30 games and decided that i am not going to play anything else in my entire life. I might pick spin-offs or sequels of those games, but only if i will really like them.
I'm just going to start with A and work my way to the end of my list
I've been collecting PS3 games the last year so I have 200+ PS3 games to play plus about 50 on PS4! 🤔🎮
I have 95 PS4 games (Including both physical and digital). :)
My backlog on ps4 is probably around 10 to 15 games. On steam though it is probably over 100 love me some steam sales
Maybe I buy the Hunt to play once with you and after it counts to my backlogs too😉😂
It’s all these sales you’re keeping us posted on.
.... We don't talk about the backlog...
This is one of your best videos
That white ps sweater bro 👌🏾
thanks bro!
I organise all my games by the platinum rating and play them from low such as 2/10 difficulty then move up from there and i never get bored cause i mix up the genres 😁
I started noticing I'm doing this too aha
I have around 40 to 50 in my backlog. Most are games i really want to play as well as a lot of stuff just need to finish like dead space 2 hardcore run or max Payne 3 new York hardcore minute. That stuff i get tired of playing so many play thrus and take a break and never come back
Thank u, Josh! I feel much better about my backlog now! Aah, feels like I´ve been to the best game psychologist... Free of charge!
Haha, glad I could help
