Cosplaying a character that wears an old world war 2 nurse’s cape and this was the closest thing i could find. Easy to follow and super clear steps, my Wirt from Over the Garden Wall cosplay is done thanks to you!
This is my first time sowing any type of clothing. I bought a cape pattern and found it extremely hard to work with. I love how you explained this in simple terms for beginners like me to understand. I greatly enjoyed your video. Thank you for posting.
I followed your video and managed to finish a cape! I love the collar piece, it makes even my knee length cape look refined. I also used wool and really appreciated tips on how to work with it, I had never used wool before and had no idea what I was getting myself into. Thanks for a great video!
This tutorial is perfect for me because I hate using pre-made patterns. I'm also about to make Raya's cape from Raya and the Last Dragon. It looks exactly like this so this is great!! Thank you!!
I like this. I live in Jamaica (hot climate), I think I'll leave out the collar. Thank u, I've never sewn, except for an elastic waist skirt. Hand sewn, no machine.
At first, i was very intimidated but i kept watching your video and the way you explained it, i think i will give it a try! Thank you for taking your time teaching us how make a beautiful cape!
I love your teaching style!!! I really can see myself making several of these capes. Thank you for executing this sewing project with such ease and patience for the viewer. Can't wait to see the rest of your articles of sewing. Love Your Style!!! Thank you.
Shannon thank you for sharing this very informative video. I'll def try this. I pray that God bless you and your house with happiness, health and prosperity.
This is an amazing tutorial. I've being sewing for several years now, but I'd never tried making a cape until now. The instructions were very easy to follow and the cape is fantastic. Thanks for this amazing tutorial.
Thanks for the video, It really helped me to make my own cape. In particular, finishing sewing with different colors of bobbin and upper thread is a method that I did not know about. Thank you and please forgive me for using a translator because I am not good at English. ;) Your English was easy to understand.
This is so helpful. I'm trying to make a longer cape for a costume I'm making at the moment, this explains it so well, I feel really confident in doing it now. It will be linen and around the length of my torso. Thank you so much! Will report back in a few days when I did it. 😅
Hi sweetie doing very well and finishing is very good..love your work ..Allah Shubhanatala bless you and your family members...Regards Rashida from Canada
One of the best video tutorial ,I was in search of like such video .thanks for sharing this video which will be easy for me to this type of cape, jazakAllah
Thank you for the video. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a question: Why did you use 23inches for the collar length (at 7:03) and not 20inches as you decided at the beginning?
Great question and I apologize for the confusion. I filmed the beginning much later than the rest of the video and used 20” to demonstrate how I measured around my neck (I should have made sure that matched my pattern I had made months prior 🤦🏼♀️). I actually used the 23 inches for my pattern piece so that it would overlap quite a bit and still sit comfortably around my neck. Hope that helps
man this looks super cool and neat for my school project, well i can do it but sadly i dont have a sewing machine and the accuracy of a surgeon hand since its my first time sewing and have no experience whatsoever, material also scarce for me to work on incase i make any mistakes. maybe in another universe
Thank you for this video 😃 ,the instructions are so clearly explained !!! It would be so nice if you make a cape with an opening in front so that the arms could go out of it. Thank you again😀😀
It will be very helpful for me if u share your body measurement for this cape in this tutorial and also how many yards of fabrics you have taken.thank you
The pattern can be drafted based on your own neck measurements and how you would like it to fit, overlap, etc. are you looking for the measurements I specifically used? I used 2 yards of wool, 2 yards of lining. Here is a link to the blog post with written details www.indoorshannon.com/sew-a-simple-chic-cape-sew-along-and-tutorial/
I’m gonna cosplay Kanao Tsuyuri from demon slayer and I need to buy a cape this is perfect except I’m not gonna do the collar part I’m going to make the neck part a bit larger
Hello - Yes, you could draft your collar piece and angle out each side instead of drawing a rectangle. I am not sure how it would look all put together as I have not tried it with this style cape, but you could try a test one in cheap fabric for the collar and try pinning it on to see how it would look.
Shannon that was wonderful 😊! Your a great teacher! I'd love to move forward and get fabric! I'm allergic to wool .. any ideas? Happy New Year Bonnie Ohio 🎉
Thank you so much Bonnie - any fabric with more structure should work well-maybe a velvet, faux fur, etc might be a good option or a suiting fabric for lighter weight
I have an existing circle skirt from a dress. The fabric is velvet and would be the perfect cape. Not sure how to make the waist portion small for my neck 😢. Trying to use this video for tips.
That sounds like a great upcycle - after creating your pattern from the tutorial, try cutting it out on the existing skirt- hopefully the skirt is large enough to fit your new pattern - hope that helps
@@indoorshannon it’s huge!!!! I didn’t want to take apart the skirt. I just wanted to work on the waist part and make it smaller to go around my neck. I’m having some issues. I know that it can be done. I just have to take my time and consider how much sewing I would have to do on the existing part of the skirt. I wanted to keep the hem of the skirt in place. However, I might have to cut the entire thing.
Hi I'm Sadia from Cape Town, South Africa. Will it be possible for you to give me the full measurements please. I'm just a beginner n try n sew my own clothing. I will truly appreciate if you can do all the measures for me please. Thank you
It will depend on the size cape you are making and the length you want- a cape like the one I made in the video will roughly be 2-3 yards depending on the width of fabric

About how many yards did you use?
I believe I had at least two yards of each fabric- lining and main
Uhh.. a little late but- what was the white thing in the collar?😅
The interfacing? I am guessing that might be what you are talking about- it is fused to the back side of the fabric
