A new game made in Sierra's old game engine (Betrayed Alliance)

- You've heard of retro-inspired games, but have you ever heard of an entirely new game created in a late-80's game engine? Probably also, but here's one that might still surprise you: Betrayed Alliance Book 1, made not to LOOK like an old Sierra game from 1989, but actually MADE IN THAT ENGINE. This is truly old-school!
NOTE: The game has been updated since this video was recorded which fixes a number of little obstacles I ran into in my playthrough. Check out the game (with its new update) here: slattstudio.co...

Dude, it's so awesome of you to bring attention to this game! For any fan of the original two Quest for Glory games this one will be a hidden gem. I'm filled with anticipation for its long-awaited sequel.
Great to see you spreading the word. This community is just wonderful. He did such a fantastic job
This is the video which told me that the game exists (v 1.3.2). A worthy game it is, too.
This is a great looking game! Thank you for playing it. I'm looking forward to the next part.
Oh this game looks cool. I'm going to have to check it out!
Definitely seems like a cool game, and pretty impressive tech for sure!
Also funny timing because I'm making a game in AGS and your tutorial vids from back when have been helping me a lot.
Glad to hear those old tutorial videos are still helping, despite their age. :)
I love seeing people making new stuff with old tech, even if it's greatly expanded old tech like GZDoom is with Doom.
It is really cool to see what contemporary devs can squeeze out of old systems!
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I might check the game out. Not going to watch much more of the video as I wouldn't want to get spoilers. Thank you!
(OT: Got a new hair cut?)
There aren't a lot of spoilers in this video; I didn't get very far in the game. Just enough to get a good sense of what it's about. And yup, I did get a haircut. 😁
I don't have as much nostalgia for the EGA SCI era as some people, but I have to admit that I'm intrigued by what is essentially a QFG fangame. And hey, it's free, so no reason no to try it.
It looks and sounds awesome, and seems very complex and a labour of love, but outside maybe supporting 90s hardware, I find it a bit strange to build a game in an old engine like SCI, then having added features and complexities 🤷🏻♂️
I would imagine it's something of a personal challenge for the developer, and also something of a love letter to the old tech. I'm guessing, of course. Maybe they're just nuts. :)
"A noble king made gravy" is all I needed to hear, I am downloading this masterpiece right now.
Seriously tho, I'm a bit late to the party but YES, pretty good game actually. Thank you for spreading the good word, while quite 'niche' this game deserves attention and a dedicated fanbase.
Love your sass, and the game, I'd love to see more!
The game is free. :) There's a download link in the video description.
the music is, somewhat familiar, perhaps something that quest for heroine used
The soundtrack is all original compositions by myself and Ryan Slattery, the game designer.
@@BrandonBlume ah thanks for replying, it did feel like a theme in something though, so good creation for fooling me
this video is chef's kiss
Thanks. :)
This looks amazing!
This looks cool! Very well made.
This is amazing, and I love this guy for making an obvious Hero's Quest homage on principal - I'm just torn on if I want to play it now or wait for the bigger update(s) down the road to polish it off. How much play time is there in book one?
Probably about 4-6 hour
☝️ Dev reply :)
Didn't know you could drink the potion in the first room and die! Another one to add to the death count ☠
This SCI version was the best! I don't really like hand-drawn backgrounds that came with VGA-supporting SCI (KQ5 and later), maybe its the low resolution, bad artists or both, but they just looked so smudged and cheap. The dithered vector graphics of QFG1/2 era I consider to be most pleasing to the eye.
I always make gravy with anxiety.
25:18 WHY THIS ENDS?!?!? O my god I'm so hooked up on what come next... where to watch your full playthrough?
I have the full VOD on my 2nd channel: ua-cam.com/video/jn1j9Ncc4BE/v-deo.html
But I didn't play through the full game. This was just meant to be a "first look" at the game to hopefully incentivize people to go out and play it for themselves. The game is free, btw. There's a download link in the video description.
At the name request box, I was thinking "JohnJacobJeimerHeimerSchmidt" -- and then your choice made me laugh out loud! XD
Never let me choose my own character name. When I played Doki Doki Literature Club, I played the whole game as "Poopypants." It really undercut some of that game's dramatic moments.
@@spacequesthistorian I vaguely remember some UA-cam videos about Doki Doki Literature Club... Isn't it like a dating sim that goes creepy *and* breaks the fourth wall?
Yep. Here's my (fairly old) playthrough of Doki Doki Literature Club: ua-cam.com/play/PLeuPHRWonRSSuwa6dFKdOhW988t6S0tYm.html
I gave Yuri a very silly voice that I then had to carry on doing for the rest of the playthrough. It was fun.
It's a blind playthrough, too, so I was completely unaware of the twists this game would take.
@@spacequesthistorian It's coming back now... I think I first heard of this via Markiplier... Anyway, if you haven't, I request that you livestream Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, please! :D
@@darth_zounds I'm not inherently opposed to the idea but I've honestly never been much of a Star Wars fan beyond the first three movies (ep 4, 5, and 6). I've only watched the prequel trilogy once, back when it was new, and kinda zoned out. I watched the first new movie on a plane once (the one where Han Solo dies; I forget what it was called), and I enjoyed it, but I honestly don't really give a crap about the greater lore and universe of Star Wars. To me, it was just a fun adventure movie that I liked watching as a kid. So I don't think it'd be much fun to watch me stream this game, to be honest. Also, I'm really bad at action-adventure games.
I wonder if the hint guide is with answers blank and has the yellow magic marker?
I hope not, 'cos I have a couple of those hintbooks and the invisible ink has dried up long ago, meaning we'll never know what was actually written there.
@@spacequesthistorian even new they were sometimes hard to read.
Yeah, as cumbersome as the "Adventure Windows" (the cardboard with the red film) were, they were definitely an improvement.
haha first comment is mine!
Congratulations, you win absolutely nothing. 😁 Well... except this reply. (Not much of a prize, huh?)
