- Cait O'Riordan of The Pogues sings "I'm a Man You Don't Meet Every Day" at Joe Hurley's All-Star Irish Rock Revue 2016 at The Highline Ballroom, NYC - Filmed by John Rokosny and Robert Maloney for NewYorkMVP.com, Deni Bonet - violin, Sal Maida - bass, Kenny Margolis - accordion, Jon Spurney - guitar, Chris Flynn - guitar, Steve Goulding - drums, Joe Hurley and Edward Rogers - backing vocals.
Cait is a fully trained psychologist, admits to gorging herself on young Irish Rugby players back in the day. What a beautiful woman & legend. ❤️🙌❤️🙌
Definitely
i fell in love with her when i heard the pogues record, AGES AGO. the voice she has is so fine.
"So be easy and free when your drinking with me" " I'm a man you don't meet everyday" Brilliant lyrics. Love this 🙂
Old, old song.
My new favorite singer is Cait O'Riordan. I couldn't stop playing this video when I first saw it. I hope some day to see a live version. I wish her well and hope she never stops singing.
A great song from one of The Pogues one of the best Irish band around!
Cait. What a treasure.
RIP Shane for ever from Corsica !!!

There is an ongoing discussion as to whether a dog was shot or merely taken out to hunt. I contend that it was neither. The old T. Barker double barrel shotgun was nicknamed "a barker". Then "my barker" became fondly referred to as "My Dog". In other words he took out his gun to hunt. Their badge/emblem was of a bounding dog. Incidentally, "canny gau'n man" = astutely going man. Most Scots sing about a dog and a gun. Most Irish sing The Original about a T. Barker minus the mut.
I really think the T-Barker version makes sense as there no indication as to why he shoots a dog in the song, it comes across as he's just a farmer who likes a good swally and is easy to get along with and likes a good laugh
i wouldnt have thought a farmer he sounds like clan chief .
I always took it to be like an "Of Mice and Men" situation. The dog might be old and needing to be put down and one of the hardest things to do it to take on your responsibility to give the dog peace. I haven't seen that explanation anywhere but that's how I've always read it.
Oh my name is Jock Stewart
I'm a canny gun man
And a roving young fellow I've been
So be easy and free
When you're drinking with me
I'm a man you don't meet every day
I have acres of land
I have men at command
I have always a shilling to spare
So be easy and free
When you're drinking with me
I'm a man you don't meet every day
So come fill up your glasses
Of brandy and wine
Whatever it costs I will pay
So be easy and free
When you're drinking with me
I'm a man you don't meet every day
Well I took out my dog
And him I did shoot
All down in the county Kildare
So be easy and free
When you're drinking with me
I'm a man you don't meet every day
So come fill up your glasses
Of brandy and wine
Whatever it costs I will pay
So be easy and free
When you're drinking with me
I'm a man you don't meet every day
So be easy and free
When you're drinking with me
I'm a man you don't meet every day
Nice
Very good, ought to hear Dan Raza’s simple version recorded live in Kilburn
wild mad pouge mahone.
Great woman. And voice. Maybe she needs a double bass player...
She's so fine.
When I first heard the original recording I thought it was Sinead....
Cait where is bass guitar :) ?
A great rendition of this song but the 'finest' is the original by Sinead O'connor and the Pogues😊
Cáit sang the original - she was the bassist of the Pogues until 1986
Stay of the drink, this is the original 😂😂😂😂😂
How the hell can you mistaken Cait for Sinéad?😂
💀
She doesn't look like a man... I used to be a man trapped in a woman's body, but then I was born.
she is good but shane McGowan and the pogues is better
She was in The Pogues
Yeah, this is the voice that sang this song on Rum, Sodomy and the Lash. Same girl, same voice, same magic
named my daughter after this lady and after hearing this song just sweet
To be honest singing a song about how pathetic the person next door is doesn’t work as well without him. Speaking as which the pathetic alcoholic needing person we couldn’t exist without you.
She's my kind of man.
Apart from her long-established musical talents, the reason for Cait's success is that she is 100% feminine. She is a beautiful feminine Irish woman. Any man will recognise this.
Pretty Lady .
Great version.luv the violin
What does the killing of the dog have to do with all this? Never understood. But I'm not english or irish.
I adore that song
always luv this,especially violin
Awesome!🤟😬❤️
Wow - Cait was cute as hell and bloody talented when I (think - I may have been nearly as out of it as the band - and it was a LONG time ago) saw her doing this with the Pogues at Edinburgh Building, Sunderland Poly. Definitely a fine wine thing going on there - stunning, elegant and even better.
I think i should probably stop now.
Gosh, that’s nice. Thank you.
the gal on fiddle great.who is it?
Deni Bonet - violin
ok cheers
A nice swagger ...
so very good xx
IF SHE STILL DOES MUSIC THEN WHY DIDN´T SHE TOUR WITH THE POGUES WHEN THEY WERE TOURING A FEW YEARS AGO?!?!
Likely because they didn't ask her
Because Elvis Costello finished her Pogues career😮
❤️
