I feel that I've got a long ways to go before that could be done. I want to have a really rock-solid 'plug' of material in there before I open the bottom. Having the contents come flowing out is what worries me the most :)
Your supposed to feed on top of the material and layer the bedding and food that way the worms stay up away from your harvest panel and then you can harvest within 6 months of starting the bag.
I have been thinking of taking a new approach of gathering all the larger-size leftovers & constructing a big 'next' level/layer. For some time I have been not allowing myself to delve down into the original first layer... and I've been thinking that I should probably designate yet another layer as being off-limits to future excavation :)
That's how I understood it too... but I recently heard a conflicting explanation about how BTI works. Anyhow, per the conflicting explanation, the BTI *does* target the adults. I might have to research this further one of these days to get to the bottom of what the real deal is... :)

When are you going to harvest the bag ? You should do that soon.

BTI targets the gnat larvae.
Wonder if there's something better to use to kill the adult gnats ...
