Pot roast is my absolutely favorite meal. I also use the crock pot. I mix together 1 envelope of onion soup mix, I can cream of chicken soup, some beef broth and a big dollop of ketchup and pour it over in the crock pot. I also put some carrots in the bottom of the pot before adding the roast. Let it cook for about 8 hours on low. The sauce is a terrific gravy for your potatoes. Yum!

I watched one video about being Amish and Mennonites in 21st century. They showed families in Holmes County, and I immediately remembered Lynette telling about this place. ❤️ Thank you, Lynette for showing your culture, food, lifestyle. Through your videos I learnt about your life a lot! And I should definitely make a stake in a slow cooker❤

Lol..I love the "seek and ye shall find".. I'll definitely be using that phrase😁 The cream cheese brownies are a great idea, haven't had those before. The chicken looks amazing! Well.. everything did😊 I've actually been to the Amish country in Ohio, we stayed in a cabin owned by an Amish family. They cooked and sent over all our meals.. outstanding! They even sent some noodles with one meal! We went on a deer hunting trip, and visited all the Amish shops in town while there, totally enjoyed it! We also have an Amish and a Mininite community right by us in Tennessee, there's a market one mile from our home.. best produce and homemade jams & jellies ever!!😋 Love their pepper jelly!! Thanks for sharing.. and now I'm starving🥴

@@ruthwarren8685 Hey.. they're aren't any stores here in Tennessee, just a produce market.. where they also have their homemade jellies & jams. Its A very tiny community. The store we went in were in the Ohio area. I'm sorry if that confused you! But if you ever come thru McMinn County, the little produce stand is worth visiting if you love good fresh veggies! (That's the Etowah, Englewood, Athens area)

Nick looked / Looks fabulous, he has done so well especially when you live in a community where you tend to entertain and share meals within a group, I can't be easy, but nothing worth having is easy..simple fact eh...you all look wonderful and the children are sooooo lovely, growing up and all the clubs they attend, it's crazy and makes time go even quicker as you're busy busy..

Our Family roast recipe is my daughters Favorite meal. I like to get a Chuck Roast. We put down a bed of sliced onions and the roast which i season good and the secret to it being moist is that You can put a can or 2 of Cream Mushroom Soup. When the meat becomes tender we like to add Baby Carrots and chunks of potato and cook till tender. It has the best taste and is so tender.

Love the Amish noodles. During the winter, that’s Friday dinner with grilled cheese sandwiches. Make a Mississippi pot roast in the crock pot. Super easy and so good. Take a chuck roast and put it in the crock pot. Add one pack of au jus mix, one pack of brown gravy mix, half a stick of salted butter, one pack of ranch dressing mix and 3 or 4 pepperrocine peppers and do not stir. Cook on high 8 hours. I know I spelled the peppers wrong but you get it I hope. They are just yellow whole peppers in a jar you find in the pickle section of your store. I stir mine up after it's cooked. Make some mashed potatoes and English peas and dinner is done.

The searing of meat holds in the juices. Try sautéing your asparagus in a little bit of butter/ olive oil mixture, S & P then add in a little water cover for few minutes to cook to your liking. Now add in a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and reduce to a small amount of sauce. Adding in a little more butter to thicken sauce along with a squeeze of lemon juice. Place on platter and drizzle the lemon- butter sauce over the asparagus. This is great with pasta too. Have you tried making asparagus with Shrimp? So good. This dish can be eaten just as is or over rice. Fast and easy. 😊

I do miss the dish rack, but a cup rack is ok. Krause sink is nice choice and faucet is nice(would have liked a brass or bronze choice, but I am not paying for it ;) It is very interesting watching the house transform. To warm up Mac n cheese, for leftovers, if you add milk or heavy cream, and mix it in, the "second day" Mac n cheese turns out creamy smooth! I also double or triple my Mac n cheese recipe, to put two aluminum pans of it, into the freezer, covering first with plastic wrap, and then place the aluminum lid on top, writing on the lid, how to bake it, removing the plastic first (I actually write: take plastic wrap off before baking). I try to thaw it overnight in the fridge, and I treat it like "second day" Mac n cheese, and put milk or cream in it, to loosen it, and make it creamy! The amount you made, I usually add a cup, or more of the milk/cream, and I mix it in thoroughly, and add more if needed!
I love cooking extra to freeze, so I make a mess once, and either get three meals, with leftovers, or I can give it away, when I hear a family member is sick.

    I use the following,
First for roast and second for asparagus. I only use these items for the roast and asparagus. Both turn out great.
    McCormick’s Bag’n Season
    Pot Roast
    (This includes a seasoning pack)
    Ziplock Zip’n Steam
I think this is for most vegetables, but I only use for asparagus.
    (No seasoning in this one)

The problem using your crockpot may be because the temperature of slow cookers has been raised by the government people who feel the need to do this. I kept wondering why my crockpot meals were so dry or overcooked. I found Ruthanne on Zimmerman Homestead answered the question about why newer crockpots cook too hot. I got a new Ninja Foodie and you can regulate the temps better.

Yup. Cutting the carbs. Less than a tsp of sugar in the morning. 30 grams of protein for each meal(a little more for a man). My visceral fat (which is a leading factor in strokes and heart attacks) is way down. My lean muscle mass is up and body fat is down. I am seeing a Dr, however. I was not overweight by looking at me, but I went from 155 to 130 in the past year. I did this after my sister was diagnosed borderline diabetic. My mom was overweight and died in 2012 from congestive heart failure. All of my dad's family (7 brothers and 1 sister) have diabetes. It scared me when my sister was diagnosed borderline diabetic so my youngest daughter set up an appt for me with the same Dr. They did blood tests that normal doctors don't do and a body scan and turns out that i have a problem with my thyroid (as did my mom) and my visceral fat was off the charts along with some other funky numbers. I've been seeing this dr now for a year this march and I love the results, and I feel better. It wasn't about losing weight it was about getting healthy and being around to watch my 21 grandchildren grow up. My youngest daughter, who works out every day and eats healthy, also saw this Dr and had a blood workup and body scan. Turns out that she was borderline diabetic. She was fit and trim looking, but her lean muscle mass was low due to the hard cardio workouts. She has since altered her workouts and added the appropriate amount of protein in her diet, and her lean muscle mass has increased, and the bad fat has decreased. Goes to show that what you put in your mouth really affects your health. Now, if I fall off the wagon due to vacation or eating something I shouldn't be eating(aka more carbs), I can tell the next day as I get an intense headache.

@Sarah-mg6gn it is a local doctor and clinic. Anyone can do it themselves if they read the back of packaging. The important thing is that you must stay away from carbs and remember that if it doesn't walk, swim or fly - it will turn into a carb. Less than a tsp of sugar before breakfast. For women, eat 90 grams of protein per day. Fruits will turn to carbs blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries have less carbs. Most veggies are OK, but corn and peas are high. Stay away from breads, pastas, potatoes, and rice. Brownberry makes great low-carb bread. You must eat. Portion control is also a factor. The majority of America is fed huge portions. 30 grams of protein(meat) is the palm and thickness of your hand. And get the mindset that this is not a "diet"...it is a way of life.
My sister, daughter, and I are seeing this doctor, and the health results are tremendous!
My co-workers have mentioned how great I look and want the details so they can "diet" too. I tell them it's not a diet. Have them all the tips and details of what not to eat and they justify "I just had a half a cup of rice" or I'm down to only one mt dew but they are not changing the way their body looks(still overweight) and getting bigger and still on diabetes meds. Half of my workplace is diabetic but they don't change their eating. Therefore, they don't see results. They are not willing to give up the sugar, so they continue to grow more unhealthy. It's a lifestyle change. Not a diet. One of our friends, did they ozempic shots for weight loss. He lost a lot of weight. Went off the shoes per his doctor and gained everything back and more in less than a month. He didn't change his lifestyle.
      IT IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE!

@Sarah-mg6gn but where I live, it is called The Medical Weightloss Clinic. If that helps. They specialize in what your blood tests say and a monthly body scan that tells them your visceral fat(cause of strokes, heart attacks, diabetes). Your percentage body fat and your lean muscle. It's amazing and encouraging to see the numbers go down on body fat and visceral fat and to see my numbers go up on lean muscle. Remember that more lean muscle is better than fat. The results are amazing and encouraging. I can also tell if I have been out somewhere where I have had to eat a meal at someone's house or restaurant and it was prepared with something that turns to carbs. I have a headache and feel sluggish, and my gut hurts for a couple of days after. Carbs affect the body in ways you can never imagine.

Just today we bought some Walnut Creek Cheese trail bologna and some cheese. We love WalnutCreek Cheese and have a sweet brother in Christ who is in management there. We take several mini overnight trips to BnB’s in that area and of course eat at the Dutchman. What a beautiful area. ❤️

Some nice tips here. Thanks for sharing them. When I trim my red meats, I use the fat like butter or bacon grease. I heat it then dispose of it. I then sear my meat. I sear all of my meats before putting in the crockpot.
I too am finding that red meats are tough lately. They are chewy. I exercise my facial muscles more when chewing than speaking. LOL. My Costco meats have been the worse.
I find it better to cook the meats in the crockpot initially on high then switch over to low to make the meat real tender.
I was hoping that you'd provide a link for the marble brownies. It's nice to see Nick lose all of that weight. However, for brain health and no brain fog, he does need carbs. So, in place of bread, throw in low carb veggies with his steaks.
I really enjoy your videos, your tips and family dynamics. I love how you involve your children in helping you out in the kitchen. It teaches them responsibility and skills. I wish you posted more, especially when canning or creating new recipes.

I have been wanting to ask you... I watched a video from a guy talking about Mennonites and he used highlights from Cara's wedding in his video along with some highlights from the Graber's videos. I was hoping he didn't pirate them without your permission. Enjoy you all so much. You are in my Prayers. God bless Carlyn Bray

Have you tried a stick of butter on top of the roast in the slow cooker? I have good luck with that. Do everything you already did but add a stick of butter on top.
