- The Samsung expert raw app, is it worth using? When we compare the Google Pixel astrophotography mode to the Samsung S22 Ultra expert Raw, we really dont see much of a difference.
But is the expert Raw App worth using, compared to the regular camera app?

I find it better for astro than the standard pro mode. Simply because of the "sky tracking" fix. But I still prefer my camera. The phone is extremely sensitive to wind 😬

Not sure I will be mate. There isnt enough of an upgrade to make it worthwhile, especially for astro.

@@ShayneMostyn There are some pretty significant changes they haven't talked about; the speakers, microphones, battery life with new chipset. Even the camera. Samsung have really pushed the buzzwords like "200MP" etc but again, no mention of the brighter F1.7 aperture, sharper better quality lens on the main shooter etc, which really boggles me.

I'm a little confused why there isn't more star trails. When you say it takes 10 minute shots of 20 second duration. If the software then stitches them together, the trails over 10 minutes should look longer, or not?

Never thought or knew that this would be possible. Most I have done is take pictures of my dogs and cats. But saw what the S23 can do of the moon and saw this RAW feature and that is pretty amazing.
I've been taking great moon shots with the s21ultra
How to do this! I use the raw app use the show stars let it stand for 10mins no moving and no stars on the picture! Why?

Depends on your situation mate. I back up all of mine on NAS HDD with all of my professional work images.

As usual, it's a really great video. What about trying to add a dark frame or calibration frame stack to get rid of some of the haziness and light pollution.
Thanks mate. You could certainly do that and I probably give it a try into the season. Im not sure how it will go with the 4 minute difference in the stack alignment. But there is only one way to find out.

No 4 minute photo. But can do hyperlases manually with Even Longer or ReeXpose.

Wait, what? No intervalometer on the iPhone camera app. Only one I know of is the one on Even Longer.
Which one would you pick for photography s22 ultra or iphone 13 pro max?
They both have pros and cons I think. I use the iPhone as I use Mac etc. The iPhone is better for video and day to day photography, but not by much. The Samsung is far better for astrophotography. The apps on the iPhone are plentiful and have great options for more creative images.

I am also an astrophotographer. Maybe if you are in an area of darker skies with less light pollution the 10 minute might work a lot better.

I tried all the cameras in astro mode with the s22 ultra, the main issue with tha main was the focus, the stara were always out of focus do you think it can be fixed with manual focus?
Now I bought the S23 Ultra, looking forward to try it witg 50 mp raw
Yes manual and tripod. It's around 0.8 focus
Interesting, I found it sharp at 0.7 but I have read others are getting it at .8 .9 and infinity.

Not sure, still undecided. I dont feel there is enough of an upgrade for what I do to warrant the purchase.

What you expect from the new S23 ultra and the crazy high megapixel sensor? Do you it will be similiar in performance with the S22 in night time?
It shouldnt be any better. The 200mp will be binned in low light, just like every other phone. Im not sure its worth the upgrade for what I do.

I got the 23 ultra and it says its not available when trying to launch it from the camera app.
This isnt the camera app though. Its a different app. Not sure if the app is available on the 23, I dont have one yet.

I love apple and I am iPhone user but this all software options for astro surely shows apple is lacking and behind for sure and they should do something about it
There is an app on ios called Nocturne witch does something similar, but not RAW

Just do it before switching it to astro mode, just like the white balance
then after activate the astro mode
But I did not manage to have a nice white point for the stars with this astro mode

@@TheChameleon2008 I don't know, but during my tests, the focus in manual mode was around 0.8 and not in infinity at 1.0
hence my question about auto focus mode in step auto mode
Because for me, it never worked well. It realizes the focus on a cloud, or a decor, but not on the deep sky.
You absolutely can. But I have found auto focusing within this app to be fine, it seems to work just like the pixel. The same cant be said for the camera app.
