    When you want a new idea, read an old book. Beautiful work, as always, Davie. Your attention to form and scale are first class!

    I have been tying since I was 14 years old ; and now I’m 72 years. With 58 years of practice I still learn new ways to tie a better fly. Thank you Davie.

      Hey Mr. Daniel,
      I’ve also been tying since 14. I’m 59 and I respect you’re at the vice learning, to get better at this craft as am I.
      Davie McPhail is treasure.

    This nymph, this nymph catches me so many fish! I've had all sizes of trout and grayling on this, some absolute monsters too! Thank you so much for all the fish Davie.
    And there's no better feeling than landing a nice fish on a fly you tied yourself! Get out and swing some wets / nymphs, it's ace.

    Hi Davie, great instructional video as usual. I have not been tying for very long and every fly tying technique I have learned so far are from watching the Davie McPhail UA-cam channel. So here’s a big thanks from me.
    I use the pheasant tail thorax and leg method when tying my immature damsel nymphs which work very well on my local water.
    Oh, I too have upgraded to a Regal vise, great piece of kit

    I love that even though there are so many synthetic materials out now, you seem to use more natural materials more often and still look realistic. Keep it up Davie! Big fan_ Brandon

    Another great nymph pattern from you. I fish a fairly similar pattern in black pheasant tail on a size 20 and it takes a lot of Clyde Brownies.
    Your tying skills are second to none. Keep the videos coming pal!

      Hi Michael,
      It's great to hear I have helped you with your fly tying but you need to give yourself far more credit as it's you that has sat down and made your patterns work for you so well and thank you very much your kind words...

      @@DavieMcPhail the best thing I ever did was to take up tying. The whole fly fishing game is full circle now I tie my own. I know plenty men you credit you with the fly tying skills so maybe you should give yourself more credit too. I watch plenty tutorials but yours are by far the easiest to follow and the variety is unequalled. Keep them coming.

    Hi Davie, I've been going in my own direction as far as fly tying for about two decades. It's nice to watch someone who is both innovative and different than myself. With the winter we are having in New England I can't wait to fish (tying helps). Thanks.

    Very nice lookin' fly. I'm assuming that since it doesn't have any tail fibers that it's supposed to be along the lines of a midge? I always pick up a tying tip when watching, Thanks for sharing it.

    Another beautiful fly tying video. I looked at the Regal Vise when I first started tying but chose the NorVise because it is much easier for people that have advanced arthritis. Once you learn the techniques of dubbing and winding thread onto the shank of the hook with the NorVise, you won't want to use any other vise. Best regards.

    Hello Davie,
    A number of times you've mentioned a blend of hare's mask. I've wondered if its the entire mask, including poll and ears or ??? Would you say, please?
    Mike

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  4 роки тому

      Hi Mike,
      I have many blends of fur that I have used over the years, the masks is great itself but I would mix it in with some rabbit. Another mix I like is to mix a hare's body fur in with an American Red Squirrel body fur which makes a cracking dubbing for many flies..
      All the very best Davie..

      @@DavieMcPhail Well I knew what I meant, but I sure didn't use words well enough to convey it to you... I'm sorry for that, Davie.
      I'll try again...
      When you cut the fur off of a hare's mask to use as part of a dubbing blend, do you use all the fur on the mask, or do you save back the poll and/or ears for other use (Hare's ear nymph, for example)?
      Mike

      Hi JSF 4star,
      The Cove's Pheasant Tail is as you said a very simple fly which I know you'll enjoy tying and fishing as it's a great old fly.....If I angered someone then I have no idea how I did as I do try my best to help anyone that is interested in tying flies, but you just can't please everyone..

    Hello Davie,
    I've meant to ask for quite a while now... when you take the fur off a hare's mask and blend it, do you separate different areas of the mask for different colors or is your mix all the mask's fur?
    Mike

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  8 років тому +1

      Hi Mike,
      I would normally mix it all but if I was looking for it to be slightly darker then I would just cut the hair off from the darker part of the mask and leave out the lighter sides...

    thanks again davie for your videos learned to tie flys with your videos i think they are great it ment the world to me

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  10 років тому

      Hi robert andersson,
      The B100 is a light wire hook and sometimes it makes sense to tye flies like this so that they sit higher in the water but you can weight them if you want to as they will still fish well. Arthur Cove originally tied them on standard shanked hooks and would dress the fly round the bend to get the shape...I'm glad you enjoy the videos and that they have learnt you to tye...
