Excuses? Try some facts. Oscar outlanded him by more than 100 punches. Oscar had tito's nose bleeding down his shorts, his eye half swollen, dominated him for 10.5 rounds. Tito couldn't land a punch to save his life, you don't win a fight simply by coming forward while you're getting your head snapped back almost the entire fight. Biggest robbery of that decade minus holyfield/lewis. Winning atleast 7 rounds of the first 9 = WIN, no matter what happens unless tito knocked him down, didn't happen

And ran in the last 3 rounds out of fear of being knocked out. That was terrible to watch as a fan of boxing. Oscar would have stood and traded in the championship rounds.. And he would have gotten battered. That's why the judges voted against him. I scored it a draw by the way

I saw that trinidad fight live. I'll never forget it. The fight was such a big deal especially in chicago where we have a big mexican and puerto rican population. De le hoya in my opinion won the fight i think even with the last 3 rounds being beyond bizarre. He still won the fight to me. Idk elsewhere but where I'm from who won that fight depends on who you ask puerto ricans trinidad mexicans de le hoya. Think black and white would be split. Either way great fight.

Really do not like how the tried to portray the Trinidad loss as justified just because he backed away for 2.5 rounds and neglect to say how he should have been ahead at least 7 rounds of the first 10. Oscar won that fight, he could have sat on is stool for the last 3 rounds not throwing a punch and still won.

The "teen heartthrob" aspect could very well be where the obvious "animosity" between Oscar and Ryan Garcia comes from, as Oscar may hold a slight resentment to how massive a following Ryan has, and he's become the new "Justin Beiber" of boxing, and feels slighted and outshined?? His best win was against Ike Quartey. Ruelas would lose his very next fight to unknown fighter named George Scott. Ruelas was an okay fighter, he had to climb off the deck twice to beat a 35 wins 17 losses Freddie Pendelton. JCC Sr. was past prime by about 4 or 5 years when he fought Oscar. A young JCC Sr. would have been a different story. Oscar deserves to be in the HOF.

In reply to your comment 4 months ago regarding Bernard Hopkins being "a lot bigger than Oscar De La Hoya" when Hopkins knocked De La Hoya out, did you forget something? Hopkins weighed in at 156 lbs. and De La Hoya 155 lbs. Hopkins is 6'1" , and 39 yrs. old and De La Hoya we 5'11", and 31 yrs. old. So Hopkins was much older and not much bigger!......On the other hand, when De La Hoya fought Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Mayweather , Jr. 30 yrs. old is 5'8" and came up to and weighed in at 150 lbs. De La Hoya 34 yrs old, 154 lbs. and 5'11' Also even though Mayweather was obviously the smaller fighter he still came up to 151 lbs. Del La Hoya was not willing to fight at a catch weight or come down. Mayweather still beat Oscar Del La Hoya who was the bigger fighter. In the Pacquaio vs De La Hoya fight it was pretty much the same scenario: Pacquiao, 29 yrs old, 5'6.5" 142 lbs. De La Hoya 5'11" , 35 yrs old, 147 lbs. So Pacquiao was still the smaller fighter and like Mayweather, Jr, he also beat Oscar De La Hoya!
Oscar De La Hoya was a good fighter. However, he certainly was not a great fighter.

@@oscarRodriguez-tn4sw You must be a juvenile based on that lame reply you made. Oscar De la Hoya was NOT a great fighter in the same class as Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Rocky Marciano, Muhammad Ali, Carlos Monzon, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Julio Cesar Chavez, Floyd Mayweather. The reason that Oscar De La Hoya will NEVER be considered a great fighter like the ones I have mentioned is that he lost 5 of the BIGGEST fights of his entire career, including to 3 undefeated fighters. He lost to Felix Trinidad (undefeated at the time), Sugar Shane Mosley - twice (undefeated at the time), Floyd Mayweather, (undefeated still), Manny Pacquiao, and Bernard Hopkins. Also for your information, Floyd Mayweather has grossed the most money in the entire history of professional boxing! DON'T EVER FORGET IT!

Oscar beyond all the glamour and movie star type celebrity was indeed a good fighter, that was more evident when he campaigned at 130 and 135,he absolutely steamrolled the opposition during those days, his refusal to take on some challenges was a knock on him for a while, once he moved up to 147 and on is when he showed his willingness to take on all comers, but unfortunately for him,he lost ALL of his biggest fights(except the Trinidad fight)but nonetheless he was THE FACE OF BOXING back then.

Actually, watch the fight, Oscar still fought hard in the 9th round. It was the end of the 10th, 11th and 12th he got on his bike. Oscar won 8 of the first 9 rounds. How you could give tito anymore than that is absurd, he barely landed a punch! What's more, even where you say Oscar was afraid to get KO'd, Tito still wasn't landing any punches! LOL Oscar's corner told him to stop trading punches and box, after the 10th round, and that is exactly what Oscar did and should have easily won

Oscar never won a fight like Chavez. Chavez's win over Meldrick Taylor in 1990 was something Oscar never accomplished in his career. Instead of fighting Trinidad, he ran in the last few rounds.
