Streets of Rage 3 Super Axel speedrun

- This is the Streets of Rage 3 Hard% Factory Old World Record speedrun with Super Axel in 33:47!
To play with Super Axel, select Axel in character selection screen. Once you pass the cut-scene intro, before the level screen appears, rotate the d-pad clockwise as many times as you can until you gain control of Axel as he runs into screen. If you've done it correctly your special will be replaced with Axel's super special. Super Axel's special can deal 4 and 1/2 bars of health.
This was played on an original Sega Genesis (Model 1 NTSC) with a Genesis 6-button controller.

That op attack only talking away half of jet's health really says something about how absurdly big some of the bosses health bars are
You probably know all of this already, but as I was watching I picked up a few things.
The Signals are best manipulated with your back turned and they won't slide.
Normal baddie groups will get in on it for 3 of them with the 4th waiting...unless they're Galsias who are naturally overaggro.
The Suzie/Electra combo might be a little better if you jab infinite one of the Electras until the rest gather up, then use the Super for maximum damage output.
For Ninjas groupings it looked like it's 2 of them instead of the usual 3 unless you're in a corner. (The exception being in the subway tunnel where their AI seems to be different than usual.)
On the lateral elevator before Mecha Axel, back throw might be faster for enemies in the middle to back of the platform than the Super.
The knee combo grab loop might be better against some of the mini robots only because the knockdown from the Super delaying them from advancing towards you. (Especially ones hugging the edges of the screen)
Again, more than likely stuff you already know but I felt like at least bringing them up just in case. Also if others decide to run SoR3, it might help them.
This is a good case of you should always say it, even if you think it's obvious.
I didn't realize that the Galsia's would always get in on it or that they liked to group in 3.
I was trying to stunlock the electras, like you said. Part of the problem is the train knocking everyone over and also the Suzies jumpkicking you.
The mini robots are such a pain. I was actively trying to use the super special only when it wouldn't knock them way off of screen. They're a problem and if anyone can figure out how to route them, that's where the biggest time save will be.

@@Anthopants Ok, after a second viewing I need to correct my statement about the Galsias. Some with act more aggro than the other enemy types, others act normally. (It's hit or miss) The Knife carrying one are always overly aggro.
Also the 4th+ person will sometimes get in on the action late if another dies midcombo/midattack.
I love playing the bad ending with Super Axel, more fun and points

In the 90s we played with a 6-button-controller. One day I noticed, I can do the supermoves with the small grey buttons, X, Y and Z. I am not sure, but I think it was the X-button. You need to rotate the D-pad counter-clockwise and smash the X-button, then the normal Axl should do these moves. Normally you have to collect these "stars", it's like XP, but not with 6-button-controller. You can do some funky moves then. I think, in SOR2, the backhand-punch was pressing B and C together, but with 6-button-controller it's only pressing Z, I think. The double-kick to the face was actually part of a combo, but with 6-button-controller you only need to press Y and he performs the double kick in the face. Man, it's like 25 years ago.
The real question is, who wins in a street fight. Axel or Max?

Super Axel plus a glitch that removes Robot Y's i-frames and that's what happens :)

@@rubenelropero5232it should be the same input as the special move which is the A button on a genesis/Mega drive controller. Unlocking super Axel is a different story though which involves a few clockwise rotations when the stage 1 text is on screen. If you have any questions let me know I might be able to answer them
How come Axel spins twice with the super move? and how come it doesnt take some of your hp when you use the super move without the OK bar at full?
Super Axel is different from Axel. Super Axel requires a code to activate and what you're seeing is Super Axel's special :)

28:00 minutes in the video was very gratifying to watch. I hate the jet character. I really enjoyed on sor2 using max and getting the atomic drop on those guys.

Yes, it is a cheat code to get Super Axel. That's why Super Axel, and all the Super characters, has his own category :)

That's a secret function you can activate while you choose the character

How are you spamming like that with Axel.
Super Axel requires a code to unlock. When you select Axel, rotate your d-pad clockwise until Axel is under your control in level 1 and you'll get Super Axel :)

Super Axel doesn't lose health when he uses his special. Select Axel and rotate d-pad clockwise until he is playable on screen and you get Super Axel :)
