Thank you for the ways you use moss, I think the method of blender use for grinding the moss into powder is a very good option, I will do that in future I think just need to purloin the bullet blender.
Yes! Grinding up the moss takes very little time and helps with a more even distribution process.

I am so glad you made this video. I never knew you could grind moss up and broadcast it onto your bonsai. I will put a scraper and a bag in my truck for when I see some pristine moss lurking in a shady corner.
If possible, I would enjoy your take on air layering. I have some beautiful trees with interesting trunks. They are full size and I would like to pull them out of the ground and bonsai the trunks and plant the tops. Fruit trees . A weeping cherry and a weeping peach.
Hi Bruno! Great idea to give your bonsai a head start. I would worry about peach trees a bit…because all text seems to indicate peaches suffer various diseases and are not long lived. Try other prunus like Mume flowering apricot. Considered a class bonsai.

Citrus like kumquat make nice bonsai. *And I love to buy some Hong Kong kumquat, Fortunella hindsii (the smallest-fruited of the kumquats with round fruits that rarely exceed one-half inch in diameter).
More seriously, citrus with small fruits make wonderful bonsai. Most trees you buy have ugly graft marks. You must have lots of citrus trees. You can find an interesting big branch to air-layer to give you a good start.
@@bonsaiheirloom i have 5 lemon 3 clementines 1 red lime tree. they are already aging up quite well. some of them 6 years + =)
The Hong Kong komquat sounds nice, i seen kumquats around stores here in Norway, not sure if it is the Hong Kong variant tho. As you say many of them come with ugly grafts and, well, in Norway we do unfortunatly not have the best culture for shaping trees, so many of the nursery stock trees looks like more like flowers or bushes than trees.
However, beside a clementine tree with larger sized same shaped fruit, the scale difference with a Hong Kong kumquat could be fun and interesting.

Seems easy and straight forward. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge on putting moss on our Bonsai. I’ve taken the moss and rubbed it over a firm screen to get the powdery consistency. Didn’t need to procure Bullet device, old or new. Keep the Bonsai videos coming my friend.

@@bonsaiheirloom it is actually a large kitchen strainer. I’ve also used various soil ingredient sifters I or others have. I last did this to the moss, the scrubbed Sphagnum moss over it also, then combined (sorta equal quantities) and sprinkled onto moistened (not soaked) top of soil, and then misted it well. And kept it moistened and was careful when watering to not wash it off.😃

Hi Nicholas! I had a big nice old bougainvillea bonsai which is now sitting in my good friend’s home in Santa Barbara. I have also made bonsai out of a big ficus that a friend had grown in a nursery pot. They can be worked on like many trees.
I will soon post tour of my bonsai collection. Maybe divide it into four groups to make it easier for you to track the progress of trees.
The content can be quite random--a tree may be overgrown in one video and showed what it looks like after it is pruned the next time. So in one video it will be over grown, and the next time around it has been pruned and tidied up.

You talk about reading lots of bonsai books but as you know, where there is good information there is also bad information. Can you put a list of books to read or articles. I am in the southwest Florida area and bonsai is quite hard here I can use all the help I can get. Right now I have a Chinese elm a Brazilian rain tree and several bougainvillea I am trying to train.
Hi there! Most bonsai books will contain the basic information. That’s a good starting point for you to modify your “system.” Like using my soil mix as a starting point (Not to take what anyone says literally, including mine, because it has to work for your situation) instead of the expensive traditional material.
To answer your question, John Naka’s two books are like a “bible” to me. But it is out of print, and can be found on eBay for quite a bit of money.

Thanks for your moss growing video. It looks like moss is so easy to grow. But the moss in my aquarium and bonsai tank doesn't really grow that well no matter how much water I pour in. Still trying to figure out why. Do you have any suggestion?
Java Moss for aquarium is a different kind of moss. Try to gather moss off roadside or any wet spot. Then use my method. :)

My recommendation is to use topsoil. Using up your akadama should be fine too!

While nothing is more lovely than a layer of moss, critics say that they prevent the soil from breathing and also lead to root base and trunk rot. Your thoughts pls?

Do you know If you can grow small mushrooms on a bonsai?
Why not? For sure, letting moss grow in the crevice of the bark gives it the aged look.
Can you make a video of how to make moss from spores? All the videos say to gather some moss….. if I could gather some moss I would need to know how to make moss.

Moss grows very quickly if it the soil is wet like in raining season. I advocate grind up dried up moss (looks brown), spread it and it turns green very quickly. You can have a beautiful “lawn’ after say six to 8 weeks…add a little liquid fertilizer or chicken manure power.

Mister, should I remove the dirt from fresh collected moss? En then grind? Or grind it with the dirt?
No need, you can include a bit of the dirt in the grinding process!
@@bonsaiheirloom thank you very much! But I have dried my moss for 2 days and it didnt grinden to powder but very small pieces, i decided to add that to my bonsai, will that moss grow anyway? Its green small pieces and i mist it every day, will it work? Would be very thankful for response :)))
