In this live training session for students and teachers Dr. Hassaan Tohid teaches what research really is all about. You will learn how to formulate a research question and how to finalize your topic for a systematic review. In this session, you will also learn about PubMed, PubMed Central, Medline, and the MeSH search strategy.
You will learn how to decide keywords, and what is the building block approach. You will also learn the phases of systematic review.
Phase 1: The planning phase where you decide a research topic and design. You need to finalize what kind of project it is going to be, is it a systematic review or it's a traditional review. This is also the phase where you need to decide the ingredients of your project. What does it mean by ingredients? It means you need to have a list of items that you will need for your project. If you plan to register then register the protocol. You should also come up with your clear research question during this phase.
Phase 2: This is the search strategy building phase where you must decide your keywords and MeSH keywords. This should be done following the decision of databases selection. Are you using PubMed, PubMed Central, Medline, or Google scholar? Embase? Or Cochrane? Once the search strategy is built you now need to remove the duplicates from your results. Once that is done, now it is time for screening. Once screening begins you must involve another author with you to screen the Abstracts and Titles. After screening is done, you check the full text and screen involving the second author or second researcher. After this apply the quality appraisal to keep the best articles.
Phase 3: This is the writing phase. You begin writing by following the PRISMA checklist. Start with the Introduction section, then method and results, followed by discussion and conclusion. You also draw the PRISMA FLOW DIAGRAM at this stage. The last step is to write abstract. After abstract check for plagiarism and am submit the paper to the journal of your own choice.
