I drove a Matbro Mastiff front end shovel, one of two the company bought to load tunnel spoil away in the construction of the Victoria Line tube, in London UK. 1964
The base and articulation gear was very similar to the tractor shown, it was powered by a Ford 6 cylinder engine mounted in the rear half. The front half housed the drivers cab situated between the bucket lift arms, very good vision all round. Two forward gears one reverse, no clutch, lever in the artic position engaged two/4 wheel drive. 1.5 yard bucket and I could load a 11 yard tipper in 3 mins. including tamping the load sides so the driver could leave site immediately
On the 1st service Matbros head mechanic turned up in a brand new Mercedes Benz Estate car. Some service vehicle!!! He told me it was his present from the company for helping in the steering design of Matbros, he also said the boss had just returned from the US after securing a deal with Caterpillar on either the patent sale or use of, anyway it was for a lot of money.
I went onto operate the tunnel boring machines and have travelled the world constructing tunnels. Had a great life and watching Vietnamese disking fields around me to grow cassava used in MSG production.
Fascinating, yes indeed Matbro made a lot of money selling their patent to the big American firm!! The Matbro tractor was based on the loader design but backwards, and many more shovels were built than tractors!!

Nothing wrong with the video - noticed that disc plough too, but isn't it a great pity that the tractors weren't properly matched up to a properly set plough? - and at least ploughed the ground nicely / properly. Goes without saying ( said it! ) that showing a tractor involves MORETHAN being a stuffed dummy on a seat. Thanks for providing the material to comment on in these tough times - & stay safe .
Well said and looking occasionally over your shoulder to see what the plough is doing might help!

County were in business until early 90's and discontinued their relationship with Ford when it came part of Fiat (New Holland).
Northrop retired from agriculture i believe in early 70's.
Matbro were buyed by JCB in the early 80's.
Are you sure? Please check - Matbro ended up in N Ireland and has since had Terexas an owner..
No. We had a Matbro TR 250 telehandler in the 90's nothing to do with JCB. " Matbro began operating at a loss in the late 1990s and in the end went under in 2003 after accounting issues in their parent company Powerscreen. The old designs were then sold to the tractor company John Deere. which sub-licensed them to heavy lifting company Terex, who continued to evolve the designs, with new ideas such as side-mounted engines instead of rear ones and hydrostatic drive."
