    It's great to see Mt. Fuji once again. Japan will never miss it. Oregon really made a fantastic deal to buy it. I understand the moving of it was relatively easy and as you can see a great view.

    Seems like they really had the customer in mind with the design of this mill and it's components. Glad to know there are still companies out there creating quality products that are aimed toward consumer ease instead of how much money they can get out of you when a little maintenance is needed.

    You should spray some oil, or Boeshield, or at least some WD-40 on that blade to keep it from rusting and getting all scaley on the sides.

    So why only 5 blades? There has to be a reason but I'm not a wood worker so I don't know. I would think the more blades the faster it would cut and the smoother the cut would be. Please explain. Thank you :)

    Many years ago we were descending into Portland for an arrival long after midnight. It was a clear, starry winter night with a low undercast below. Poking up through the low blanket of clouds was your Mt. Fuji. The mountain wore a lenticular cloud as a close fitting cap, a cap that like everything else shown brightly in the brilliant moonlight. As a photographer I longed to capture this beauty on film (that’s how long ago this was) but realized it was impossible to do so. It required a platform more stable than an airliner and an exposure that would be impossibly long from my vantage point. So, instead of losing the moment fussing with a camera I was allowed to enjoy the moment as it should be enjoyed, and captured it in my heart forever.

    Nice rig! Very sweet sharpening feature! I have about 12 bandsaw blades. I use 6 blades while waiting for the other 6 to be sharpened "in town". Cost of sharpening is about $5 CDN and time to replace a blade is more than it takes to sharpen the Lucas blade. Lucas cuts a wider kerf than a bandsaw but cuts faster and straighter. Biggest difference is that my bandsaw mill cost was $4000 CDN...still a nice rig and worth the money to some!

  • @paultmckay
    @paultmckay 7 років тому +1

    I think lucas recommend sharpening every 2hrs of machine time (maybe longer on softer wood I guess). I also understand the water is not so much for cooling but for clearing sap (aussie woods can be sappy). I also wondered if your sharpening stroke could be longer.

    All swing mills with those type of blades 4 or 5 tips on a blade are quick to sharpen and its a great advantage over a band saw mill, however the width of cut is a lot wider I own a Turbo Sawmill warrior M8 have a look its under, Our Turbo Sawmill.

  • @ckh2815

    Watching the video, the diamond blade didn't ever appear to make contact with the leading edge of the saw tooth. It did make contact below the tooth but "sahrpening" that wouldn't help much at all.

      I noticed the same. Wheel was grinding the heel of the cutter and never touched the actual cutting edge. Forty years in the machining environment here... If he had ground at that angle until the edge touched he would have increased the hook and weakened the edge resulting in faster wear and increased probability of chipping.

    Have you hit a nail, barbwire, railroad spike, old bullet, chain link fence or pocket knife with the Lucas yet? I have hit them with my woodmizer and been very happy to know the $25.00 bandsaw blade took the brunt of the damage. I like the Lucas for certain applications but I don't see it as an equal comparison.

      Jan van der Vloet If you go watch the couple videos from 3ish weeks ago with the mill you can learn for sure. But I believe it has a 10" cutting depth, so you can mill a 10x20" full dimension.

    • @MrJANTJE123
      @MrJANTJE123 7 років тому

      Ahh, that is still quite big, i thought it was way smaller but than this is heaps better than a bandsaw right?

    • @chanceywilczewski8992
      @chanceywilczewski8992 7 років тому

      ***** A bandsaw can usually cut slabs wider than 20", and some of them can clear 10" or more, so not really. The Lucas mill is definitely better for making beams, a bandsaw mill is much easier to make slabs with.

    Nice! interesting that the turbosawmil uses the exact same grinder setup down to the wheel, only difference is I sharpen with the blade horizontal, so setup and execution is even faster with just 3 teeth on my saw, about a minute to sharpen. Either way, swing blade circle sawmills are the best!

  • @apuuvah
    @apuuvah 6 років тому +1

    I would certainly like to get a swing blade circle sawmill. Yes, the blade sharpening and longevity would be the main reason. Blades are very easy and quick to sharpen, need WAY less sharpening and last forever, as I understand. The only downside is the higher horsepower and thus heavier engine compared to band saws and chainsaw type saws. Fuel consumption per board feet might be higher too, but I don't think it's really that much more. Someone ought to make a truly portable swing blade with a good and light fan cooled 2-stroke engine. It would use even more fuel, but might be usable for very remote areas where there is no roads. Chainsaw milling is VERY portable, but maan is it slow and kinda nasty with all the noise and 2-stroke fumes.

  • @fermitupoupon1754
    @fermitupoupon1754 7 років тому

    @Koality of Life it has to do with the size of the gullet. You need to store the saw dust for the entire duration that the blade is inside the wood.
    Having 5 really large teeth makes it easier to accommodate the amount of sawdust. I doubt a 24 tooth blade of that size would be strong enough to work, nevermind whether it could have deep enough gullets to actually work as a saw.
