Alternative Creed theory - he had a lot of crazy benders back in the day and there were a few times when he wasn’t 100% sure that he *didn’t* kill someone (but in fact, he didn’t). He’s worried that he might be a murderer.
Murder is definitely my favorite episode of the show. Everyone has their moment to shine from Meredith lying on the floor pretending to be dead, to Creed peeling out in the parking lot, to Oscar's AMAZING accent, this episode has it all. Plus I love that Michael actually stood up to Jim and that Jim finally understood Michael's madness and decided to go along with it. Definitely a 5 out of 5 episode for me as well.
I watch The Office to fall asleep each night and this was an episode I somehow managed to miss almost all the time. When I finally watched it, I was actually quite captivated. It's an unsung classic!
i've been binging all of these videos while i get ready in the morning from start to finish and the behind the scenes information is so fun and fascinating! this is hands down my new favorite channel!!
Great video; I really enjoyed the fake ad segment! As for why Creed would leave the office in such a hurry after hearing that a murder has been committed, my interpretation is that Creed doesn't want the cops to look into him as part of the murder investigation only to uncover all the crimes that Creed committed. So basically, Creed isn't a killer, but he is a criminal, and he doesn't want to be investigated by the police so they won't uncover all his crimes.
I think that makes the most sense. His dark life in general, not actual murder by Creed. ...Then again ,there *was* the coincidentally blood-spattered shirt on Halloween. Hmmm...
This is my favorite episode. I love how insane it gets. I also feel like this is one of those rare times a huge chunk of the office actually plays along with Michael. The Co manager arc to me is about Jim learning to understand Michael better. I also like Andy and Erin together( at least this season they kind of wreck it when they get back together). I find it hilarious that the only thing in Andy’s way from dating Erin is the fact that he is Andy. The Kevin thing is weird to me too although he does seem more aggressive at moments in later seasons. Although most of those moments include Holy and I wonder if he’s still bitter about what happened when she first came. FUN FACT you may have missed. I swear I am not making this up. I remember there being a fan version of this episode. Each shot was recreated by fans with a mixture of animation and live action. It was on the NBC website. I don’t know if it’s on peacock or DVD.
Or, option 4, Creed believe there has been a murder, he believes he is a suspect, he can’t remember if he’s killed someone or not, and takes off in fear anyway
I personally always took Creed freaking out about the murder and leaving as just him afraid of the police looking too deeply into him. Or finding the weed he was growing in the Office.
Definitely one of my all time favorite episodes I do declare! Although I have to respectfully disagree about your theory as to why Creed high-tailed it out of there once he heard he was a suspect. Pretty sure the writers intended that bit to insinuate that Creed has indeed committed murder at some point in his past. Anyways, great video as always - cheers!
Michael’s time capsule? His VHS copy of Fundle Bundle. “All Aboard for Sales” train whistle. Maybe that Peewee Herman bowtie he was forced to wear as a kid in his mom & Jeff’s wedding..?
Office Murder Mystery TTRPG (4+ players): (1) Choose someone to be the "Game Master". They choose a character to play - perhaps Micheal, Dwight, Pam, or Jan. (2) Everyone else chooses an office character to portray. The GM or group can decide any general details (ie this occurs at the Office Halloween Party?) and make small talk as each character before the murder occurs. (3) GM announces the victim, the murder, and the circumstances of it, ie "the delivery man was poisoned by punch in the kitchen!" (3) Games Master creates 2 clues that will give away who the real Murderer (aka Scranton Strangler?) is and writes them on a card to be chosen by the murderer. If in zoom, GM randomly chooses someone and messages them. (4) Everyone picks out of a hat in which one piece of paper designates the killer (5) All the non-murderers think of one incriminating clue and one clue clearing them. (6) If irl, everyone circulates and talks to each other. If on zoom, everyone takes a turn giving their alibi (7) everyone goes around the circle making their accusations (8) the true murderer reveals themselves, and the characters play out the ending
The distraction of the game is perfect in this case. These workers can't do anything about the buyout. All they would do is sit and worry, which isn't helpful. At least the game provides some entertainment, and even some understanding between Michael and Jim.
I always kinda thought when Andy was talking about having a "weird nebulous flirty thing" with his "cousin", that he was actually talking about Erin, and just said someone else in to hide his feelings for Erin. I assumed it was just a joke that he said cousin because he couldn't think of something else to say on the spot for some reason lol. Especially since they had tried to hide it a when they started getting together. Could just be because I've watched the episodes out of order several times or something
Great field guide, Chris. I absolutely LOVE this episode and it seems like it's often overlooked as being recognized as one of the "greats." I guess maybe because there's nothing super memorable as far as the character lines go, but it always makes me laugh throughout the entire show. Now first of all, I looked back over the comment sections of all the videos you did covering the Michael Scott Paper Company arch and I can't find that rude comment someone made to you regarding sports. I wanted to read exactly what was said and try to figure out why that person seemed so angry. What was up with that?? I've never felt that you "reduce sports to showing off." What the hell does that even mean? You're not a sports channel journalist or sports analysis expert, nor do you claim to be. And if anyone is being unnecessarily "erudite" and TRYING to give off the impression of being intelligent, but just making himself look like an ass, it was the fool who made that comment. Second of all, I personally would love it if you briefly showcase more Office related products. I'm always looking for something original and as you said, with the holidays coming its the perfect time to start looking. I like the CultureFly quarterly box, but it was a bit out of my budget range. I would love to buy one of their boxes individually, as opposed to a subscription, but they seem to be out of stock. Anyway, keep up the awesome videos. Your true fellow "Office brothers and sisters" fans, appreciate each video and can't wait for the new one to drop each week. Peace, love, prayers and blessings to you and yours...
After finishing the season and seeing in the Finale that Creed was in on some real shady Grassroots stuff (like, worse than fake ID's lol), I've always thought that his reaction here was bc he didn't want to be involved in ANY questioning/suspect process that may shine light on his past(/present?) crimes lol
12:55 I wouldn't be so sure Creed's not a killer, though. He's an acquaintance of Squeaky Fromme, member of the Manson "Family", who in turn almost killed Gerald Ford. Creed has said he's been part of a number of cults. Even some suicide cults (yet he's still alive, that's a dark joke there). Sounds like he had some groovy adventures in late 60's that may be a little at odds with police. In a weird similarity to the last episode, there are still old guys from those times being arrested for drug trafficking in Big Sur who were part of late 60's drug rings over there (MDA)
I always bring the scene up with kevin to a friend and feel the same way, he doesn't understand what I mean, even though he's a die hard office fan. It just feels like the only scene where Kevin actually gets mad at someone, and feels weird
@@elijahfordsidioticvarietys8770 well Erin has her own emotional instability that caused her to sporadically move to Florida later on, which in turn caused Andy to chase her and lose his job to Nellie. With Jessica he had a supportive family on her side who all loved Andy and his singing. When his terrible father blew all the cash and disappeared, they would have probably gone out on a relaxing getaway to the cabin instead of having a meltdown, and they may very well have had the supporting finances to keep his family boat. Their cabin appeared to have a spacious lake, with the family boat in his possession, he and his brother, Josh Groban, have a two week vacation, where Andy finally gets to raise the mast as the captain, and returns to work more emotionally satisfied than ever. 😁
It cracks me up that people will throw away your entire series (which has been AWESOME) over simply disagreeing with you on something. 🤦♂️ If agreement is the barometer, you may as well put away all entertainment. Lol
I don't remember, did Andy end up trading characters with somebody or did they just pretend they were roll playing brother and sister agreeing on a date?

Your response to that rude person's comment was priceless. But, in my opinion, it never came off to me like you were reducing sports to merely being only a distraction. They can be a distraction, but that's not the entire picture. It's just part of it. It's not like you were saying there's nothing more to it. But really, if you sit and think about it, which that comment did make me think about it for a second... Aren't all things that we do in our lives a distraction from something in one way or another? How would we be able to live peacefully if we didn't have some sort of relief from the monotony of everyday procedures. So we engage in hobbies and other activities that interest us to take our minds away from the periodic dullness of life, and transport us to a much more enjoyable plane of existence. Is that really not what a distraction is in a lot of ways? I'm not really trying to throw shade at that person, because I don't know them personally and it's really not that big a deal. But the fact that they got so angry over something so minor really just seemed small-minded to me.
I think this episode demonstrates Michael's true heart. When Jim finally catches on to the plan, it's a great mentor/mente moment.

To prepare for his role in Knives Out, Daniel Craig watched the Murder Mystery episode of The Office on repeat for 17 weeks.
Pam is always such a normal girl-next-door, but she goes full dork at the end 🙂
