The same type of valve has been in service in my Tinkerbell since it was built in 2002 - it's mounted inside the dome on that engine, still steam-tight.
Theoretical tractive effort calculates out at 238 pounds. The latest development of our steam indicator includes a drawbar sensor, so we can compare indicated with drawbar horsepower - when I get a chance, I'll indicate this engine and get an actual value.
we use ball valve regulators in our locos at the great cockcrow railway and we run on a commerical basis, so I wouldn't worry at all. Its never happened to us.

How long will the nylon seals in the ball valve/regulator last, wont they be at risk of melting?
What is the tractive effort for one of these locos?
