In Persian there is a proverb that states "Sekandar zamin-o zaman ra gereft be zur, ba yek moshte khali raft be gur", which roughly translates as Alexander conquered all the lands and the time forcefully but went to the grave empty handed. This proverb is usually used when one wants to state the importance of humility and the inevitability of death no matter how rich or great u become.
Makedonia was colder than Israel, therefore Alexander was more likely cooler than Jesus, but everyone has a different opinion on whom would live in a colder area in history... lol
The man was offered mounted axe-wielding female warriors by a satrap in present-day Azerbaijan and even though they were fierce and skilled he didn’t want to risk losing them or having them get captured so kept them as rear guard and married them off to elite Companion cavalry to create the next generation of elite horse-mounted warriors. Despite burning too bright and too briefly, his long term, multigenerational thinking and respect for his former enemies/cultural multiplicity is truly inspiring.
Alexander is not great. He is just a blood thirsty dictator that slaughtered thousands in his conquest. Same as Genghis Khan whom the West call a brutal dictator. If Alexander is great, then Genghis Khan is greater. This is clearly white washing his massacres. A dictator in the West is called great but a dictator in non Western countries are called evil. Just as they glorify Columbus.
Yes there is some debate about dhul qarnyan. Some believe he is cyrus the great, founder of the achamaenid empire, but most scholars beleive he is alexander the great

Dhul-Qarnayn, translated as "the possessor of the two horns," whilst Alexander the Great has no symbolic possession of a two horns otherwise it will be written in histories or engraved in his statue, Furthermore Dhul-Qarnayn was very respected never feared nor disliked by his people including his army for he was righteous rewarding those who does good and just punishing those who does evil but Alexander was betrayed by some of his generals and his army mutinied once thus gave a great speech recorded in history although what he said was unknown it deeply affected his army leading to an emotional apology to alexander. Also the very important difference is that Dhul-Qarnayn was worshiping only one God while Alexander was worshiping Idols and this is very important for he is mentioned in the Quran as a Muslim a person who submitted his will to only one God. Thus, Dhul-Qarnayn Can not be Alexander the Great both are great conquerors but not the same people so this is a very weak theory. Although, some scientists believes that he might be King Cyrus who is also mentioned in the Jewish scripturas as he is the one conquered Babylon and freed the Israelites and they praised this man who his name is Cyrus He used to worship only one God; Believe in only one God and was a righteous man. King Cyrus was also a great conqueror rather he conquered it before Alexander the Great and the world was open to him. Finally, Dhul-Qarnayn might have been King Cyrus or someone else entirely. Apologies for my bad English and this is only to correct the misconception that Alexander the Great is Dhul-Qarnayn for he isn't. both are great conquerors but not the same person.
I've heard some people think Alexander was Dhul-Quarnain. Because his enemies claimed he had two horns under his thick, curly hair? Your English is excellent by the way.🙂
When Alexander entered Egypt and Alexandria, the tetradrachms was done with Alexander's face with the horns of the god Amun which, in fact, had 2 horns.

Historical facts = Strabo (63 BC) tells us that Illyrians, Thracians, Bottians and Thesprotes shared the Macedonian territory (Tribes of Pelasgian origin 🇦🇱 ). Source: (Strabo, VII, Frg .n°.11) The Macedonians have just propagated the Hellenic culture and have adopted it little by little ... The ancient authors called the Macedonians Barbaros/non-Greeks... For example the great Thucydides... Example : Thucydides (II, 80- IV, 126) who qualified of Barbaros (not Greek) the MACEDONIANS, Thesprotes, Molosses, Châones Atintanes, Paravaiens, Orestiens etc! Moreover it is not the only one, far from there ....
Historical facts = Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great. But who was this woman who is said to have astonished the Macedonian king with her beauty ? I will write based only on facts, that is, on the quotes of famous ancient authors, mainly Greek. ( For me there is one thing in history, which with the facts are not said ... ) According to Plutarch, Alexander was a descendant of Ajax through his father Neoptolemos and this is accepted without discussion. According to Justin, Philip married Olympias, daughter of Neoptolemos, king of the Molosses. All the authors thus agree on the fact that Alexander the Great was the grandson of a Molossian. For those who do not know this tribe (the Molossians), who were they, what territory did they occupy and how were they considered by the ancient authors ? Let us stop for a moment to know more about the tribe of the Molossians from which the mother of Alexander the Great came. To make it simple, the tribe of Molossians is in Epirus somewhere in the region of Chamerie on the back of Thesprotians who dominated the coastal part. In addition to this, the Kaons who were in the south of present-day Albania and who constituted three of the great tribes of Epirus. Historically, tribes like the Molossians or others who composed Epirus like the Kaons, the Thesprotians, the Paraue, the Antintans and others, are historically linked to the Illyrian (🇦🇱) culture or to a part of it. As Thucydides tells us about the events of the Peloponnesian War that involved both actually in reality Illyrians and Illyria itself, these tribes were commonly considered barbarian (non-Greek) tribes. Thucydides: - "Among the barbarians there were about 1,000 Kaons who ruled without a king. Along with the Kaons, the Thesprotians also participated and were also ruled without a king. There were also the MOLOSSIANS, the Atintants and the Paraues. ( HISTORY OF THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR ) All these tribes, mentioned by the historian of Athenian origin Thucydides for their participation in the famous Peloponnesian war in the 5th century B.C., are considered as barbarians, therefore not Greek! ( Thucydides II, 80- IV, 126 ) The Kaons, the Thesprotians of Chamerie, the Arintans and the Parauets constitute the backbone of what one called Epirus. Among them are of course the Molossians where are the roots of the family of the mother of Alexander the Great ! And Thucydides is not the only source which defines the Epirotes as non-Greeks. There are many others! According to the encyclopedia Basic Antiquity, composed of 86 volumes... Pauly Wissowa the Real "Encyclopedia Alterumswissenschaft" says that the Epirotes are of Illyrian origin 🇦🇱 and have strong links with the population of southern Italy! More concise on the issue, the only Nobel Prize in history 🎓 is none other than Theodor Mommsen author of the cycle "Corpus of Antiquity inscriptions" which says that: - "the brave Epirotes, the Albanians 🇦🇱 of antiquity supported with traditional loyalty the young and brave Pyrrhus or "the Eagle" as they called him " . Let us point out on this subject that the Albanians name themselves "Shqiptar", that is to say "sons or children of the eagle". The soldiers of Pyrrhus (3rd century BC / Epirote King), called their King "the Eagle" and that the latter retroqued them one day that they were his "children", so the Albanians are the children of the Eagle ... "Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " . (Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable adversaries of the early days of ancient Rome). Lorenzo Braccesi (Professor of Greek History at the University of Venice, Italy, in 1986) tells us: - "Olympias was originally from Epirus, on the part of the father who was king of Epirus, on the part of the mother also and that Illyrian blood 🇦🇱 circulated in the family, there is no doubt. " ( 9,01- 9,15 . The true story of Alexander the great ... - Gjurmë Shqiptare ) That the Epirotes are or are not Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved. The Epirotes and the Illyrians have the same culture, if we consider the Iron Age, the use of tombs, fortifications with several rows of walls, their material culture, the shape of the pots or the ornaments which are identical to those of Korça (current Albania) and religion. Not only ancient authors like Thucydides, Strabo and others have called the Epirotic tribes barbarians (non-Greek) but also later serious publications based on documents and archaeological findings point out the same thing. The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and the sister . The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and sister of another well known Illyrian prince "Alexander the Molossus". I believe that all or part of the strong character of Alexander comes exactly from his mother, from the house that also gave birth to Pyrrhus. The powerful role of women in Illyrian society has been documented by many authors, including those who today identify themselves as Greeks, such as Athenaeus and Theompope. Olympias' influence on her son Alexander was so great. She believed that her son had divine blood and that he was born to rule the greatest kingdom of all time. But the mother's family was not the only Illyrian family to which Alexander was affiliated, his link with the Illyrians was stronger than that!
Historical facts = The family of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. This last, according to the data, had a Macedonian father, but not his mother. She was called Eurydice and came from the tribe of "Lyncestides". Who was the grandmother on the side of the father of Alexander the Great? The mother of Philip is the daughter of the daughter Of Arrhabaeus, daughter of king Sirras, says Strabo. Plutarch is very detailed on this subject. He insists that although Eurydice is Illyrian (🇦🇱) and barbarian in every sense of the word, she was educated to help children. He says very clearly that she is Illyrian, and barbaric in every way. (Plutarch, De liberis educandis. p.69) Lyncestides from where came the mother of Philip II, were a tribe which extended not far from the lake of Ohrid, somewhere in the area of Manastir where the ruins of one of their most important cities are today. (Illyrian, no doubt. It is the last province that has a border with Macedonia) As for whether it was an Illyrian tribe, this is clearly proven by ancient historians and geographers, including Titus Livy, Strabo, as well as Pliny who lists many in detail in the fourth book of the collection of 37 works entitled "Natural History", not to mention the great ancient geographer "Claudius Ptolemy" who also classifies the Lyncestrae among the Illyrian tribes . And the later authors have the same attitude since on several occasions, they mention Eurydice, the mother of Philip II and the grandmother of Alexander, as being illyrian etc... Here what Demosthenes says to us about Philip II of Macedonia (father of Alexander the Great): - "And yet, with regard to Philip and his conduct, they don't feel that way, although he's not Greek and he's not related to the Greeks at all..." (The third Filipino) By Demosthenes (384-322 BC)

As a Muslim I respectfully disagree. Dhul Qarnayn literally means "two horns", Islamic Scholars think him of Cyrus the Great as he indeed did possess the two-horned ram, gave favorable laws to the Jews at the time and was a follower of Zarathushtra's teaching; a monotheistic religion at the time. Historicity gives much more support to Cyrus the Great in these regards.
As a Christian I have to agree with you. Persia is symbolized as a two horned ram in the book of Daniel. Cyrus the great having been it's greatest ruler.
Yeah, I found it weird that they would consider Alexander a follower of God considering he was widely regarded to be pagan. Cyrus makes more sense since Zoroastrianism is a dualistic religion and the Jews are already known to hold the Persians in high regard.
@@thomaswilson3827 Exactly, it wouldn't make sense for Monotheistic religions (Islam, Christianity,Judaism) to give religious support to a pagan over a monotheist. Also the Jews gave their support to Cyrus the Great historically speaking and spoke very favorably of him in their scripture.
@@jeffreycarroll1632 Also, Cyrus the Great liberated the Jews from Babylonion captivity, resettling them and allowing them to rebuild Jerusalem. Would this not prove Cyrus the Great's support for Monotheism and give him the honors of favorable mention in the scriptures?
@Yolo Swaggins That could also be the case. Main point is that Cyrus the Great actually liberated the Jews from Babylon and allowed them to settle in Jerusalem again after such a long time. He did a lot for the monotheistic religions at the time and was directly mentioned in the Torah favorably. I do agree Alexander the Great has been romanticised extensively in most cultures, though the title of "Two Horns" ( Dhul Qarnayn) would probably be a weak argument from a historicitical point of view as compared to Cyrus the Great.
That's the truth & everything they quoted in the video is in some Islamic books. Perhaps some are afraid that these types of legends found ways into scripture

What was left of avesta was actually copies in other cities that was ordered by vologases of parthia to be collected and the resulting version ended up being 348 seasons. There is no mention of Alexander in Quran because he is only of significant to the western culture it is Cyrus The Great in Quran and it is Cyrus The Great who is of significance to all cultures all civilizations all religions in Quran Cyrus The Great is mentioned as zul qarnain meaning ( The one with two horns) so if you see Cyrus the great's depiction on the stones he has two horns on his head and he is in Hebrew bible depicted as God chosen king of the world and he freed Jews and created the first human rights and the title ''' The Great ''''' was originally given to Cyrus and he is the first to be called ''The Great '' in Human history and then Alexander took the title just because to fill the mighty shoes of Cyrus The Great . and alexander was a big fan of Cyrus The Great that's why he took Cyrus's title The Great and so Alexander is not in quran it is Cyrus The Great and he is in bible he is the God chosen king in All three major religions

This was a great video. Thank you. Alexander truly deserves the title "Great". Just last year I read an Islamic book on the Stories of the Prophets (compiled by Hajjah Amina Adil) which had an entire chapter on Alexander the Great. It's content was quite similar to the video including the story of the dragon, and all sorts of strange encounters like the Amazonian women ruled by their queen. Alexander missed the fountain of youth but Khidr and the Prophet Elias found it and they drank of it. As for his religion it was said that he followed the religion of Abraham and was advised throughout his life by his master Aristotle. The book also mentioned that Oğuz Han is Alexander(or Dhul Qarnayn of the Quran). And Gog and Magog according to the book are a tribe descendants of the son of Noah - Japeth.
Great Video guys, however just a minor correction : There is no consensus among Islamic scholars as to who the actual identity of who "Dhu Al Qarnain" was, Alexander is one of the ones whom historians have suggested that maybe the former, but others dispute it, as Alexander was not a monotheistic believer and by Islamic traditions would be considered a pagan, hence why other scholars dispute the claim. Another well done video, though.
"Both things is he: both a goodly king and a mighty warrior" (Homer Iliad 3.179) According to Moralia 331C, Alexander judged this verse to be the greatest of all.
That legend of the dragon in Abyssinia could have been inspired by the Greek myth of Perseus and Andromeda(the lady he rescued from a dragon) -this story was also located in Abyssinia also known as Ethiopia.
Oh, my God. I have heard stories of Dhu-al-Qarnayn (Zulkarnain in our local speech) all through my childhood and never realized it was about him. This video was a wild, nostalgic connect-the-dots experience. Thank you so much for this!
This is incorrect Alexander the Great wasn’t Dhul Qarnayn it was likely Cyrus the Great as Alexander doesn’t match up to the stories of Dhul Qarnayn as he was a monotheist and Alexander was Polytheistic.
Alexander was idol-worshipper. Dulqar nain was mentioned in Quran as monotheist. Alexander cant be Dulqar nain. May be its Cyrus the great or Oghuz Khan(the father of oghuz turk)

In Javanese shadow puppetry and legends, a play that was frequently performed and talked about was Baron Sekender, (pronounced BA-rohn Suhkenthuhr for American and English speaking people) a Javanese rendition of Islamic Alexander the Great. It was only in 2020 that this story is brought on the stage again through an online performance following Covid-19 safety protocols.
The believe of Dhul Qurnayn is said to be prehistoric. Dhul Quarnayn was said to a strict monotheist. Alexander was a Polytheist which would contradict many Muslim ideology and beliefs. Some Muslim believe that he is Darius the Great or Cyrus. Most Muslim choose not to know who he is. On a side note the person that mentioned Alexander the Great was Abdul Yusuf Ali who wasn’t really good at Arabic and some scholars mention that he took credit from others.
One of the most prominent polish legends, originating from Middle Ages, is the legend of a shoemaker from Kraków, which used to be tormented by a dragon living in a cave under Wawel hill, which later became the royal seat of polish kings. Anyway, anyone who'd be able to defeat the dragon would get the princess and kingdom. The brave shoemaker filled the dummy of a sheep with sulphur, which made dragon so thirsty, he'd drink the water from river Vistula untill he just "popped". I wonder if this one, and the Alexander dragon story might be connected somehow!

Salam guys, I am a Muslim, and Alhamdulillah (thanks to Allah) I read the Quran. I just wanted to clarify that there is no way zulqarnane could be alexander the great, in the Quran Allah (SWT) describe Zulqaranne as a devout Muslim and an honest man, and his story if you are interested in reading it is located at the end of surat al kahf in the Quran. Alexander did not believe in Allah but instead believed in the old greek gods so I really cannot see how he could be Zulqarnane. Modern Muslim scholars are uncertain which ancient king was Zulqarnane, Some say he was Cyrus of Persia but still we really don't know for certain, all we know is he was a good man and a man we should all look up to.
Isn't it kinda impossible though that ,if Zulqarnane is indeed an ancient king, for him to literally worship Allah and be a Muslim since Islam begun with Mohammad? It could be that, whoever he was , he was just a monotheist so because he worshipped one God they said its Allah. Or it could be that Mohammad wanted to give to his people a role model to look up to but did not want to tell them that this person was a pagan so he made him a Muslim to suit his message.
@@Hopeforstoicism You ask a good question but you must understand that Islam didn’t start with Muhammad peace be upon him but it started all the way with Adam in heaven when Allah created him. And every prophet after Adam (pbuh) like Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Jesus, Moses and Suleiman (peace be upon them) All preached the exact same message as Muhammad peace be upon him, and that message is to worship Allah alone, Muhammad was simply the last and final prophet of Allah. We don’t know for sure Zulqarnane was prophet or not but all we know he was there.

Leo Africanus, who visited Alexandria as a young man, wrote about followers of Prophet Muhammad PBUH venerating the tomb Alexander the Great [Dhul Qarnayn] PBUH in Egypt: “In the midst of the ruins of Alexandria (in Egypt), there still remains a small edifice, built like a chapel, worthy of notice on account of a remarkable tomb held in high honor by the Mahometans; in which sepulchre, they assert, is preserved the body of Alexander the Great. An immense crowd of strangers come thither, even from distant countries, for the sake of venerating and doing homage to the tomb, on which they likewise frequently bestow considerable donations.”

So yea they might not be great as Alexander. They are still something.
Also I don't have any hate for Alexander. It's just that the way he said it. The fact is we all will perish in this world and one day world will end.
Are we finally heading for a series about Alexander’s battles? Can’t waitttt
Didn`t they make a series on it already?
Or maybe that was BazBattles.

Over 2000 years later and his military strategies are still being taught, battles still being studied and the legend is known throughout the world. Truly is The Great.
Historical facts = Strabo (63 BC) tells us that Illyrians, Thracians, Bottians and Thesprotes shared the Macedonian territory (Tribes of Pelasgian origin 🇦🇱 ).
Source: (Strabo, VII, Frg .n°.11)
The Macedonians have just propagated the Hellenic culture and have adopted it little by little ...
Historical facts =
Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great.
But who was this woman who is said to have astonished the Macedonian king with her beauty ?
I will write based only on facts, that is, on the quotes of famous ancient authors, mainly Greek.
( For me there is one thing in history, which with the facts are not said ... )
According to Plutarch, Alexander was a descendant of Ajax through his father Neoptolemos and this is accepted without discussion.
( HISTORY OF THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR )
All these tribes, mentioned by the historian of Athenian origin Thucydides for their participation in the famous Peloponnesian war in the 5th century B.C., are considered as barbarians, therefore not Greek!
( Thucydides II, 80- IV, 126 )
The Kaons, the Thesprotians of Chamerie, the Arintans and the Parauets constitute the backbone of what one called Epirus.
"Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " .
(Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable adversaries of the early days of ancient Rome).
Lorenzo Braccesi (Professor of Greek History at the University of Venice, Italy, in 1986) tells us:
- "Olympias was originally from Epirus, on the part of the father who was king of Epirus, on the part of the mother also and that Illyrian blood 🇦🇱 circulated in the family, there is no doubt. "
( 9,01- 9,15 . The true story of Alexander the great ... - Gjurmë Shqiptare )
That the Epirotes are or are not Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved.
Historical facts
=
The family of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great.
This last, according to the data, had a Macedonian father, but not his mother.
She was called Eurydice and came from the tribe of "Lyncestides".
Who was the grandmother on the side of the father of Alexander the Great?
The mother of Philip is the daughter of the daughter
Of Arrhabaeus, daughter of king Sirras, says Strabo.
Plutarch is very detailed on this subject.
He insists that although Eurydice is Illyrian (🇦🇱) and barbarian in every sense of the word, she was educated to help children.
He says very clearly that she is Illyrian, and barbaric in every way.
(Plutarch, De liberis educandis. p.69)
Lyncestides from where came the mother of Philip II, were a tribe which extended not far from the lake of Ohrid, somewhere in the area of Manastir where the ruins of one of their most important cities are today.
(Illyrian, no doubt. It is the last province that has a border with Macedonia)
As for whether it was an Illyrian tribe, this is clearly proven by ancient historians and geographers, including Titus Livy, Strabo, as well as Pliny who lists many in detail in the fourth book of the collection of 37 works entitled "Natural History", not to mention the great ancient geographer "Claudius Ptolemy" who also classifies the Lyncestrae among the Illyrian tribes .
And the later authors have the same attitude since on several occasions, they mention Eurydice, the mother of Philip II and the grandmother of Alexander, as being illyrian etc...
Here what Demosthenes says to us about Philip II of Macedonia (father of Alexander the Great):
- "And yet, with regard to Philip and his conduct, they
don't feel that way, although he's not Greek and he's not related to the Greeks at all..."
(The third Filipino)

@Yolo Swaggins
That could also be the case.

The soldiers of Pyrrhus (3rd century BC / Epirote King), called their King "the Eagle" and that the latter retroqued them one day that they were his "children", so the Albanians are the children of the Eagle ...
"Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " .

"Both things is he: both a goodly king and a mighty warrior" (Homer Iliad 3.179)

“In the midst of the ruins of Alexandria (in Egypt), there still remains a small edifice, built like a chapel, worthy of notice on account of a remarkable tomb held in high honor by the Mahometans; in which sepulchre, they assert, is preserved the body of Alexander the Great. An immense crowd of strangers come thither, even from distant countries, for the sake of venerating and doing homage to the tomb, on which they likewise frequently bestow considerable donations.”

Jesus is David's grandson. If the Koran says that David's line is the legitimate master of the world, then Jesus is too. Even a book written 200 years after the events about a "prophet" that never prophesied and a "peaceful religion" that wants to wipe out anyone that disagrees with it has to be held accountable for its words. Jesus is the undisputed master of the world. Righteous King in a line that stretches back to David. Thanks for making this one easy.
@@zachfox5969 by Undisputed master of world I meant they he ruled every corner of world, and Jesus and David lived near 1000 years apart how is Jesus his grandson
@@zachfox5969 and talk about peaceful Religion, you don't want me to get started believe me
Ah, when Devin started talking about Zoroastrianism I knew it was only a matter of time before I would hear ''Ahura Mazda'' from him again.
FOR THE GLORY OF AHURA MAZDA
Ahura Mazda is dead.
Who is ahura mazda?

Again great work with the documentary. Though, I'd like to feature that in the Avesta prayer book that I have is about a mastery of seasons, farming calendars, health and hygiene whilst also following vedic sciences of Shri Krishna. The fact about Alexander the Great being portrayed as learning vedic sciences is a good take for me.
It was definitely why he didn't invade India more so that and people were just tired the Persians were mitigated as the order so to speak of Melchizedek would require of Alexander at the time.
Now I've reincarnated and can teach again through Yahweh's & Ishtar's cosmic portal of life because souls recycle.
