Jun Senoue still sounds like Jun Senoue, even after all these years. You can put this track into Rusty Ruins and it won't feel out of place. Which sadly can't be said about Richard Jacques, the composer of the Saturn version of 3D Blast, Sonic R, and all three Sonic Boom video games. Can you imagine putting Sonic Boom music into Sonic R? I don't blame him, it was probably what he was told to compose. Still, a waste of talent.
I'm guessing you didn't play Sonic Advance 3. The first one was Route 99. Sunset Hill was the game's counterpart to Green Hill Zone, but it was more like Green Hill Zone was on the outskirts of Kingdom Hearts 2's Twilight Town.
Based on Aquatic Ruin Zone which was initially "Neo Green Hill" Zone... but it's not yet another rehash of the tried and all too true zone so it works out.

This is fantastic. I wish we'd gotten something better than Sonic 4; the music here is what this stage should have sounded like IMO. Not many people are aware, but Sonic 4 and Sonic 4 part II were actually canceled mobile games. Instead of starting over, they just ported them to consoles without changing anything. That's why the gameplay/control are relatively simplified and why the graphic/music seem a little bit cheap at times.
