How To Setup A SpaceX Starlink Mesh Network Using TP-Link Access Points, TP-Link Command Controller, and TP-Link Managed Switch.
This build will work for all internet providers. Here's the product list:
    - tp-link Managed Switch: amzn.to/3EQJKZy
    - tp-link Unmanaged Switch: amzn.to/3FVbaih
    - tp-link Router - amzn.to/3so07J1
    - tp-link Outdoor Access Point - amzn.to/3uqDYfP
    - tp-link Indoor Access Point - amzn.to/3rV6Nzk
    - tp-link Control Module (100Mbps) - amzn.to/3Lduaf3
    - tp-link Control Module (Gigabit) - amzn.to/3rVBqEx
This is a longer HOW-TO video and while editing I had a hard time deciding what to leave on the floor and what to keep in.
Instead of dramatically cutting out content, I've created a chapter list so you can skip around if you so desire.

Thanks for being here Peggy. A metal stud or sided build is not easy but using enough Access Point would do the trick. @@jcristina can you recommend one ? We have an all steel home, steel studs, etc. a large sized home, over 4000 sq ft, security cams outside in several locations. Currently using local internet with Suddelink(horrible) until we get kinks our of Starlink set up. Using a modem with a Grypon mesh set up and a lot of Wi-Fi use due to non-working cable tv, metal issues again, so we use fire sticks and streaming. We have 2 unmanaged switches so several areas are Ethernet for better signal. It is impossible to find capable service techs here so I have had to rely on info I could find and do it myself. I fail to understand the Starlink so far. Great speed from modem to my iPad/phone, but less that 3/4 from internet to modem when running a speed test. Any help is much appreciated. I am open to redoing everything if given proper information. Have a blessed evening, Peggy

Thank you for posting this. I am not a tech guy and I will watch this a few more times to try and better understand. I live on 10 acres. My goal is to be able to share the home internet in my barn workshop so I have Starlink internet for my non profit helping veterans with recreational therapy.
The barn is ~ 100ft from the house. I didn’t know outside access points were a thing so that will help a lot. I figure I will then have to learn how to transfer the Wi-Fi to the inside of the metal sided barn.

my in-laws just got their starlink setup and I was actually floored how poorly the included gen 2 router pushed the signal through the 2x4 wood walls. (1) wall and maybe 20ft gave us a reduction of 40% in down and up speeds. Luckily, they have (3) ORBI mesh routers from their previous internet service, so once we get the ethernet adapter, I'll be getting the mesh set up. Hopefully we can get the consistent 100+ down speeds over the entire house. If so, we will expand with an exterior one to get it over to our shop.

So just a note. My older Starlink router ( they replaced with another).. Previously told you they do not sell the ac power cord for the router. So with a little work and a dremmil I was able to fit a power cord. It powered up, but of course was not recognized by the Starlink app. finally after several reads on youtube, found out the mess system they sell you now is actually the same router, but has been reprogramed to act as a mess router. So if you have a 2nd Starlink router it would only be worth keeping if you wanted a spare in an emergency. My older one worked fine but threw a code saying there was some problem. I read another persons youtube where they did the same to him. Sent him another ethernet cable and router. They couldn't solve his slow speeds. Didn't work for him either. Slow speeds equal too many on the network. Starling finally told me that they can not do anything about the slow speeds until the build up their systems. We will see....................................

@@jcristina Of course. I plan on replicating this setup as I have Starlink and similar properties. Would I need more than one primary access point if I am looking to expand my mesh network into my basement and outside? Does the Starlink router connect to the inside secondary access point I would add to my basement or just the primary access point I designate? I see how your primary access point you put outside works in conjunction with secondry access point to your outbuilding but am wondering what is the most effective to go about additional access points to cover inside and outside.

Hi again Joseph. I have a question I’m hoping you can answer. I set up my mesh network EXACTLY how you showed in your video but have since added a few more AP’s. I’ve found that you can only “hop” from AP to AP a maximum of 3 times…my camp is 7 acres and has lots of trees. My main AP, wired to my OC300, is linked to 2 other APs which are linked to more farther away. I’m in a situation now where I can’t extend the mesh network any farther because I’m maxxed out on the number of hops I can do. I have a 5 port non managed switch that the the Starlink router and the OC300 is connected to. Here’s my question: Can I bypass the OC300 and manually connect another AP, thru a PoE, to the 5 port non managed switch? Thanks in advance!

@@stumper2134 I’m just wondering but I am a novice with this but could we not buy a POE managed switcher? Have the Starlink connect to that in port 1 and then have our primary access point connect directly to the Poe managed switch?
We then wouldn’t need the Poe injectors or OC200 or 300?
      Is this possible??

JC, thanks for all you are doing. Two quick questions for when you get time to respond: 1) In your example build, you have data coming from the managed server to the hardware controller and then out to the POE Injector then the first Outdoor Access Point. I need to add two Indoor Access Points to my particular Mesh. How does the hardware controller see them? Is it wirelessly? 2) I also have an outbuilding like the example setup, however, I would like to put another Indoor Access Point in that outbuilding. What equipment change would I need on the receiving end? I'm not concerned about the signal being good at 300 ft., I just want to light up that building. Thanks in advance for the help.

Premium starlink is useable anywhere if you have $500 a month to spend. I’m considering it since I live in a rural area and also spend a lot of time traveling in my RV. Multiple dish’s can use the same premium account. So one for the house one for the Van I’m thinking.

@@bash6519 Starlink Premium is only available in areas of the USA that are currently offering service as the entire USA has not been opened up nationwide yet.
No Starlink device has been made “fully mobile” yet, but this is expected to change at some point in the future.
Starlink Premium currently allows you to have unlimited Starlink Premium dishes on one account & Starlink Premium allows you to change the service address as often as you like, but Starlink Premium isn’t “fully mobile” at this time.
The standard Starlink account currently allows you to have up to three Starlink Dishes on your account & it allows you to change your service address too.
In the future, Starlink is planning on making its dishes “fully mobile” meaning that you can take your Starlink dish with you anywhere & at anytime without updating its service address.
Starlink is also planning on building a vehicle/vessel mounted “full motion” & “use in motion” satellite dish that will constantly track satellites as you drive down the road or cruise in your boat at sea or even use onboard aircraft in flight.
Starlink premium is really targeted at commercial & business users whom need more bandwidth than residential/standard customers need; think of dozens of users at once on a single dish.
It’s rumored that Starlink service could eventually get to 1 Gig per second of download speed, this level of service will be simply amazing & supposedly available to all users; not just Starlink premium customers.
Stay tuned as Starlink is about to get exciting! 👍🏻

Just use a TP-Link PoE switch. Then you can power both the OC200 controller and the EAP-225 with that [gigabit port] switch. TP-Link has multiple PoE switches available, both managed and un-managed. No need for the injectors, except for the meshed one. Your wiring in this video running the one EAP off the OC200, is automatically limiting the network capabilities of the EAP225 to the 100Mb port on the OC200. And then you point out that the lower speed test results are due to the controller - yes, in the way you did it. You are mis-informing people by doing this. The OC-200 is not a router and there is no need to wire like you did. You would have just as fast results like you showed via the Starlink router. Your speed test results are widely varying due to the fact in your backyard, you are most likely bouncing between the wired EAP225 and the meshed unit. And then the fact that the meshed one is connecting wirelessly through the network port limited one, you are killing the overall potential of the system and not providing a valid result.

However, this only holds true if your main access point is connected through the cloud controller. The controller will still manage all access points if you connect the controller to the switch and the main access point to the switch (not the controller) that way, the data can travel from the Starlink connection directly to your main access point. The reason the OC200 is 100mbit is because it does not need to be fast to manage a few access points since no internet data should flow through it. The OC300 is rated at gigabit speeds because it is made to handle a lot more access points, e.g in a hotel.

    • @wavegreen
      @wavegreen 10 місяців тому

@@roygrimm correct. Here are your steps:
Assuming your router is a TPlink ER605
      1. Starlink ethernet into router (port 1)
      2. OC 200 ethernet into router (any other port 2-5).
      3. 3rd ethernet cable coming out of router (any port 2-5) to a switch.
      4. All your access points connect to the switch.

  • @robladw2332
    @robladw2332 2 роки тому +3

That would not have limited you to the 100Mbps if you move the cable going from your controller to your injector. With how you have it wired it is passing the data from the access point through the controller. You should have the LAN side of that injector plugged into the switch. Then connect your controller to the switch also. It would have been and additional couple of sets in the set up. Looking at the switch you had it was not Omada and did not have POE. I would have went ahead with where you were at and went all in on Omada so it could all be integrated. Just letting you know there is a way to connect this that would not have capped you at the speed of the controller but would of been some additional steps in the initial set up.

    Hello dear
I am a new owner of starlink connection and a gen 1 router.
Your videos were very helpful as I was amazed when I received my gen 1 router with only one LAN port.
Now about my problem and what I have concluded.
I have set up a network more or less like yours in your video but with an Omada ER605 Gigabit Router to have a failover or load balancing with my landline connection.
I have run many speed tests to my network.
Anything except from mobile phones get a speed from 12-20 Mbps up and down, even my laptop directly connected to the Wi-Fi of startink modem. When I connect a mobile phone on the startink Wi-Fi it gets 250 Mbps down and 50 Mbps up.
I have contacted starlink support for an explanation but I think it's obvious but it's trolling the connection when something that is not mobile phone connects on the network.
I have tried different setups even with ubiquity USG, with of without the Starlink router even cloning the mac from a phone. Nothing works.
So any ideas??? Please help or at least exposure this issue.

It took me a minute to figure out that the POE injector box has A/C power cord. It's not on your diagram. It may seem obvious, but I've never touched this before, so figuring out I need an A/C outlet nearby. I was wondering where it was getting the juice from on the secondary antenna.
Update: I installed a Mesh network with two 225's and it works great. I installed one at opposite corners of my house. I now have wifi out to about 300 feet around my house. Install was exactly as you described. The Omeda OC200 doesn't come with it's own power cord so I used one of the mini USB power adapters I had on hand. Otherwise it needed it's own POE injector to have power. The OC300 has it's own power cord. Thanks

Hey Joseph, that's an awesome video, thanks for sharing your knowledges, that's precious. Just one quick question. Could you connect a direct ethernet cable from the last TP-LINK router to a computer? I've got a computer that don't have wifi, and it's really far away from the starlink router, so i wonder if it's possible to connect it to the closer mesh router rather than use a long cable. Thanks so much for you answer, take care.

No. Would have to go WiFi to WiFi and then out through Ethernet.

Finally received my Starlink and considering a mesh network. In your list I don't see which POE injector you use?

What about 2 story connections, best place to set up Starlink router, then Starlink mesh, also adding eero mesh?

Does it matter which direction your AP’s are facing outside? Do they need to be facing each other?

      No. The antenna work omnidirectioanlly.

Great video! But i didnt get poe injectors. If I have corded power to my access points do I need the injectors? And if I have 2 ap’s do they both feed out of the 5 port switch?

I would appreciate a video/ explanation (or URL for one) of how to configure a managed switch being fed by Starlink router via its Ethernet junction box. Request from France where Starlink is being widely adopted this July 2023

Love the channel. Will running my Gen 2 Starlink Router and the new AX series Access Points from TP Link give me better results or should I just go with the AC series if not changing my router?? I'm just in the planning stage at this point.

Have you already dome a video on which wires and cables go into the mesh network? If not, please do it!!!

I am planning on buying the latest Starlink system and having viewed your very helpful video. I want to know if I can utilize some of my existing connection devices which are already part of my existing system. If I purchase the Starlink ethernet adaptor can I just plug this into to my TP link TLSG1005D 5 port Gigabit Desktop switch using this to connect to my 3 ethernet only devices (no wifi connections)? Also I have 2 very simple DLink DAP1365 N300 wifi Range extenders which adequately work well for my needs in my house, will these work with the wifi from my Starlink router wifi. Thanks for any advice.

JCristina, hello. I am new to all this. Did you make a video where you took away the Starlink Router and used a different one?

Awesome Video, Thank you so much for the info. This has helped me so much. I do have a question for you if that's OK. So I have a Nighthawk R7000 Router and would like to use this same setup in your video but in corporate this R7000 inline as well. I know that I'll need to bridge the Starlink over to the new router but what else do you recomend I do to set this up properly? Im also going to be using three of the TP-LINK Access points for better range. Your feed back would greatly help. Thank you

Set up the TPLINK as I did and feed the main unit Omada with the Nighthawk should work.

I just bought a Netgear Nighthawk X3600 WiFi 6 Mesh network. I haven't even had a chance to set it up yet. I hope it goes well.

I feel you should let us that are screwed with 2nd Gen know it's hopless before we watch half of more than one of your videos lol I really appreciate your videos and will be back when I'm not stuck without an adapter or alternative

I just watched your video and we just got our starlink and we DEFINITELY need to extend the range to get good speeds all over. I’m wondering how much did this whole thing cost?

    • @jcristina

I picked affordable products by TP-Link instead of going all out. This works fine and is very reasonable. I believe all of the links are in the description. Many blessings.
