@@whitneylu9986 In this instance, it's the context. Because he was the first in the group, some judges would leave 'room' for better scores after him. So, they didn't give him the score he deserved.

Tatsiana A The commentators have nothing but words of praise for Yuzu and this flawless program. How many times did they mention that each jump he made was textbook perfect? Some could not even grasp the perfect word aside from "perfect" to describe this performance. Sadly, the judges did not give enough credit to this performance.

That is true. Then they were all praising Yuzu. Unfortunately now in 2021 they seem to have forgotten how wonderful they used to think he is. They compare and criticize. And he really hasn't changed. Yuzu would be much better leaving competition because he has no allies in the ISU or in the media it seems. I mean for God's sake. Just because you have someone else to rave about doesn't make Yuzuru's achievements any less. This will probably be his last year. They act like his continuing competing bothers them. There is no reason to criticize and disparage. Did they do this to Plushenko? I think not. The media were always respectful to him. Yuzuru deserves that same kind of respect.

Why did all the people burst into tears halfway through this program? Because it went way beyond the technicality of a sport; it was a total package that transcends human limits and emotions. Everyone at the rink could feel it. Thank you Yuzu for pulling off such a perfect program and bringing the fellows up to the level they're at today. Thank you for being our inspiration.

It is very sad that ISU judges have never recognized the greatness and the perfection of figure skating of Yuzuru. While the people with human hearts, like us, are easily moved and hit by his skillful yet beautiful and soulful skating performance, why is it hard for judges to recognize his legendary performances? Even when his jumps were all more than textbook without any pretotation or cheating take-offs?
Corruption.
That's why he got rid of i$u/j$f after winning all the major competitions at both junior/senior level, including his childhood dream (TWO back to back OGM) and achieved a career SUPER SLAM (while being underscored) and as a Pro athlete, created his own brand "SOLD-OUT SOLO" ice shows, that only he can do b/c it's a GOAT thing :) ...and i$u/j$f never deserved him.
I feel so embarrassed for defending I$U judge$, after I$U vice president admitted they had to stop Hanyu, b/c he was winning too many titles by large margins, and breaking too many WR, and they didn't want him to continue winning/breaking more WR after GPF 2015, they wanted NEW STARS on top, that's why they launched 2 NEW STARS in 2016... and PUSHED Hanyu to quit & retire, by underscoring Hanyu and overscoring NEW STARS. to convince the audience that Hanyu is not good anymore... and NEW STARS are better than him... Shame on I$U for artificially creating "score sheet champion" to replace the GOAT.
and to those who couldn't understand why yuzuru fans were furious about the underscoring and underappreciation of this program, this video is solid proof. As for the "not emotional" aspect, I can only say that if you can't see how he pour his whole LIFE into this program (because this is a program about exactly that, his skating life) then you are either blind or just refuse to open your biasd eyes. thanks for making this video!
I think also there were very few close-ups where we could see his face, and this might have given some people the impression it was not as emotional
You have a point there. for example if people see more close up like around 3:51~3:53, they would realize how tender and expressive he is.
well...I really don't think emotion should be "felt" by facial expressions, you can feel it from the skating itself. Just like songs, u can feel it from the songs, sometimes even no need for lyrics... Don't think that's an excuse for some people saying the performance is not emotional enough. They just don't get it or refuse to feel it
yes, i'm angry about his low scores and it's not even about hating on the other skaters like what some Shoma-fans say (though admittedly there are Yuzu-fans who are way too critical on Shoma's technique.. leave him alone, i'm sure he's aware of it himself and he's working hard to perfect his techniques)
it's about Yuzu himself, because it seemed as if *his hard work was undermined*.. so fine, the other skaters' hard work gave them +3 GOE's, that's all well and good.. and then what, Yuzu's hard work is worth less when it's plain for all to see how well he executed the techniques? that's what i'm angry about.. but hey, like what Yuzu said "effort lies but it is never in vain".. i'll just apply it on this case even though it's not his effort that lied, but the judges

Me has watched this over 100 times, it was the most touch, the most ellegance artistry performance that i ever had except performance Olympic 2018, who said he was not emotional was crazy and out of their mind. This performance was so beautiful i even crying at the ends. He was like flying dancing on ice with his smile enjoying. For the haters, they were just jealous because they never can be like him. He is just the GOAT. The one and only !
I was not into figure skating till one day (around 1+month back) I saw Yuzu's video from the Olympics SP 2014 by accident (it appeared in my recommended video list) and I was totally attracted by his skating - and I started to watch his programs from different competitions. Of so many figure skaters (I actually tried to watch quite a few videos from other figure skaters too when I was first introduced to this sport by him XD), he is the only one skater who can give me goosebumps and so much of feelings and surprise. I can still remember the time when I was so stunned by his gala - Notte Stellata, I teared up a lil when I watched that. The first time I watched his performance live (live stream ofc) was this long performance (I missed the SP out of my stupidity lol), and I was so moved by his performance. I couldn't stop crying when he skated - how beautiful, elegant and graceful it was! Words can't express how wonderful the program was. His jumps were all so wonderful, the message he wanted to show to the audience through this program - he did it! And I am really proud of him! And I am really sure he should be given much more higher score than what he was being given. Thank you really much for this video, this really helps people to have a clearer view that how he should be scored, and how skillful he is. And I really hope that people can know how amazing Yuzuru is as a figure skater, and how much love he deserves after watching this video. Yuzuru is hope, Yuzuru is legacy. Oh same here, I was never into figure skating. His Romeo & Juliet video came in my recommended list, i didn't bother for a couple of weeks. Finally I clicked on it and I watched it and thought to myself 'who is this guy?'

As one of the beat skating analysts, Massimiliano noted, this Hope&Legacy was where Yuzuru challenges the ISU judges to recognize his efforts and to score accurately his performance, especially the combination of 4S+3T. Judges considered this combination two separately jumps, so that each jump was scored negatively. Yuzuru was the first skater to show this combination at this event. He wanted judges to recognize the difficulty of this combination and to score it appropriately as the most difficult combination. But.... In the end, judges ignored it.
Hope & Legacy is a soul of poetry inside him.
And all these difficult elements, they are embedded in the program with such a casual and easy way, They are just as natural as a breath taken ，even the difficult jumps. Yes, the program has a force of living , it is organic.

H&L is a program about YUZURU himself, his career, spirit, life attitude and even his philosophy. That's why it's so touching and special! Besides, the technology skill is in high peak and he completed each of them in high quality. The most important thing is that he performed this in such a breathtaking way.

Thanks for making this video. Yuzu's Hope and Legacy in 2017 WC was underscored so much. He should've got more maximum goe from all his elements but actually he just got one goe over 2.5 from the 4S. Judges wanted to hold back his score to advantage the skaters who compete later. Shame :(
No matter how harsh the judges did to him, this is undoubtedly the best long skating program ever. Audiences were moved and got tears in their eyes cause Yuzu put his heart, mind and soul to it. I couldn't agree more. I speak fluent Italian, and when I heard Max Ambesi exclaim, "97.08 is a SCANDAL!" with respect to the PCS, that said it all for me. I always love listening to the Italian commentators because they are not afraid to call the ICU scoring when it is BS, and Yuzuru was shamefully underscored for a flawless program. One of the French commentators (I believe Philippe Candeloro?) said this program will have to be shown in all skating schools. If that's not an indicator of perfection, I don't know what is.

Thanks for making this great video. Yes he did win the gold and break the world record, but thats not enough. His performance was obviously underscored. He worthes more. As a SPORT, the judges SHOULD BE FAIR. The PCS has been too subjective for a long time, now comes the unreasonable GOE´_>`. With all those difficult entries and fluency, none of his jumps had a GOE greater than 2.5 ??? Under this kind of judging, Yuzuru is the hope of REAL FIGURE SKATING. Thank you for your perseverance in pushing this sports and showing us what it actually should be like, Yuzuru.

Hope and legacy is so amazing. I think it is one of the greatest programs in the world and will be handed down.
This is such an amazing video. I got chilled and cried everytime I watched Hope and Legacy. It was long my wish to see HL with my own eyes by the rink and I fulfilled my dream in WTT. Why I cry every time is that I was emotionally engaged by Yuzu, he can always touch the most vulnerable part in my heart and reach my soul. He is skating with his whole.
'Hope and legacy' is such a wonderful program that I love the most. It describes his skating life, he embraces all and shares what he has to us all. This time, Yuzu is not skating to Seimei, not skating to Chopin. He is no one else but himself. "Hope and Legacy" is his skating life, it's the skating life that he steps over the edge of desperation, catches and devotes all he has to us. I remember his words “崖つぷらだらけなんですよね”. It is indeed his skating life and his legacy that is gonna be passed through generaitons.
I have no words to decribe how much I love Hope and Legacy and how much I love Yuzu. (I don't know why I'm crying now.......)
As labelled in this video, it is noticeable that not only can he land jumps beautifully, his transitions before and after jumps , skating skills, performance skills are incredible, these make this program even more better. He is not the one who only want to have high technique scores but the one who curve every single movement in the program to make it a masterpiece. He is a great athlete who always pushes the sport further.
I'm sad that this best program was underscored so much with regard to GOE and PCS. What a shame....... Really want to let them know that we audiences are not blind.......

Thank you for making this great video! As someone said, Yuzuru's Hope and Legacy is probably the most underscored world record ever. You can clearly see that in this video - all the brilliant jumps, all the beautiful transitions in between the jumps, all the flawless spins and dedicated steps, obviously they deserved much higher GOEs than Yuzuru actually got. The performance was both technically and emotionally perfect. He skated the program so well that I could feel the wind blowed over my face and the stream flowed underneath my feet. As Shae Lynn said at the end, his name should be engraved in history and left as a legend. Hope and Legacy presented the story of his whole life as a figure skater, and it's totally qualified to be counted as a "legacy".

This program is the combination of both perfect technic and beautiful artistry. Yuzu reminds me of little angel in the fairy-tale, like he has the wings on his back when he jump effortlessly. And when he skates, he likes a fresh breeze through the water.
every time I watch him and when he finishes the routine I always think to myself its over already?. Then I find myself repeating the video over and over again. He is one of those skaters where you can feel the music from his movements. He is like dancing on the ice. He makes the jumps part of the music as if saying yes the jumps are necessary.

More comments after watching this video. Look at the complicated step sequences and entries! Look at the perfect landings of every jumps! It's not difficult to find out how much time and thoughts that Yuzu and his team had devoted into this program. Each element should deserve a very very high GOE otherwise the hardwork of Yuzu will be wasted and this godlike program will be reduced to other nice but general programs. I'm not criticising others' programs here (of course someone's jumps suck🙃anyway it's not the main point )but Yuzu's one was the most stirring. However in reality, it seems the judges were so hard to be touched which then explained the low GOE marks. What a pity! Or they thought that Yuzu should face a more difficult scoring system because he's much better than others? Anyway it's unfair at all.

My heart always could tell what legacy is. My heart is so touching with his elegant performance. I am glad he had a interview with Mr. 野村萬齋. Yuzuru learned a lot and tried to execute Mr.野村's advice in his performance. Amazing!!

I love this program! Hope & Legacy. it's wonderful that words can not describe : like the floating clouds, the breeze blowing over, like the sunshine through the leaves, and the stream flows in the valley. Every technical elements was performed perfectly with so much sensitive feelings. It's not only touching and moving, but also Great and Amazing!

I tried my best to hold tears in my eyes when I was watching this video. Perfect is far not enough to describe this performance. I was so sad to witness this world record only by broadcast live on CBC rather than sitting there with my own eyes, but I know there will be more surprises waiting for us. He would never stop and go further ahead only because he is Hanyu Yuzuru!

I'm crying.... What a beautiful performance! What a beautiful spirit of athletes! What a ugly referee and scoring way!
Athletes burn their competitive life in exchange for glory! Each performance is unique and unreplicable! Maybe because many judges themselves aren't skaters at all, they CAN NOT understand the significance of these scores!
Even if he knows that there's no environment for fair competition, Hanyu still insists on his own principles. Always give everything and strict demand his own performance. Clean jumps, complicated technique. Even if he understands that he will not get enough rewards. When most of the others simply feel complacent about the score, Hanyu would still review where he is still not perfect, even if he has already scored high points.
Hanyu opened up Figure Skate's innovations and injected new vitality into figure skating! However, there are so many people don't understand this! They try to defame Hanyu and deliberately give him low points because of their private interests. But they haven't thought about the benefits Hanyu brought to FS! Without fair competition, who would want to give such a performance? Who else would want to be perfect about every connection and action?
But Hanyu still insists! It’s such an insistence that gives young skaters the motivation to work hard. It's such an insistence that makes the audience wants to spend money to watch the game! The audience certainly wants to see the perfect show! And then, these selfish talents will make private interests!
So, please at least give each skater the score they deserve! Give more reward to clean skill, give less reward to cheat skill. Let young skaters know that their efforts are meaningful and want to improve their skill! So Figure Skate won't wither.
I like the attention to the easily overlooked details, his spins and jumps speak for themselves. His hands and arms create artistic shapes and flow, you could pause this at any time and he will look like a work of art, never a clumsy moment.
OMG!!! What a fantastic video!!! Hope and Legacy is such a difficult program where Yuzu has performed it perfectly with artistic and emotion. I have only one comment after watching this vid, how the hell this program did not get all GOE+3???? Judges???

Well, I knew fs the 1st time around beginning of 80's from my elder sister. I started to like Torvill and Dean. Up to now (they still skate in ice shows until now in their 60's!). But I never paid attention to singles. When I found Yuzuru, I can say that never had we have a male skater like Yuzuru. It's not surprising when Orser said he's the Torvill and Dean of male skater. He's just unstoppable and terrified some people who can't catch up with the ever changing standard he set every year. He should go to his 4th Oly if not pushed aside by people who should've supported him. But I respect his decision. As he did in amateur world, he's going to revolutionize pro skating world from now on. He's a fast learner. Just wait and see.

I'm new to the world of figure skating but I can't help myself from getting teary-eyed just by watching this performance. It's so ethereal, breathtaking, out of of this world! I was taken into a magical world with all the stars and sparkles around. Yuzuru Hanyu you're a magnificent figure skater! The way your movements blend with the music... I was enthralled the whole time.
Thanks for the analysis. It points out the GOE that Yuzu should get actually. It is not only a program with clean techniques but also splendid performance.
Nowadays, Every time I heard Asian dream song ,Yuzu's figure skating appeared in my mind and made me feel warm and soft.He is the hope and he is the legacy! I wish he could get the truly respect and a fair judge !He is treasure in the world,whatever personality or technology❤️ #weloveyouyuzu

I've watched the video quite a few times now and after the initial surprise of how wonderfully made it is, I have to say that it's also been very informative and educational. It's obvious that lot of hard work has been put into making this video and it's such a joy to see it getting the recognition it deserves; it is a very well made analysis of a wonderful program!
