Thank you, I was having a hard time understanding the video.
Not wanting to be vulnerable, hence the costume she didn't even realize was a costume and not wanting it off for that reason. She watches the other person's TV cause it's a life she can't have (or doesn't think she deserves to have), so when she finally does open up and let herself have happiness, she's paying no mind to the TV at all.

it seems like the « costume » could be symbolizing internalized homophobia . it being a devil costume n the incorporation of church seems like a very literal portrayal of the demonization of queer people being done through the veil of religion . like you mentioned, she believed it wasn’t even a costume . possibly, believing she truly was a sinner for being queer . the only time her and the other girl are seen without heir costumes is at the end, when they’re alone with each other . my guess is this is showing acceptance and comfort . realizing there’s nothing sinful about being queer, because the other girl showed her that . like we see at the beginning, she mentions this girl in the confessional . which seems to hit the idea of her believing her queerness to be unholy home

so I guess.. she was trying to be someone she wasn't, she wanted to be dark and edgy. But the cat mask girl saw through it, and so the demon-girl went to summon satan to prove to herself that she was who she was pretending to be. But it did not turn out well, she found out being dark and edgy is not cool and a destructive way of thinking. Then they both realized that they don't have to put on a persona with each other. And they watch their neighbors television to avoid paying for cable.

In the middle of the video, she tries to become what her costume represents, but it hurts herself in the process. By the end of the video, they are both glancing at a normal life through the glass, and decide to take off their costumes and go to bed, perhaps because they were tired of pretending.

I don't actually see this as religious at all.
The costume is just the everyday "mask" everyone wears, and the fact that he see's she's beautiful even though it's dark and that he acknowledges that she is wearing a costumes = he sees her for who she really is.
...but she needs to face her demons in order to be able to show her true self, with all the wounds of the past that we usually cover up. So she can be sure he likes the real her.

The ending made me really happy. Even with such a simple animation style, vewn was able to perfectly encapsulate an intimate moment where both characters had gotten rid of their disguises, and were truly being honest with each other.

The world needs improving but everyone's too (for lack of better words) lazy to change, so I say fuck the world and keep to myself mostly, striving every day to be better, physically, mentally, financially, etc. I still care for people that are close to me and as I strive to get better I make sure not to put others down by my actions. Tbh I dont think the world is ever going to get better, at this point the only realistic solution would be to start over, whether it be a worldwide natural disaster or the end of the world. I know it sounds a bit depressing but I've actually enjoyed life more living this way. Less people, less problems

I think this video is about sexuality, and a girl growing up in a religious background coming to terms that she might be a lesbian? They are both wearing costumes at the beginning, trying to deny their sexuality, with the devil girl going to confession for feeling this way. The devil costume might also represent how she is different from what the church believes (only heterosexual relationships) because the devil is the opposite of God and 'goodness'. The girl wearing the mask tries to reveal her true self, and devil girl has obviously not come to terms with her feelings and tries to change herself with a demon summoning ritual that just hurts her in the process. This could represent trying to forcefully change herself and her feelings towards this masked girl. In the end they both come to terms with their sexuality.

1:28 I really loved the parallelism VEWN made in this scene with the neighbor's TV show and how being exposed makes her think that they will laugh at her until she really trusts the other person (and herself), so she can find real happiness in the simplest things and feel comfortable together. Its beautiful.

I think this is about the shame people often get when bonding with others? The devil costume is supposed to represent how she sees herself (she even asks the character what costume she(?) is talking about, meaning she sees herself as a devil), and the church/Christian imagery represents the main character's repressed feelings, disconnect from society (it's a devil in a church, and her confession was that she met someone new) and her feeling like she's inadequate.
When the other character takes off part of the costume, she feels good but embarrassed. Her shame sends her to church, where pricks her finger and uses the blood as a tear for one of the statues. She later goes home to perform a Satanic ritual where she pricks her finger again and hallucinates(?) Satan. I think this represents her guilt of falling in love (with a girl I think because that's what we see at the end but this can apply to heterosexual love too especially with the Christian imagery and diehard Christian's stigma around love/sexuality) and how she thinks she's going to hell. We later see that her eye is injured, which I interpret as her succumbing to her sexuality but idk?? She and the other girl(?) smile at each other and at the end it's implied they made love, so that's how I came to thst conclusion.
Anyways rant over, please tell me what you think because I love getting the meaning out of these
I like your interpretation, but i'd like to add some details. Whilst she is only wearing devils costume (and thinks it's her true nature) she later encounters with the real devil and pays a price: her eye. Probably she turns a blind eye on something. What for? She seems very lonely and antisocial, she is ready to make a deal with the devil to find someone. It's not going well, her date looks like hell: aggressive red color, loud disturbing music. They don't speak much, she even pushes this person away. She's not ready to open up and take off that devil costume. But in the end, it appears her date is just a regular person hiding behind a mask (an antisocial person too). Can't explain the name Catscape though.

This animation makes me the happiest because it reminds me when I was in the hospital and had to watch my neighboring hospitalmates T.V because my room didn't have one. It feels so calming, the red diner. Its all amazing
It seems (to me) that the fears, guilt (represented by the holy figures) and beliefs of your inner self don't let you show who you really are, like if you are wearing a costume but you dont really notice it until someone else, who by the way is in the same position as you, makes you question whether you are who you think you are or not. To find out that it takes some screw it up, but then when you are all naked from what prevents you from being free it's finally time to rest on it a bit and start fresh new.
On the other hand it could've actually been her own reflection all along because there was nobody at home or the diner where "they" ate. The misfortunes of loneliness ? 🤔

I was honestly expecting something really bad to happen (besides satan taking away the girls eye) so the ending threw me off guard and I thought it was really cute 🥺
At first I thought it was about rape or internet trap......
Anyway, it ended up great, looks like a happy ending.
they were putting on a facade the other and there weretrying to compensate by putting on on for them as well. They are part of one persona as shown that one is wearing a suit and the other is wearing the mask. The one on the suit is also very isolated, they look over longingly to the TV screen of two people interacting with each other, they are socially out of touch. out of desperation they sign up for a niche dating site to get the human interaction they need but it's more so out of loneliness than need. There is desperation on both parties, the one in the suit goes from being all alone to being thrown into a big city with lots of people so uncomfortablity is to come. they meet up and there is a rush of cars between them symbolizing anxiousness and danger/lack of trust. then then both stare at the people on the TV back together while the onw with the mask pulls on the one with the suits hood to try and see the real them. it's also depicting how unrealistic love on the the internet is and when you meet online that the real you comes out. he brings her back Into reality by commenting on her costume, the representation of the chruch and demonic figures is a depiction of lusting for and lacking a sense of direction. in the end of the short they both let go of these online personas and fall into love rather than lust. the lust is a really big part of thi as you can see it being hinted at by the distortion of the audio in the restaurant. reds typically represent evil, fake, and deciteful, yellows represent anxiety and the blue is for uncertainty and sorrow. basically this short is depicting the reality of online dating and how lusting after people and putting on a show and trying to call external factors hence them trying to summon Satan won't work and it's better to be yourself and fall into love than to give into temptation.

I think this is the one. Great analysis. What do you reckon the blinded eye at the end means? Someone else made a compelling theory that it might mean turning a blind eye to some of the love interest's less than compelling attributes, but I'm unsure how it works with her summoning her lust out so to speak. It's likely her being or feeling burned by her own lust or actions from lust, and maybe because of it willing to not be so critical towards her love interest which can sometimes be a good thing? Sort of like half-blind trust stemming from her former hardship. After making the angel cry for her, looking out of the window instead of confessing, likely meaning she had made the decision to do something she thought the angel might find regretful, it's interesting how she was alone summoning the demon too, but it was in the love interest's room. That might be some kind of lustful encounter between the two where she maybe felt it was more a lonely or egoistic exercise based on lust rather than something real, hence her being there alone in his room. The last scene after shows them acknowledging that and finding each other despite the deviancy and layers of costumes from before.

They met and she feels insecure because she doesn't know him, she doesn't know if it's right for her to show who she is to him, because the person in front of her doesn't even try to talk about themselves; it's like he is wearing a mask. You can't see beyond. You can't see his true intentions.
The girl struggles between the thought of letting this person know her or just erase him before she discovers something she could regret. She talks about it, she hurts herself trying to descifer if she should trust a stranger.
After certain point, she decides to confront the person. She could've thought better the situation, stay safe, but she took the risk of him hurting her. She takes the mask off, they both take their hoods off. You can see their faces, but, most important, they can now see each other, they now know enough about their true faces.
Now, she feels safe.

I recognized what was on the tv almost instantly, my grandma watches Golden Girls every night
I have all seven seasons on DVD 😂 I watched it with my mother and grandmother as a kiddo and never lost my love for it. Plus it was so progressive for its time! Heck, even now, it's pretty forward-thinking. Bea Arthur (Dorothy Zbornak) was a huge LGBT+ activist in life, and even has a homeless shelter for LGBT+ folk named in her honour.

I'm amazed at how much atmosphere you crammed into this thing. Everything from the sound design, to the backgrounds, to the uncannyness of the different moments. Excellent.
for the sake of writing this, i'm going to call the two characters "devil" and "mask." satan will be referred to as satan.
the church is distant from the city. it's detached from the problems that the characters live through. the diner is even more distant from that. it's even more detached from the city and the problems of the people.
the isolation that both the church and the diner have from the densely populated city are incredibly important. the church is distant enough that devil can tell the church things they wouldn't tell other people.
when mask suggests that they meet irl, they first meet in the city. however, the issue with the city is that it's too close. it's too risky. neither mask nor devil feel safe enough to tell each other anything, and they even keep literal, physical distance during the meeting.
later, devil goes to the church to talk about what happened. however, they don't seem to say very much before seemingly being invited to meet at the diner with mask. honestly, it doesn't seem like devil really had much to say anyway.
devil telling the church about meeting mask implies that devil believes what they did in meeting mask was wrong. taking in the method in which they met, online communication, it would seem that devil believes that meeting people in that way is inherently wrong, so wrong that it defies god.
upon meeting mask in the diner, mask sees devil as being more than what they think they are. devil doesn't see themselves as wearing a costume, they just think that's who they are. mask sees through that. however, mask is still hiding themself behind a literal mask as well. mask sees beyond devil's self image that they've created. mask likely isn't even aware that they're hiding something about themself either.
the music in the diner sounds like a generic romance song you'd hear in any 90's movie where the guy gets the girl (though both characters here are androgynous). it implies that this is a date.
then, devil shares their favorite (i presume) past time with mask: watching the neighbor's sitcom (i think it's a sitcom, anyway). it's clear that devil doesn't like looking in their own room, or at their own belongings. mask continues the process of revealing who devil is, by taking off their hood. devil is made vulnerable, and forces mask to pull the hood back up.
devil appears at the church and makes the statue cry a bloody tear. i don't know what this imagery means to me. maybe it's devil abandoning the church?
that would appear to be the case, since the next scene is devil summoning satan. this is a very, very interesting scene to me. the devil is summoning itself. personally, i see this as devil self-reflecting after being made vulnerable earlier when mask points out their costume. satan brandishes a knife, because self reflection hurts.
the next scene is of devil and mask in the diner again. the music has changed, and is angrier. in the last diner scene, both characters had themselves hidden in one way or another. the music seemed to reflect the idea that they should have a "traditional" date, while this time around the music more honestly reflects devil's attitude.
devil has bandages on their face and over their right eye, which would appear to be wounds from the self reflection. however, they don't really seem harmed. they don't show any signs of feeling hurt. However, they take down their hood, revealing themselves to mask. they then mirror masks earlier motion and lift up their namesake. mask blushes, clearly not expecting to be made vulnerable either.
the two of them return to devil's home and lie in bed. while it's very easy to presume sex is implied between them, i don't think that's the case. both of them are still wearing things-- mask only took off their mask-- and they are sleeping with their heads facing opposite sides of the bed. admittedly, i'm asexual and so i'm more willing to read this as being a romantic, intimate moment where there is no sex to be had.
this video speaks to me about intimacy. i read it as being about meeting someone new and allowing yourself to trust them and reveal yourself to them, especially after they recognise you before you even recognised yourself.
this is just what i see. we all have different experiences, and i'm sure you might see something different too

Alright that's my interpretation:
The person number 1 wears a devil costume like if she/he could be a demon in the first look (mainly if you never truly knew this person), and the person number 2 wears a devil mask showing the complete opposite of person number 1, she/he is a normal person but shows himself as a danger. The person goes to church in order to show she/he purity but when she/he finally get to truly meet person number 2 she/he finally loses her/his fear of evil (seeing the devil himself) and when she/he finally does it she/he finally see under person number 2 threatening "mask". Well that's just how I saw it (and sorry for any of my English mistakes I'm from Brazil so it isn't my mother language)
