Narcissus becomes “enraptured” (captured by) his image - the image is in the water, which is constantly moved by the elements, so that the image is always coming in and out of reach, of clarity, and there lies the curse. “As long as he does not know himself” - no relating -

4 years old and unbelievably few comments for such a popular topic the last several years. That's unfortunate!

LOL at the one dislike being quite possibly the narcissist who thought their invisibility cloak was impenetrable. I've had so many moments listening to these podcasts where I looked up in pause wondering if I were listening to agent who'd read a file on me from a time no one could possibly know about. The satisfaction has mostly come from receiving some type of confirmation that I wasn't crazy or "wrong". This is further elevated by the ensuing advices given by you guys that help to respond/react more appropriately in the future.
Thank you so much for the contact and I'm hoping to be able to contribute to your cause in the future as thanks.

That being said, ive noticed that it comes from both over-caring and under-caring. They construct the false self, in the case of under-caring, to perform the same emotional validation.

My question is can the same person have a sway back and forth between moments where the narcissist with hurt those around them like objects to break with no care for them and other times or times of life where they seem their best and act with empathy?

If the person is malignantly narcissistic the change of behavior could be attributed to the shift of value in the other person. If those around the narcissist can be used as part of the "narcissistic supply" they will temporarily get attention. If the narcissist is in a less pathologic range their ego can shift away from the narcissist complex and be better related at times. Thanks for your question ~ Joseph

As a kid of narc parents, yeah, they can sway, from our perspective certainly.
It’s not a sway though, it’s calculated months and years in advance, but manifests in an instinctual way, which seems spur-of-the-moment.
If you were to give a child the masses of intelligence that comes with age, what would happen? They would certainly use their childish emotional structure to maximize their adult needs, and their adult emotional structure to maximize their child healing.
It’s a messed up situation, and I’m assuming that if you’re even thinking about this at all, it is absolutely happening in that problematic person. It’s really over-prevalent. The stats about it are off, narcissism itself is far higher than diagnosis rates, good luck getting one into therapy unless they’re rather mild lol.

They have people supply on the shelf for different kinds of supply (read hurt) . If you are in the sphere/realm of a narc be aware you are one of the shelf in that area of supply. It be basically means your not special at all (sorry) to a narc. They are sooo beyond.
      special.
      Get out ASAP

Definitions of narcissism are all over the place. Confusion with many other things. “It depends on how you define it,” from the video captures the pitfalls of the term. Of course there may be a few persons who fit the bill. “A profound lack” of...

Conversational vulnerable narcissist may show a puer style. Or puella style. Empty shell and deficient in many ego functions. They take to little responsibility in life and if antisocial features will steal, cheat on anyone. They deserve because their entitled. But their entitlement is a defense against their defense their dependency on others. Very often imposters.

I’d be VERY careful about the counter transference or empathy way of determining narcissism, as many neurodivergent individuals report having people feel a lack of empathy for them due to their mannerisms. Just a thought to keep in mind, there’s got to be more to their behaviors, not just instinct, for all we know you’re just hangry. 😅

Only able to see themselves as o.k. through the eyes of others f60.81. . they do have aspects of dependent personality and extremely codependent as they need others to view themselves as o.k. When the rage their shadow is seen and how they expoit others. Has a facade of sweetness but exhibits a lot of entitlement. Bpo kernberg, Masterson. Interpersonally exploitative.

The narcissist as CEO Vs surgeon, raw power over others Vs to channel an extreme education for others. Probably something Jungian here about the collective unconscious
