Before we set off the auto electrician doubted we'd have enough power for off grid. I have been pleasantly surprised how well we actually did. Even after 3 days straight if rain we still had enough power for our needs. We just learned to be purposeful with how we used power. Great information as always
Nothing wrong with sandwiches. . I hear them wingeing about , but I can’t cook in the oven . Oh please 😂 Carry a small Geni if you have a desperate need . And. The journey is the thing too, not just the end stops. Check out those little towns a spend a bit of time and money there.
Great to hear a man talk about his wife in such a positive way. We went free camping at NP and I use a CPAP machine and that was my biggest worry. But all went really well for the 4 nights we were there. Love your work.
Thanks Chappy. We have been full time for almost 5 months and have only done the odd night off grid. We are determined to do a lot more in the coming year. Thanks for the video.
Completely true mate. Mum , Dad and 4 kids . A Holden and a 20 ft van . Across the Nullarbor before it was surfaced. Oops nearly forgot the poodle named Jack. And back again. No job prospect in Perth then sadly. We had a ball. Ps only problem was a Vapor lock once on the way to .
Thanks. Was wondering if others had discovered that there is no need for massive and expensive batteries, solar panels and inverter that just adds weight and fuel cost. The so called "Off-Grid" vans are still being pulled by a vehicle that uses some other fuel besides Sunlight. Thanks for stating the obvious. Now we know we are no alone :)
Well spoken mate ,very encouraging, I’m going to have to train my wife she’s a little worried about the off grid thing . I will show her your video Love Blackall one of my favourites , and Winton and the hotel there Cheers from down south mate
I have another off grid video coming out in 2 weeks that show a couple of different free camps the wife will find of interest. All the best and cheers for watching and commenting.
A few more things to look out for off the top of my head is dead or weak heavy flowering branches over where you park especially if it looks like rain or storms.Secondly ,keep the pooch close by in case of 1080 baiting ,dingoes or snakes. And keep those special spots to yourself for nextime.
Great video, great information, thank you for sharing Arthur, Alison and Chappy. Loving your consistent effort showing us how much fun it is to travel Oz. Keep having fun. :)
Great advice, we started bush camping 2 years ago in a 18ft 20 year old van, bloody love it, all self sufficient for about 5 days at a time. We also travel with our Kelpie. WA based but have got across SA and VIC and working on the rest. If our paths cross i'd enjoy having a beer with you. Subbed as well.
Love your video mate, raw honest,I was wondering if you could test a few meat pies in your travels as a lot of small town make a bloody good meat pie, safe travels till next video.
Love watching your videos and your commentary. How do you go with Chappy went you go into malls etc where he is not allowed to go? Do you leave him in the caravan ? We have three small poodles and will be travelling soon too and was wondering what people do with their pets . Enjoy your travels and keep up the great videos. We love it 😊
Chappy is my registered service/assistant dog so he wear his jacket and all is good, this includes restaurants & National parks ( same privileges as a seeing eye dog. Cheers Connie.
Hi Arty,Alison and Chappy, some good tips for us (soon to be)newbies and we need all the help and advice we can get, thank you.We are looking forward to experiencing outback Queensland in the same way Slim Dusty did and wrote songs about towing the caravan with his purple ford fairlane to shows and rodeos. Thanks again and as always, safe travels.👍
Goes well with maybe a tiny bit of dust but it’s double sealed , no rattle I got it through peak 4x4 but if I was doing again I would probably but something else. Cheers
You forgot the toilet paper rule, its your using it bury it deep and your waste there nothing worse than pulling, getting out to smell and sight of some lazy campers waste...and stay hitched, keep your vehicle nose pointing to your exit & pack up inc the awning before going to bed , in case you need to leave quickly it far easier to just drive straight out esp if its an emergency...there are a few more unwritten rules of camping etiquette for next time
Yep, get out there, you don’t have to have the gear. We’ve got one battery, one solar panel, gas and a bed in the caravan to put our head down. Take it easy, get out there!!!! Great video, you’re a natural ole mate👌👌
Don’t agree you shouldn’t be burying paper or your waste as most people who do this don’t bury anywhere near deep enough. People doing this type of thing are the reason more and more free camps are disappearing.
i dig a deep hole with my post hole digger and use that as a toilet .One place in WA there so much toilet lying around i buried it all too --my good deed for the day.
Just Subscribed will go back have a look at some interesting content. Really enjoyed the Video thankyou. Have you been happy with your tow vehicle any problems.
Great vid buddy. Free isn’t just dodgey dusty places… Hey just wondering your thoughts on the snowy river van.. would you buy another one? Are you happy with it?
Bang for buck I would still by another one, Musso that is. I agree there are bigger motors out there but let’s be honest are you wanting to go extreme 4x4 ing or do you want to pull a van. We go anywhere we can take a caravan off road. 50,000 km and still no problems.
A few national/state parks and some Showgrounds won’t let you drop grey water on the ground in Victoria/NSW & QLD. Thanks for watching and look after yourself
It was a young healthy tree and the weather was calm with no winds , so after assessing I deemed it safe as really there was no other place safer but I do hear you
Sorry I didn’t mean like they are finished but the council owned ground ones are getting harder and harder due to cost cutting in up keep from councils and of course with the power to be’s wanting make a dollar so give it a decade or 2 and things will be different, please this is only my opinion, life is still a blast full time travelling. Cheers
@@ChappysTravelsalso of note is the increased number of vans on the road (like me!) so it’s getting harder to find a spot in the council owned grounds. They’re very busy.
Agree we hate camping around people and definitely are not caravan park people. I must say don’t agree with your comment on the off road vans. No offence intended but I guarantee you are not following us off road in that ute and van 😂
My home stomping grounds. You guys are georgeus kept it simple who needs the complicated things 😂
Love it, mate. You're living the dream

Just found your channel, really enjoyed it, thanks, I also live full time on the road and love the freedom of free camping. Cheers Judy
Good on you Judy and a big thanks, maybe catch you one day. Cheers and Welcome.

I do love and respect Alison and not afraid or to shy to announce it
Thanks Chappy. We have been full time for almost 5 months and have only done the odd night off grid. We are determined to do a lot more in the coming year. Thanks for the video.
We find it so gratifying

Gordon it’s a sell sell world and all these after market items are there for those who are excited.
I love my solar and lithium batteries 😅

winter not a problem --summer lots tie their pets up outside the shop in the shade or park in the shade.

Surprisingly we really enjoyed this part of Queensland but we seem to live every place we pull up at. Cheers for your feedback.
stay home and do not take a van on the road..just more parasites.
Live near Archer creek Mount Garnet is home
Hows that canopy on the ute going? Does it suck dust, rattle etc? Can you lock the tailgate? Just asking as I might get one.

Great point, as we are self contained I totally neglected that point

50,000 km an only problem is we are having sun roof switch replaced under warranty. Cheers
Great vid buddy. Free isn’t just dodgey dusty places…
Hey just wondering your thoughts on the snowy river van.. would you buy another one? Are you happy with it?
Rod, absolutely would but another one. I love the finish inside compared to others and like the Musso great bang for buck
Delete but insert buy
Awesome we are going to go check them out… what model is yours?
We like the look of the slide out models
What are your thoughts on the Musso? if you were in market for a replacement today what would you be considering?

Take me there and leave me there with the animals. Thank you.
Liked and subscribed. You did not mention being fully self contained (grey water?).. Do you find many spots that insist on that?
A few national/state parks and some Showgrounds won’t let you drop grey water on the ground in Victoria/NSW & QLD. Thanks for watching and look after yourself
Brillant
Thank you
id love to go long reach any day
It's longer to Longreach when you spell it like that.😂
@@colinl9018hahaha
@chappy how are you doing the filming backwards showing your 4WD and van? Drone or mounted Go Pro?
We have the GoPro on a ANKO ( Kmart ) selfie stick and put it either out the window or sunroof facing to the rear. Cheers
Can’t believe you camped under a big gum tree at the beginning of this video.
It was a young healthy tree and the weather was calm with no winds , so after assessing I deemed it safe as really there was no other place safer but I do hear you
Onya Chappy.
What is the name of the gardens you visited in what looks like a sink hole at 12:10 mark?
That was in my Gambier just over the SA border
What do you mean off grid camping won’t be around for long ?
Just my thoughts as I feel councils and state governments will want a dollar for having a good time or utilising great spaces.
Goodonya digger, what corp champ?
Sigs buddy
How do you know free camps are finished
