And every Kameo character seems to have had some kind of history with someone on the fighting roster. So every character you choose you can team them up with someone they’ve teamed up with before either in past games, comics or some other form of media.
I honestly would kind of agree bc the were a lot of characters like Stryker, kabal, and several others i just don't care about and we have all these deadly alliance and deception characters back now that were some of my favorites in those games
To finally have 3d era be represented well AND be a sizable part of the roster is a dream come true. We are eating soo good with mk1. Legit looking forward to see how big its kameo roster gonna look down the line,they are such a good idea
I appreciate the Deception and Deadly Alliance pulls for this go round. It’s like a clean up of the characters that people liked from the 3D era. Like if Kenshi, Frost and Bo Rai Cho were the first draft picks, Ashrah, Havik and Nitara are the second round picks. Like, I cannot WAIT to play Ashrah because I loved her in Deception.

Removing the special forces is what made this roster so amazing. The special forces story has ran its course, time for chaosrealm and netherrealm characters to take center stage
The trailers have actually heavily interested me in playing Ashrah. I liked her story and everything way back in the Armageddon era, and she honestly looks really cool to me. It would be cool to see them bring back more almost "lost era" characters like that. Hotaro, Li Mei, and hell this could be a way to potentially take another look at Shujinko with the time line do-over.
For me this roster really hits home since Mk Armageddon was my first fighting game as a lil guy growing up. Even to this day seeing Nitara again had me really happy and seeing the new versions of characters I already loved is making me feel hyped. To me this roster is a 10 but thats because EVERY fav character I have is in the game and they look fun and engaging
I was a little worried it was gonna be really safe again but this roster is like a perfect blend of legacy staples and characters who haven’t gotten to see the light of day in years. Basically everybody we’ve seen so far deserves to be in the game. My only problem is that playable characters can be kameos I feel like if sub scorpion and Lao weren’t there we could have even more room to include deep cut characters
I 100% agree with how he feels about Ermac. Character design makes or breaks what character I play with. Its the reason I suffered through Rain in MK 11.
I think the issue of not having a character that you’re excited about is just a personal thing. For someone like me who loves jade and kitana I was happy with 11 and it’s base roster. With mk1 I’m super excited because I have a few characters I want to play and even though I know I’m in the minority I liked shujinko back in deception. For those reasons I’m set for now lol. Also in X I mained takeda as well so I didn’t feel the same issues others did with the kombat kids. That being said I can understand those that do have issues, it really just boils down to personal preference and who you like which will be different for everyone.
MK9 came out with a fancy human Smoke and then they went and confined him back to robot. It's nice to have a human smoke back. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of MK gameplay, and MK9 smoke was thw one guy I enjoyed playing. So yeah, personal. Still, I barely played x and skipped 11 because there wasn't a human smoke. So happy he's back in 1. But I'm just not an MK guy in general, which I was able to realize eventually. I enjoy playing many guilty gear characters, I enjoy playing *one* MK character.
This is definitely best base roster in MK history outside of MK9. Feels even more diverse too, given that we have more eras represented here. I wanna make Kenshi my main in this, but I’m gonna give all of the ninjas, Havik, and Mileena a shot too before I settle into who my main is. That’s a lot of characters to play-and that’s a testament to how good this roster is.
Giving the Black Dragon and the Special Forces a break gave us back the best characters from the 3D Era. That along with the best original characters has turned this roster into my new favorite one of all time. While some may say that Armageddon can not be beaten, this is quality over quantity. So yes, I am in love with it.
Yeah Armageddon was so barebones compared to todays standard. Most characters had like 3 maybe 4 special moves if that. And a couple combo strings. Every character in mk1 is loaded with specials and kameos make the combo potential insane
I'm hoping Harada would understands that quality's matters over quantity. this is why I really hyped with Mk1 more than Tekken 8. especially in roster case
Mkx roster was far from bad. Yeah they were missing some favs but we got the kombat kids who were all dope. 11 was fucking awful, it was only 3 ninjas and shitty kollector and shinnok sister
There’s a handful of characters that I’m upset weren’t included, but I’m also happy with what we got. I don’t there’s a single bad pick on this roster, I like every character that they picked.
Only other character I can ask for is jade, don't know why but it feels odd having mileena and kitana but with no jade around, especially since their not that ugly revenant versions from mk11
I love the roster, there's so many characters I've been wanting for years that a re finally back in the game. That being said, Sonya and Jax missing feels kinds weird and I do like them.
You know this might be the Best MK Roster since MK9, the Only Thing that Bugs Me Out are the Mystery 24th Character and 16th Kameo and I do wish we got more than 25 Characters.
I feel like the mystery character could be either Kai or human cyrax because there was a leak saying that Travis Scott is going to voice a character just like how Megan fox is voicing natara
Roster is perfect, at least for someone that grew up on the old 2d and 3d/ps2 era. Building on the story is foreign to most fighting games, but to me them building or retelling what there story used to be is awesome. More kameos or less kameos I’m glad what we have can’t please everyone.
Cant beat MK9? Unfair to compare? Nah you absolutely can and its debatable. I think the roster is as good as MK9. It has characters Ive wanted playable again for years, and my boy Shujinko is back. MK9 was missing that.
Mk9 roster is literally just ultimate mortal Kombat 3 with Quan chi and cyber Subzero. It was fine for a nostalgia approach to help save the franchise but nothing else
This is a great starting roster. It suits all the demographics in the MK community. You get your 3D era characters, you get your robots and then you get cool guest character's like Homelander and Omniman. A solid 9.5/10
I gotta say this is the most fire roster in MK history, the PS2 era is back! 😭😭😭 There’s 2 characters left they need to show…it’s gotta be Jade and Noob that’ll round out the roster. I’d love to see MK1 characters tho, like brand new faces we never seen before. Hopefully soon, but I do like this game is a love letter to the old games good job Ed
The roster is truly incredible 1) several mainstays of MK with a fresh spin (Liu, Raiden, Kung Lao, Sub, Scorpion, Cage, Sindel, Shao, Baraka, Millena, Kitana) 2) some fan favorite characters return after a long hiatus and appear to have been given lots of love (Reptile, Reiko, Smoke, Rain, 3) the 3D Era is back in full force with some interesting overhauls that make them far more interesting 4) the other missing characters (Sonya, Kano, Jax, etc.) are Kameo's. 5) The OG 2D games are represented in the Kameo's as the designs for those characters are straight from those games and look amazing. 6) the casual market will be thrilled with the guest characters, Omni-Man and Homelander from their popular shows and John Cena being reprising the role of Peacemaker will catch a lot of wrestling fan's attention 7) We have a legit mystery character and kameo that has been hidden which honestly cool as hell. The Kameo is likely Kronika which makes sense as that would be a great role for her and if she still has some control of time that would be very cool Kameo and the mystery character is likely Kai as this would be a great time to reintroduce him
Ok, the thing about this is think about each character and what this reset did to each character, and who else did it affect I knew the moment they reset Raiden ik the Deadly Alliance/Deception time-lines me personally I'm seeing Shinnok's return and a Onaga Kameo
I would have liked to see some more UMK3 representation. Kabal (with a decent story arc this time that explored his good side) and Nightwolf (maybe as some kind of zoner this time) would have been my vote.
I have this weird-ass pipe dream where *Mokap* of all characters is brought back and his new twist is that he’s a researcher for the cyborg initiative, not necessarily for the Lin Kuei, just some kind of cyberization project. Like, we take the motion capture gimmick behind him and make him a puppet fighter, and the puppet is a cyborg test subject that mimics his movements. I know Mokap is super unpopular, but this idea is stuck in my head and I just had to talk about it.
That is a great idea. They made Stryker, a character who nobody liked, into a fan favorite character in MK9. They could totally make people love Mokap if they tried to bring him back as more than a joke character.

Yeah when it comes to what mk "needs" or opinions, Max's tend to be the worst lol To be fair, he plays fighting games as a whole so he's not exactly a hardcore mk fan that really understands what people like/want in MK. He has a small grasp, but overall he doesn't really understand the franchise

I haven’t bought an MK game in a while. But I’m going to get this one. To me it feels weird though that Kano, Sonya, and Jax aren’t playable characters. I’m happy to see Stryker as a Kameo, I played mk3 a ton as a kid, and he was one of my favorites
It's so cool to finally see so many 3d era characters get a second chance. Story wise, as much as I'll miss the special forces as lead characters, it's nice to see less appreciated characters get fleshed out more.

MK1 has one of the coolest rosters I've seen in a while. I'm honestly pretty hype about the content and the story, but I'm still gonna wait unti the Komplete Edition (or whatever) comes out
I'm excited as all hell. My first game was deception, and to see them bring back Asharah and especially Havik makes me incredibly giddy to use them. I was actually mad when they didn't put him in the last couple of games because of not only his actual importance to the lore in the comic series, but also the fact you get to defend chaos realm. Like seriously? He's the cleric of chaos. And the cameo thing would be like a crazy marvel assist I'd like to see how well it's implemented, also makes me curious what they are going to do with Shujinko
Mk 11 had a better roster than mkx,in my opinion, he keep saying a lot of people said that mkx had a better roster,who,most people i know said mk 11 had the better,mk 11 was a better game than mkx,to me,better roster, better stages, better costumes, better graphics,better story,and the people agree with me, it outsold mkx 3 million more,its crazy how max try to act like mk 11 wasn,t a great game to people,faster combos doesn,t mean a game is better,that,s the only thing mkx do better
It hurts not to have Kano...especially when i think of the possible redesigns and story directions. Special Forces will likely be a DLC pack, so i feel the MK11 Mileena suffering 😂

This game has already brought me and my brother closer together. We talk all the time now just about who we are going to play as first. This game is already a 10/10 for me.
I can't deny the fact that when it comes to Mk11 at the start, I actually didn't have anyone who I felt like was "the one for me", but after some time I ended up with Sub Zero and Jade (who I'm upset we don't have a base roster and/or cameo of her, we need her back) But with Mk1 I have more characters who got my attention (Smoke, Havik, Sub Zero, Johnny Cage and Geras, maybe Scorpion, Li Mei and Kenshi also) I haven't had the chance to play the game so that's why Some characters are in my list
I think the problem with mk 11 is the variations having all the moves available to a character makes it easier to bounce around and find fun characters
And NRS successfully managed to change general perception of said 3D characters for the better. I hated 3D era (always loved Kenshi and Quan Chi) but man these versions of the characters look incredible to me and have interesting depth to them
I would love to see a reiteration of Jax in this game if he can fit in that mystery character box. It would be dope seeing him as a high ranking officer in Order realm or something Lol I mean we already have Darrius
Im gonna be real, the kameos taking away so many long term mainstays as basically being backup dances is probably going to make the game incredibly polarizing. Like come on JAX and SONYA FUCKING BLADE arent even properly playable. That just fucking sucks.
One of my favourites is Kano so him just being a glorified combo extender while Geras is playable is wild to me. Hopefully the next game does away with the Kameos. There's much better ways to do a system like that, for example, removing it and just doing actual tag team fights is better IMO.

Assists but without actual tags is incredibly lame. especially when inevitably alot of people are gonna be disappointed with just how many long time favorites are no taken away for a system that will more then likely be turned into who can projectile spam the best for the majority of players.
Personally I love this roster and it's absolutely the best opening roster since Mk9 and it's not even close. I can't wait to get my hands on Reptile, Baraka, Johnny, Shao and Nitara.

I love this roster too, feels like a callback to the ultimate mk3 roster + all the forgotten fan favorites, I think Jax and Sonya can skip a game or 2 like how many of the other characters had to.
I mained Rain in MK9, and since he wasn't in MKX I mained Kenshi instead, then neither were in MK11 until a Kombat Pack where they introduced Rain but I had long since moved on...now both are base roster in MK11 which has never happened. Nuts.
I seriously thought the kameo roster was gonna be ENORMOUS... but it's smaller than the main roster. I'm with Max on this, it's very odd. Unless they have plans on releasing a new kameo quite often. I could also see them having kameo's unlocked in the game they just aren't showing atm.
She hardly ever contributes to anything in the story. Any story. And she doesn’t offer much in terms of gameplay either. I don’t hate her but it’s really not the end of the world that she’s not base roster.
Exactly. Sonya not being in it is not a big deal at all. The premier female characters are clearly Kitana and Mileena. Nobody is really playing Sonya. It's just an expectation for her to be there but nobody is really playing or excited for her character or her lore. She can definitely miss a game at this point especially with what happened to her in MK11 she can definitely take a break.
I love that we get 5 of the colored ninjas from the start. Glad to see smoke back after a while, rain back without having to buy him as dlc, and reptile with a human/ninja appearance. Also interested to see Kenshi but Im curious how similar/different he’ll be from his MKX version.
That's too much. They needed to only have Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The rest should've been added later on as DLC. I would rather take 3 unique characters than 3 ninja's. Kabal, Erron Black, and Quan Chi would've been far better.
As a man in his 30’s whose been playing since OG MK, in my honest opinion, this is one of the best base rosters we’ve had since MK9. LESS THAN A WEEK LEFT!!!! 🐉🔥
Hot take… best roster we’ve ever had, I joined the fan base in 2020, but ever since then, I’ve done a lot of research on the games, playing some of the older ones, and seeing so many characters from so many MK eras is awesome, even NRS era characters made it in, Geras and Kronika (side note: that last slot is Kronika, no doubt in my mind, I wish it was Hanzo Noob but it’s probably not). I came to this conclusion after I saw my boy Havik join the roster, I love Havik, he’s probably my favorite 3D era character, just because he looks cool and his abilities are unique. I know that Armageddon had ALL the MK characters, but most move sets and models are reused.

I'm not sure what Max was getting at with wanting more Kameo characters than playable characters, because I want the complete opposite. I'm glad there are more playable characters than Kameo characters, and I hope it stays that way.
I love that they're bringing back the 3D era characters and maintaining pretty much all of the fan favorite characters. My only real gripe is that Jax is a Kameo and not a base roster, but maybe he could be DLC? Regardless, I think this is my personal favorite Mortal Kombat roster.
In MK9/MKX/MK11 Sonya/Jax/Kung Lao was my mains No special forces/Kano being in main roster is a little weird for me, especially because ive played these games since the beginning. I also understand about 3D era getting there shine/just do too. I'm still excited regardless
Honestly think this is the best roster, great balance of character types and eras. Especially bringing back fan favorites like Smoke. I haven't seen many people disappointed.
My only gripe is that there are no cyborgs in the base roster. Outside of that, I'm genuinely happy with the characters we're getting. Maining Geras, General Shao and Ermac when he's released.
Because Shang Tsung is a pre-order bonus but also seems to be the main boss, I’m guessing that he’s a character you can unlock through the story. This has been done in other fighters and I think it makes a bit of sense, as otherwise I think it’s weird to lock him behind a paywall.
If a character is a pre-order bonus then you can't unlock 'em. As seen in MK11 with Shao Kahn. Frost you could buy for an early unlock but you can unlock her for free by beating Chapter 4. But again, she isn't a pre-order bonus. Edit: and you can buy Shang separately if you didn't pre-order at launch. Same thing with MKX, Injustice 2 and MK11. The pre-order characters are seperate purchases post launch.
I'm not exactly seeing many new additions this time around. Aside from the Kameo fighters, we seem to have a lot that have already had their time to shine in X and 11
Instantly want to play with Tanya. The fact she uses the coiling dragon staff as her weapon is sick. Cant wait to play the actual Lord Lui Kang in the main roster
Roster is impeccable & the technical advances they've made with mechanics & character elements makes each one equally inviting & fun to play No doubt, EVERY character looks interesting. I will be giving EVREYONE a go. Whereas before: I didn't give a fuck about Cage, Raiden, Liu Kang, Geras, Baraka, Shao, Sindel, etc... And I think that has to do with this game's iteration of these characters They all look compelling - they all look cool. They've removed a lot of the gothic elements that MK was so known for, but in doing so - they've made characters seemingly more likeable & inviting.
Personally, I think this would be the best base roster if Rain was swapped for Ermac(with a new design) and Jax and Sonya were main roster. At the same time though, I love the risks that they’re taking. Giving the 3D characters so much of a platform and sacking the SF/BD(not including Johnny)entirely is super risky in terms of casual fans, to the point that a lot of people might think they’re new characters. Can’t wait to see how this game is received.
I definitely agree with Max’s take on the Kameo size, I would have loved to see several more base Kameo slots since that is the main gimmick. Plus it gives more characters a chance to be seen without having to commit to a full main roster slot or dlc. Since ever character can play every kameo if I did my math right there is over 300 combinations of main/Kameo to pick from and will steadily grow with more dlc to choose from.
And since Kameos take less time to develop than full fledged characters, I can see us getting plenty of more bonus dlc Kameo packs than actually Kombat character packs to keep us busy
This roster is amazing and all I need is Kai and it's perfect for me. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the designs for some characters (Tanya, Nitara, Ermac, Shujinko)
Not really, maybe Jax since he was absent from Deception initially until he was added via MK: Unchained. Sonya has missed 2 games and Jade has missed out at least 4 games so far.

It's nice to have a human smoke back. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of MK gameplay, and MK9 smoke was thw one guy I enjoyed playing. So yeah, personal.
Still, I barely played x and skipped 11 because there wasn't a human smoke. So happy he's back in 1.
But I'm just not an MK guy in general, which I was able to realize eventually. I enjoy playing many guilty gear characters, I enjoy playing *one* MK character.
I wasn't that excited about mk1 until more of the roster came out, its really good there's a lot of characters I want to try, it won me over.
This is definitely best base roster in MK history outside of MK9. Feels even more diverse too, given that we have more eras represented here. I wanna make Kenshi my main in this, but I’m gonna give all of the ninjas, Havik, and Mileena a shot too before I settle into who my main is. That’s a lot of characters to play-and that’s a testament to how good this roster is.

No it isn't. MK10, and MK11 were far stronger than this game.
Giving the Black Dragon and the Special Forces a break gave us back the best characters from the 3D Era. That along with the best original characters has turned this roster into my new favorite one of all time. While some may say that Armageddon can not be beaten, this is quality over quantity. So yes, I am in love with it.
Yeah Armageddon was so barebones compared to todays standard. Most characters had like 3 maybe 4 special moves if that. And a couple combo strings. Every character in mk1 is loaded with specials and kameos make the combo potential insane
I'm hoping Harada would understands that quality's matters over quantity. this is why I really hyped with Mk1 more than Tekken 8. especially in roster case

There’s a handful of characters that I’m upset weren’t included, but I’m also happy with what we got. I don’t there’s a single bad pick on this roster, I like every character that they picked.

I love the roster, there's so many characters I've been wanting for years that a re finally back in the game. That being said, Sonya and Jax missing feels kinds weird and I do like them.

You know this might be the Best MK Roster since MK9, the Only Thing that Bugs Me Out are the Mystery 24th Character and 16th Kameo and I do wish we got more than 25 Characters.

Roster is perfect, at least for someone that grew up on the old 2d and 3d/ps2 era. Building on the story is foreign to most fighting games, but to me them building or retelling what there story used to be is awesome. More kameos or less kameos I’m glad what we have can’t please everyone.

Mk9 roster is literally just ultimate mortal Kombat 3 with Quan chi and cyber Subzero. It was fine for a nostalgia approach to help save the franchise but nothing else
This is a great starting roster. It suits all the demographics in the MK community. You get your 3D era characters, you get your robots and then you get cool guest character's like Homelander and Omniman. A solid 9.5/10

The roster is truly incredible
1) several mainstays of MK with a fresh spin (Liu, Raiden, Kung Lao, Sub, Scorpion, Cage, Sindel, Shao, Baraka, Millena, Kitana)
2) some fan favorite characters return after a long hiatus and appear to have been given lots of love (Reptile, Reiko, Smoke, Rain,
3) the 3D Era is back in full force with some interesting overhauls that make them far more interesting
4) the other missing characters (Sonya, Kano, Jax, etc.) are Kameo's.
5) The OG 2D games are represented in the Kameo's as the designs for those characters are straight from those games and look amazing.
6) the casual market will be thrilled with the guest characters, Omni-Man and Homelander from their popular shows and John Cena being reprising the role of Peacemaker will catch a lot of wrestling fan's attention
7) We have a legit mystery character and kameo that has been hidden which honestly cool as hell. The Kameo is likely Kronika which makes sense as that would be a great role for her and if she still has some control of time that would be very cool Kameo and the mystery character is likely Kai as this would be a great time to reintroduce him
tbf Rain has appeared in 9, X in story mode and 11 so he hasn't sitted any NRS game yet, i don't mind him being around tho
Ok, the thing about this is think about each character and what this reset did to each character, and who else did it affect I knew the moment they reset Raiden ik the Deadly Alliance/Deception time-lines me personally I'm seeing Shinnok's return and a Onaga Kameo

I would have liked to see some more UMK3 representation. Kabal (with a decent story arc this time that explored his good side) and Nightwolf (maybe as some kind of zoner this time) would have been my vote.
I would have loved to see more non-ninja/shao lin Earthrealmers. Maybe they are more boring than other options, but I always gravitated towards them.

I have this weird-ass pipe dream where *Mokap* of all characters is brought back and his new twist is that he’s a researcher for the cyborg initiative, not necessarily for the Lin Kuei, just some kind of cyberization project. Like, we take the motion capture gimmick behind him and make him a puppet fighter, and the puppet is a cyborg test subject that mimics his movements. I know Mokap is super unpopular, but this idea is stuck in my head and I just had to talk about it.
That is a great idea. They made Stryker, a character who nobody liked, into a fan favorite character in MK9. They could totally make people love Mokap if they tried to bring him back as more than a joke character.

I haven’t bought an MK game in a while. But I’m going to get this one. To me it feels weird though that Kano, Sonya, and Jax aren’t playable characters. I’m happy to see Stryker as a Kameo, I played mk3 a ton as a kid, and he was one of my favorites
It's so cool to finally see so many 3d era characters get a second chance. Story wise, as much as I'll miss the special forces as lead characters, it's nice to see less appreciated characters get fleshed out more.

there is roster that leaked in july and its been 100% correct so far and the only unrevealed characters on the list now are reiko and sonya

MK1 has one of the coolest rosters I've seen in a while. I'm honestly pretty hype about the content and the story, but I'm still gonna wait unti the Komplete Edition (or whatever) comes out
I'm excited as all hell. My first game was deception, and to see them bring back Asharah and especially Havik makes me incredibly giddy to use them. I was actually mad when they didn't put him in the last couple of games because of not only his actual importance to the lore in the comic series, but also the fact you get to defend chaos realm. Like seriously? He's the cleric of chaos. And the cameo thing would be like a crazy marvel assist I'd like to see how well it's implemented, also makes me curious what they are going to do with Shujinko

This game has already brought me and my brother closer together. We talk all the time now just about who we are going to play as first. This game is already a 10/10 for me.
I can't deny the fact that when it comes to Mk11 at the start, I actually didn't have anyone who I felt like was "the one for me", but after some time I ended up with Sub Zero and Jade (who I'm upset we don't have a base roster and/or cameo of her, we need her back)
But with Mk1 I have more characters who got my attention (Smoke, Havik, Sub Zero, Johnny Cage and Geras, maybe Scorpion, Li Mei and Kenshi also)
I haven't had the chance to play the game so that's why Some characters are in my list

And NRS successfully managed to change general perception of said 3D characters for the better. I hated 3D era (always loved Kenshi and Quan Chi) but man these versions of the characters look incredible to me and have interesting depth to them

Im gonna be real, the kameos taking away so many long term mainstays as basically being backup dances is probably going to make the game incredibly polarizing. Like come on JAX and SONYA FUCKING BLADE arent even properly playable. That just fucking sucks.
One of my favourites is Kano so him just being a glorified combo extender while Geras is playable is wild to me. Hopefully the next game does away with the Kameos. There's much better ways to do a system like that, for example, removing it and just doing actual tag team fights is better IMO.

I mained Rain in MK9, and since he wasn't in MKX I mained Kenshi instead, then neither were in MK11 until a Kombat Pack where they introduced Rain but I had long since moved on...now both are base roster in MK11 which has never happened. Nuts.

I seriously thought the kameo roster was gonna be ENORMOUS... but it's smaller than the main roster. I'm with Max on this, it's very odd. Unless they have plans on releasing a new kameo quite often. I could also see them having kameo's unlocked in the game they just aren't showing atm.

The premier female characters are clearly Kitana and Mileena. Nobody is really playing Sonya. It's just an expectation for her to be there but nobody is really playing or excited for her character or her lore.

That's too much. They needed to only have Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The rest should've been added later on as DLC. I would rather take 3 unique characters than 3 ninja's. Kabal, Erron Black, and Quan Chi would've been far better.

Hot take… best roster we’ve ever had, I joined the fan base in 2020, but ever since then, I’ve done a lot of research on the games, playing some of the older ones, and seeing so many characters from so many MK eras is awesome, even NRS era characters made it in, Geras and Kronika (side note: that last slot is Kronika, no doubt in my mind, I wish it was Hanzo Noob but it’s probably not). I came to this conclusion after I saw my boy Havik join the roster, I love Havik, he’s probably my favorite 3D era character, just because he looks cool and his abilities are unique. I know that Armageddon had ALL the MK characters, but most move sets and models are reused.

I'm not sure what Max was getting at with wanting more Kameo characters than playable characters, because I want the complete opposite. I'm glad there are more playable characters than Kameo characters, and I hope it stays that way.
I love that they're bringing back the 3D era characters and maintaining pretty much all of the fan favorite characters. My only real gripe is that Jax is a Kameo and not a base roster, but maybe he could be DLC? Regardless, I think this is my personal favorite Mortal Kombat roster.

It is strange that there doesn't seem to be a single new character at the moment. DLC spots will probably be saved for old fan favorites.
My only gripe is that there are no cyborgs in the base roster. Outside of that, I'm genuinely happy with the characters we're getting. Maining Geras, General Shao and Ermac when he's released.

Because Shang Tsung is a pre-order bonus but also seems to be the main boss, I’m guessing that he’s a character you can unlock through the story. This has been done in other fighters and I think it makes a bit of sense, as otherwise I think it’s weird to lock him behind a paywall.
If a character is a pre-order bonus then you can't unlock 'em. As seen in MK11 with Shao Kahn. Frost you could buy for an early unlock but you can unlock her for free by beating Chapter 4. But again, she isn't a pre-order bonus.
Edit: and you can buy Shang separately if you didn't pre-order at launch. Same thing with MKX, Injustice 2 and MK11. The pre-order characters are seperate purchases post launch.

They all look compelling - they all look cool. They've removed a lot of the gothic elements that MK was so known for, but in doing so - they've made characters seemingly more likeable & inviting.

Personally, I think this would be the best base roster if Rain was swapped for Ermac(with a new design) and Jax and Sonya were main roster. At the same time though, I love the risks that they’re taking. Giving the 3D characters so much of a platform and sacking the SF/BD(not including Johnny)entirely is super risky in terms of casual fans, to the point that a lot of people might think they’re new characters. Can’t wait to see how this game is received.

I definitely agree with Max’s take on the Kameo size, I would have loved to see several more base Kameo slots since that is the main gimmick. Plus it gives more characters a chance to be seen without having to commit to a full main roster slot or dlc. Since ever character can play every kameo if I did my math right there is over 300 combinations of main/Kameo to pick from and will steadily grow with more dlc to choose from.
And since Kameos take less time to develop than full fledged characters, I can see us getting plenty of more bonus dlc Kameo packs than actually Kombat character packs to keep us busy
This roster is amazing and all I need is Kai and it's perfect for me. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the designs for some characters (Tanya, Nitara, Ermac, Shujinko)
You tripping this roster is everything most people wanted perfect 10/10
Usually go straight for the familiar with MK, feel like MK1 has got me excited to try ALL of the base roster and that doesn’t usually happen for me.
It feels wrong to have a base playable roster in an MK game without Sonya Blade, Jax, and Jade!
Not really, maybe Jax since he was absent from Deception initially until he was added via MK: Unchained. Sonya has missed 2 games and Jade has missed out at least 4 games so far.
