    Spent a peaceful nite at Dobbin's Is on our way home N to 1000 Is (Trident Yacht Club) in Capellac (C&C LF 38) in 2004 after 6+ years S. We too had a peaceful nite!

    Hi Alan.
    As much as I love to see your sailing I'd love to see you doing businesses aboard like cooking your meals, the actual voyage planning etc. Living and working aboard in full respect of your privacy of course.
    Bon voyage! Fair winds and following seas!

    One nice thing about the Chesapeake is that the tidal range is pretty small, so you don't need to leave much extra space for it. I hope you leave time to poke around other places. St. Michael's is well worth a stop, and the Little Choptank is fun. St. Leonard's Creek off the Patuxent, Smith Creek and the St Mary's River off the Potomac, Tangier Island, Reedville has a little museum, the Rappahannock River....countless wonderful places.

    Hi Allan, if you have got the time, go to Onancock, a really beautiful place in East Virginia, when you get there, you ll know, why..
    Happy sailing.

    Nice peaceful relaxing anchorage. Good way to re-charge the "sea batteries" in your head.

    A few year ago i sailed across Chesapeake Bay, we were in a marina right at the bottom, regretfully i cant remember the name of it, but we left there bound for Norfolk VA, we passed lots of piles, most of them were occupied by nesting Ospreys, coming from England, this impressed me a great deal,
    Fair winds Skipper ⛵

    Best video yet Alan. Great pics of Wave Rover II. She’s a real beauty and looks completely able to handle all you request of her. I especially enjoy your detailed observations of your surroundings. Continue to pray for all God’s blessings on your voyages.

    Nothing like a good overnight in an anchorage to sort the boat routine and head out in calm conditions. Thanks for sharing Alan.

    I'll probably be meeting an old friend in Shady Side to go sailing on Saturday, but I expect you'll be gone by then. Best wishes for fair winds!

    I am not a sailor but I do love your channel.
    The curiosity or question I have is this… is a dingy a requirement and do you have a dingy on your sailboat?
    Now crack on. 👍

    Another Great Video Alan! My wish for you is that sometime in the distant future you will return to the Chesapeake and enjoy the thousand equally beautiful anchorages that this magnificent estuary holds within its 3500 miles of shoreline. Thanks for taking us along

    Looks so peaceful 🤙that bird may have been an osprey as their heads are white and they're big lol. I couldn't believe 7 ft of water way out in the middle. That northeast bay with shallow flats. It's why they made the catboat with no keel. The weather has finally turned to summer. You're not bundled up here lol. Thanks Alan and hope to see you sooner than later! Stay safe and take care for now👍😁🙏

    It’s great to see you underway again. That anchorage was delightful. Looking forward to your Annapolis update … I really enjoyed my visits there when my work had me travelling to DC. Hope you have some delicious crab cakes!

    Another great video. Those birds nesting in the channel markers were most likely osprey. They are mistaken for bald eagles often. They have the same mate for life and return to the same nest every year.

    Osprey love to nest on channel markers. Awesome predator

  • @crufflerdoug
    @crufflerdoug 3 місяці тому +2

    That first bird was likely an osprey (like the ones you saw at the next marker) if it was nesting that close to the water. They can look a lot like eagles from a distance.

    "I'd love to spend another couple of days here..." NO you wouldn't. It's a HOT MESS on the weekend. But you aren't wrong that spot is very nice. Kept my Ericson 29 in a small creek to the north of you. Actually anchoring at Dobbins Island was my VERY first single hand experience. I think maybe I might go back for a visit on my current vessel.

    I enjoy following your adventures, as well as the build. I like watching DIY boat projects. The white headed bird on the channel marker was more likely an Osprey. There are eagles about, but not as likely to use markers along the water. Good sailing, and I’ll be following you.

      Eagles aren't fond of Ospery. They harass the adults and attack the Ospery's nests. In my area of NS, due to people feeding the Eagles, they have swelled in numbers and displaced the Osperys.

    Gibson Island is an exclusive private island accessed by a private man-made causeway. I've anchored there many times in the "harbor" near the causeway. Quiet and protected but can get crowded.

    What's the best way to track your progress during the crossing? Will you be uploading waypoints online?

    • @allgonquin
      @allgonquin 3 місяці тому

      You can track Alan using one of the Marine tracking apps like "Marine Traffic". Just search on "Wave Rover II". However note that the location shown on these apps will often be a few to several days late. Why? Because I'm sure that Alan's AIS equipment (Automatic Identification System) equipment is not equipped to send signals to satellites, so his location probably only registers in the AIS system when he is in proximity to another (probably much larger) vessel which has satellite capability. So his AIS sends a "local" signal out so that other ships nearby can "see" him on their AIS screens and he can see them, but typically the range is short, like less than 25 miles. Right now the last "fix" for Alan is from the morning of June 3 and shows him maybe 3/8 of the way to Horta in the mid Atlantic.

    Can someone please explain to me why sailors in North America dress up like Spiderman? I've never seen that here in Europe. I'm guessing UV protection?
    Would be cool if you had a full-body green one and used the green screen technique during editing to make you look like a ghost sailor.
