I am so grateful to have been able to attend all those early games at Lang Park.
I remember Gene slamming into Greg Bretnell to score that try. We were right in line with the Boyd tackle and heard the sickening sound, watched Wally signal to bench that his Jaw was broken and then before he left the field, the Big Marn pulled off a huge and courageous tackle on a poor NSW player on the other side of the field.
For a footballer Geno has aged well, he could definitely star in a Kevin Costner/Clint Eastwood Western these days.
I can only thank God and Senator Ron that they never got to Play for Manly (Warringah anyway).

It was and was acceptable at the time, however, the NSWRL (or NRL?) soon put a stop to them.
