Hi, I've made a basket before but had to follow it in a foreign language. I also worked out a way of joining without slip stitching and getting the pattern to continue, so it was invisible. It was fantastic to see your video in English and so well explained, thank you for your talent and time. I would like to know what size/stitches for base to make for a dolls moses basket as my granddaughter would love one for Christmas. Many thanks xx
Hi Denise! I am so glad you found my video in English, woohoo. You're very welcome. For a doll I would probably cut the size of the base in half, however that would effect the pattern you do for the sides. As long as you have an even amount of stitches it should work out for the pattern but you'd have to play with it a bit. The written pattern says to do 11 rounds for the base, so try to do 6 rounds and stop there and see how that works. I may have to add this to my list of patterns to create, great idea. Happy hooking!
Using a wooden base or another type of base that you can find online is definitely going to help. The only problem with the bases that they sell for these baskets is you're stuck with the size of the base, but it works to stabilize the shape! Another idea is you could crochet around plastic canvas, so while you are crocheting crochet also around the canvas and cover it up - that is a bit trickier. I would NOT recommend dipping this in sugar water or spraying starch or glue, that will change the weight and color and texture of the yarn - it's horrible.
Oh yes please do parts 2, 3,4. Is this going to be strong enough to carry the baby in it from room to room or do I need to purchase a price of wood with wholes pre cut?
I would hold the bottom when carrying the baby from room to room in it, it's really something that you would leave in one of the rooms to use. ua-cam.com/video/nwk3ID5IIMg/v-deo.html
I used just 4 coordinating colors from Hoooked- their colors change and are not static on their website because they make the t-shirt yarn based on leftovers from the fashion industry, so the colors I used you won’t find the exact ones on their website but something similar
Hi! This pattern is without the wooden base, it's not necessary. If you do use a wooden base that pretty much changes the whole pattern. The benefit is your basket will be lighter and more sturdy. For this version instead once you put the mattress in there it's fine but I always keep this on the floor :)
It could be that your t-shirt yarn is stretchy or not the same as the t-shirt yarn from Hoooked. The t-shirt yarn I used was medium stretchy as they call it, so it's quite firm. A smaller hook always helps as well. Try to make a small basket as a trial and see how stiff it is, playing around with a different hook to see the tension. You can always crochet around plastic canvas squares for the sides, that is a big trick if you're not able to get the stiffness you want. I would choose that over dipping in glue, sugar water, or starch spray any day!
hi Ghosia, I got 5 skeins of t-shirt yarn for the different colors - you will have a lot of yarn leftover for accessories. Each skein from Hoooked is 131 yards or 800 grams.
You can! It may be really tight and hard on the hands just FYI. The good thing about using a smaller hook like that with t-shirt yarn is the sides will stand up really stiff.
I used 5 skeins of t-shirt yarn (which gave me plenty of left over yarn. All details specifically listed in the pattern ua-cam.com/video/nwk3ID5IIMg/v-deo.html

Jess, thank you for sharing this tutorial. It is appreciated! Can you tell me the measurement in inches for the base?
Thank you😃
Hi Joan! If you go to 37 minutes into the video I showed measuring the base, it was about 11.5 x 27.5 inches :)
Can you crochet them with cotton yarn
Can I make this any other yarn means macrame and all
