Judith Butler is so wrong in claiming that all gendered behaviour is just a social invention and arbitrary. One example is same-sex intimacy and the way men and women relate to bodies.
Women are not afraid of intimacy of any kind yet men are said to have been trained by "society" to be emotionally detached. Have you ever thought that maybe the erection in men has something to do with the way they relate to their body and the bodies of others?
People like Butler, who don't know how to think, always blame society, whoever that is, for everything. The men that wrote the Bible condemned homosexuality not because God told them but because making homosexuality a sin was the only way to deal with the shame they felt about same-sex intimacy.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts @viejolincanada! You bring up some really interesting points about intimacy and how men and women relate to their bodies-definitely a lot to unpack there. For sure. Judith Butler’s ideas always spark debate, and it’s cool to see how different perspectives come into play.
TLC would love to know-what other topics or questions like this would you be interested in exploring? We're always looking for ideas for future content, so feel free to share!

This is why I don't think of masculinity and femininity as "preformative". Instead, "being male" is the experience of living in a male body and adjusting to the body. It is not society prohibiting men to show emotions but a self-censoring act to prevent shame. Similarly with "being female".
No man can ever be the same as a female because of the lived experience in a male body.
