Dang it, Ellen Greene just blows this out of the park. What makes her perfect is the totality of her imperfections. She embodies everything contradiction each one of has which makes her so relatable. Bravo, Ms. Greene. You are a goddess among the torch song singers of all time.
That's a tough act. I can only imagine how difficult it is to sing as Ellen Green did. A forced lisp, controlled belting, strategic dynamics, with emotions while hitting the right notes. If that's easy, you're crazy. She's not amazing. She's incredible.
Ellen Greene is brilliant. I saw the show when it was off-Broadway at the Orpheum back in the 80's and I've seen the movie a bunch of times. But this performance brought a tear to my eye. Just wonderful.
Thank you for posting this! There are rumors they're trying to get her back to play Audrey again for the Off-Broadway production that's still running in NYC, and I really hope it comes to fruition. She's an absolute icon, and it would be amazing to see her again.
Are you serious? That’s would be incredible 🤩 It’s been a while since she’s been in the public eye probably cause she’s slowly been retiring but if she ended her career off with her playing Audrey one last time it would be so amazing
Not to rain on the parade, but I am highly skeptical about this rumor. It was peddled by SweatyOracle who said the production would close in January 2025….tickets are onsale into 2026. Further, after the Encores production she tried to develop a revival that incorporated elements from the movie, but that was squashed by the Howard Ashman estate, who was in negotiations with a producer. So I highly doubt Ms. Greene would have any interest in involvement with the current production.m
@@williammclean5897 She tried to start a revival and they shut her down?? That’s not cool 😭 Yeah I can see why she wouldn’t want to be in the 2019 revival because of that but one can dream 😮💨
@greenesmyfavcolor9742 In short, it was a revival with a reworked "darker" script by Frank Oz and Ellen, that would have blended aspects of the original musical and the 1986 film. By the time they approached Howard's estate, there were no producers attached to the idea while the estate was already in negotiations with "a major producer" for a major revival (likely the one currently running.) They're also incredibly protective of Howard's work given how protective and opinionated Howard was himself, so it's also possible they weren't on-board with a reworked/rewritten script.
Live stage production here at Theatre Memphis is a fave revival. The "Audrey II" plant puppet is so well done, and the best casting for a community theatre. See it live...
I was lucky to see the show in 1983 at the Westwood Playhouse... It is a treasured memory... Thank you for posting this from the same era. Wow... 41 years ago...
I never knew or don't remember Ellen Greene did the stage play. I did see the original play in grammar school in New York but don't remember if she was in it. But I remember the movie the most, saw it a dozen times at least. The funny thing is I do remember the other actor who played Seymour in the play. But I can't imagine anyone else but Rick Moranis or Ellen Greene playing these roles, they were too good.
Perfect from Ellen! Such emotion, there are literal tears running down her face. Going to see LSOH in December, think I’m going to be disappointed when Audrey isn’t her 😅
I'm so glad that you found a higher quality version of this broadcast! I've had a later-generation copy for a long time but this is a million times better than my copy!
Hey, nice appearance from Carl Reiner at the start there! (Noted from the separate Lee & Ellen interview video that he's promoting The Man With Two Brains).
Ellen Greene is one of those actresses that should have had a more prolific career. She's been in some great movies besides Little Shop; Talk Radio, Pump Up The Volume. I can't remember others off hand. Not that familiar with her stage work besides Little Shop of Horrors but something tells me she's done a. A few musicals. She had an incredible voice and obvious range. How she can go from an almost cartoonish style voice in the Audrey role high pitched siren in the vein of someone like Ellen Foley was astounding.
Ellen infused her singing with emotion. The way she pronounces every word and moves her voice up and down is unreal. I think this performance showed a lot more broad strokes in her expressions and movements that would've been appropriate for the stage, but definitely got toned down in the movie.

You can hear her sadness, you can see it in her eyes. Amazing! Bravo!
The passion is devastating. My god what a performance.
So glad Ellen was able to recreate Audrey in the movie- she's funny, dynamic and breaks your heart.

I don't know why this just randomly showed up in my suggested, but damn-that woman can sing.
You have to watch the whole movie now.
Please watch the movie. It's so good. It's very unique. One of a kind.

I do believe...that...Ellen Green is 73 years old now....that might change the dynamics of the relationship? But wow!

I never ever get tired of Miss Ellen Green in this role !
I love that even before the movie made her performance the mainstream standard, they knew she was the best actor to use when advertising

Can’t imagine singing next to her! You would have been upstaged. She was a dynamo!

Awesome! That was before my time, but I can't believe I missed the repeat in 2015!!! 😭 I watched the movie so many times on Comedy Central as a kid.

Her & Swoosie Kurtz were great as sisters in the tv series " pushing up daisies".
Love you Ellen❤️
Yeeees!!!😊
To me, personally, I will always think Ellen Greene's performance in this show was one of the most iconic performances ever.
Even during the monologue she has tears in her eyes
Wow!! This is an amazing clip. I've loved the movie ever since I saw it. Seeing Ellen Greene perform that live on stage must have been unforgettable.
So emotional 🥹🥹🥹
The best ever Audrey ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ellen Greene is mesmerizing! ❤❤❤

Her voice is unbelievable, absolutely f incredible
Thank you for finding all these gems from this amazing show, so great to see all the stuff I never saw, but, I've loved this show since the mid-80s.
I love, love, love, love Ellen.
Just beautiful!
She makes it look so easy. ❤️

WOWWWWWW!
Production on this is Off the Charts ❤❤❤
lovely to see this.

It’s pronounced “azaleas.”
OMG That was amazing!
Thank you sooooo much for posting this. In the movie, you don’t get to watch her sing the whole song. They cut to shots of what she’s singing about.
Why Little Shop Archive is cooking so much these days🙏
I don’t know but I’m here for it
Audrey resembles my late grandma so i always get a little extra emotional
Loved her on the walking dead as a nurse.
high quality as fawwwk! did you guys get this straight from the carson group?
The blueprint for all other Audrey to follow…but none have this pathos. She IS audrey.
