Saw Sam at the Rennie MacIntosh Church venue in Maryhill, Glasgow at Celtic Connections earlier this year -!he blew the roof off. Such a gifted musician.
We saw Sam Sunday night in Portland Maine, he played walking boss... you might need to go see Sam if he gets within say 500 miles...seriously! He is backed by a unbelievable jazzy guitar player Tom Gahill? who has such a unique sound and a style reminiscent of Nels Cline... his drummer is soo jazz as well, really fantastic show.
It is mixed down kinda low, but I think it was on purpose due to the keep the sound as close a possible to the folky roots of the tune and to keep the emphasis on the banjo.

Bill sounds great here! Super smooth and just the right volume.
This makes electric guitar an old-time music instrument. Extremely classy!
Really into the emotion of these tunes!

This is the song that introduced me to Sam via loving the Meat Puppets version of this song and searching for other versions.
