    Great review! We are going to switch too. I feel the same way about TGTB so many times we have to rewatch videos. We have about 20 lessons left and I am counting down the days 😂😅

    My daughter is taking saxon Algebra 1/2 through her coop, but once we move from this area, I'm sure going to need Nicole, the math lady, to take over 😄. Great review, thanks.

    Thank you! I think I'll finish out 3rd grade with gatb and then switch to Saxon in 4th with the original saxon books and Nicole the math lady! Good plan! Thank you!

    I'm considering switching my eldest over to Saxon for 4th grade but from what I've gathered, the only editions that were written by Saxon are 1st-3rd and the company that owns it now has changed the newer editions. I'm finding the 2nd edition book used, but I can't find the workbooks or answer key. I wish they were still in print.

    I switched 3 weeks ago to Saxon after hearing your daughter didn’t like the fluff in TGATB because that was exactly my 4th grade son 😂
    Changing mid-year stressed me out at first but I just kept giving him the the tests until he started getting the same section problems wrong so we started at lesson 35 🤷🏻‍♀️
    He is truly loving it and Nicole the math lady rocks!
    Paying the extra $20 for grading was the best decision I have made yet 😂

      Switching can be stressful!! Glad it’s working out so far! I think we started around lesson 20 but we have to go back sometimes to review prior lessons which is why I love that it tells us what lesson it was taught in ☺️

    Is there somewhere I can go to see a list of concepts taught in Saxson 4?

    I've been hearing such great things about Nicole the Math Lady. Might have to try her out one day. However, over an hour on math most days seems like a lot. Do you think that is because you guys are fitting everything into 3 days? Or do you think that would be the typical time frame for most kiddos? Thanks for sharing as always!

    • @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool
      @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool  Рік тому

      It would be typical because we are just completing 1 math lesson ☺️

      We were spending over an hour doing all the problems- such a struggle so we switched to Math U See with amazing results. My math hating 5th grader has no more attitudes:)

      The amount of time lesson takes is comparable to TGAB, atleast when my daughter was in 3rd grade. She is in 5th grade and spends 30-45 minutes on her math lessons

    So if you use Nicole the math lady do you need the teacher manual or you can just get the student book ?

    • @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool
      @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool  Рік тому

      The teachers guide has all the answers, so with my older daughter I like having it if I need to help her with finding the answers or review a lesson. I would recommend buying it used as you don’t use it a lot of you are also using Nicole the math lady

    One thing I’m struggling with is my son doesn’t write out the problems…he literally just solves them in his head. So I’m still trying to decide if I force him to write them out or just let his math brain keep trucking along until he is forced by the curriculum to write them out 😂

    • @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool
      @gatheredandgroundedhomeschool  Рік тому +3

      Might sound mean, but I wont help my daughter unless I see her work. So really only if she is getting it wrong she has to show me her work. That’s so i can understand what she is doing wrong.
      I’m sure she is doing some in her head which is fine because she is getting those correct ☺️

      My son started with 5/4 and now is on 7/6. When we first started 5/4, he was in 3rd and we had the same issue, so I did write out every problem (I know that is a lot) but it helped avoid him trying to do everything mentally. Now in 7/6 he writes them himself. I know some people skip problems to make the lesson shorter but after 3 yrs I do not skip problems, because I believe the mixed practice is critical to reviewing and retaining past concepts

      My son (5th grade) uses teaching textbooks and he does all the problems in his head too. If he gets one wrong, I write it down in a notebook and we do it together on Fridays as his “math review” and then he writes it out, so I can double check he understands it!

    • @sarahbennett7235

      This is so funny- my son was the same thru algebra 1/2. After that I made him write them out. Algebra 1 he struggled an Algebra 2 was a fail- we switched to math u see and backtracked to Algebra 1 and he is getting all A's. Algebra 1 and 2 include geometry credit and I think thats why he struggled.
