  • King Ferdinand II of Bourbon had a secret escape route under the streets of Naples from the palace.
    Later this was used as a bomb shelter and refugee camp during the war.
    Can you imagine 10,000 people running down those stairs at the same time with bombs bursting in the air ?!
    The tunnels became a warehouse of sorts for abandoned vehicles and then were blocked off and forgotten. They were rediscovered in 2005, a very interesting way to spend a few hours in Naples!
