You Decide... Do a Sound Port... Yes or No?

- You Decide. The body of the acoustic guitar is together and now it's time to decide whether to do a sound port or not. What is your suggestion?
If so, do I do a design or a simple oval?
The port does allow for more airflow which I feel moves the top more and thus makes the guitar louder when played acoustically. The top of the guitar is like a drum. The thickness can determine the movement of the top. But, you don't want it too weak either.
There are many decisions to be made when building a guitar and deciding on a sound port is a big one. What do you think?

Brazilian rosewood is so beautiful all by itself that I wouldn't want to interrupt the grain pattern, so I vote no.

I can't believe its snowing up there! I will definitely take 10 BEAUTIFUL provinces over hot, suntan smelling Florida LOL. I will also take an Oval sound port with a fun geometric pattern hahaha.

I thought that this was the coldest May since the 1980's here in Western Canada, but it seems that maybe its the coldest May everywhere in Canada. :-)

Definitely a sound port. Either an oval or musical note design. Keep warm. It's 89° in sunny south FL and the humidity is brutal today.

Is there a temporary cover that can be put on the soundport?
I have been asked that question before and I've not build a guitar with the sound port cover. But it is something that is of interest to me. I know some builders have done that but just on one or two guitars and it's not a standard item.

Certainly very strange weather. Got quite a bit of snow up here in Markham but now it's just rain. Nice weather to keep you inside building guitars, right? :)
