I was wrong about Matt Barnes because appearances and demeanor don't mean everything on the court because he's humble, down-to-earth, and articulate off the court. I wish him well in LAC with Paul and Griffin.

Why are so many people assuming Barnes to be some kind of unintelligent thug? He went to UCLA for pete's sake... just because he gets in fights and is super emotional doesn't mean he can't be a gentleman with a high IQ smart. For all we know, off of the court, he's the nicest fucking guy ever who gives to charity and works for Green Peace. On the court, he just chooses to stand up for himself and be super outspoken because of what he's went through in his life.
People think he's a thug because he was friends with the Game who is a thug and who funny enough caused Matt Barnes' girl friend to cheat with him. Then he tried to start a feud with Barnes over it like thugs often times do. Appearance is everything my friend.

Shortly after this Maurice Cheeks was hired and fired by the Pistons after 50 games. Pretty much the same thing, some liked him some did not, either way it divided the team.
I've always liked Matt Barnes, no matter what team he was on, honestly. Dude is a great energy player. Has a constant chip on his shoulder. Great motivator and tough personality. Hopefully he does TV or coaching after the NBA, because I for one and maybe others would like to hear what he has to say.

We need to see more honest interviews where people reveal the people who did them wrong. Yes, in sports you need to be a great athlete but there is so much luck in staying healthy, improving each day, having good teammates and definitely having a coach who will give you playing time. If your coach does not believe in you then your career can be over.

Just saw this interview for the first time. I was a huge Maurice Cheeks fan growing up. Cheeks said in an interview 25 years ago he was surprised he made the Sixers coming out of college. He was always a quiet guy...lead by example type. I'm very disappointed he would treat one of his players like that. Sounds like he was a real jerk...again, very disappointed to hear that kind of stuff.
i've never heard one player talk negatively about cheecks, sounds like the coach didnt like his play at the time.

@@robertware663 my question to you: have you ever heard a person (former, current player or otherwise) talk negatively about matt barnes? If so, I would venture to say more people have done so about him then cheeks. All one has to do is look at Barnes' career (and post career) and it is easy to surmise that he is very lose with the lips on many topics. If coach cheeks did reprimand him, it was probably warranted. Yes, you are right, it is never appropriate to disrespect anybody, that is a fact that I will not disagree with you on.

I grew up with a single mother on welfare and food stamps, domestic violence, child abuse, drug abuse, in the home when my "father" was around. It impacted my brother and sisters immensely. Fathers being in the home and being positive examples to their children is without a doubt one of the most important ingredients for EVERYONE to have a shot at life.
