    This is very good advice! The most important is: no matter how expensive your outfit, tearing down another person is never ever classy.

  • @MeaGOfficial
    @MeaGOfficial 5 років тому +117

    You are so right about the classy vs not classy topic. Being classy is a style and not everyone has to follow this style. At the same time you can buy head to toe Chanel and still be tacky. Logos/brands doesn't make your STYLE a certain way is what you do with the items you buy and how you decide to wear them-and that's personal style.
    Ps.: I can not understand the multiple cardholder and wallet situation either lol.

    Great points! "Classy" is not limited to "classic" dressing. I think a lot of people dress "classic" because they're not confident in their own taste & worry following it may result in a tacky/non-classy look.

    “Sometimes the point of fashion is to do whatever your heart desires. Who gives a S*#% what the resale value is”. Finally someone is saying this!! If I hear one more thing about “re-sale” value I’m going to rip my eyelashes out. If you love it, just get the bag already! Fun and funny video. Thank you 😊

      This comment is 💯 true! I’ve never bought a bag thinking about re-sale ... I mean I get it, but ugh really ... one more video about a classic flap and how it’s an investment... it is I guess lol but I dont look at my closet as investments.... lol but hey I’ve also never sold a bag cuz I love them all!
      Great video Erica! Love ur channel💗

    My issue is not with logos like the ones you show but with people who buy items BECAUSE the designer's name is sprawled across the item, buying it only BECAUSE they want people to think they have money. That's tacky.

      you're saying an item with logos can sit fine in the butik as long as nobody buys it? no matter who buys it he/she is tacky then? you can't really know why peoply buy anything certainly not just jump into conclusion that they just wanna show off. People buy designer items because they happen to like them!

    Hi Erica- I am one of the - mostly, but not always- "classics" person...But, I have to say that I totally agree with your point of view. Fashion IS supposed to be fun! And not make you fearful so you choose to be boring just to be on the "safe" side. Seasonal fashion shows ( Milan, Paris etc.) are sometimes misunderstood: It's not that you have to blindly follow everything they show, but to give you the option of having fun with the designs as shown, and simply adapt them and use their ideas to express your own personality and taste. Great video as always!

And I totally agree with you about wearing logos!

  • @ganimebetul

    I agree with the list, especially with the point about SLGs and buying designer RTW. SLGs must be the way the luxury brands make money off people who will never part with their money to buy their bags or RTW. People see a card holder for 300-400 USD and think it is a good deal since they are not spending 3K on a bag. Just buy one good wallet and card holder and you are done.
    Also, the people who have every bog-standard instagrammer bag but are always wearing cheap polyester clothes from Zara. No need to pay 2K for a Channel top (no offense Erica) but invest in a cashmere jumper, a well-made blazer and in nice quality dresses, silk tops and well-fitting trousers from a quality brand. They don't even need to be from Louis Vuitton or Chanel. There are many much more affordable brands and contemporary/emerging designers that are at a higher price point but are worth the investment because they fit/fall so much better than the cheaper throw-away clothes.

    Finally, someone who gets me! As a recent luxury handbag shopper, I kept watching videos about only get the classic Chanel, and I still do want one, but I have been seeing so many beautiful and different bags, that I don't think I only want a Chanel only collection anymore. I need variety, example, I just scored the YSL Triangle Bag because fashion should be fun. I'm obsessed with it!

    Erica! 2 great topics in 2 days. You hit the nail on the head with these 7 mistakes and I totally agree. There is only so many wallets you can use. Buy one really nice one you love and when it start to look a bit tired invest in a new one. Also you are so right about starting to build up a quality clothes wardrobe. Really cool designer ready to wear items will last for years and make you look and feel great. It's definitely not just about bags. It's better to buy fewer items but the best clothes you can afford than to fill up your wardrobe with lots of clothes that fall apart after 3 months.

    Oh Erica, so on point, I see all this things and think the same things, like why you need so many SLG 's and sometimes in same colour. I also don't understand why someone need 6 to 8 pairs of Chanel Espradilles !! Nice video.

    • @TheBeautyNovel
      @TheBeautyNovel 5 років тому +2

      I can‘t speak on the exact example you gave but for me, but I own 3 pairs of Chanel ballet flats. Reason for it is that they are the only ballet flats that don‘t hurt my feet and they fit perfectly. I have the classic beige which I wear the most because they go with everything, I also have a black pair for more dressy occasions and also a navy pair because I wear a lot of dark blue jeans and it goes perfectly. I probably wouldn‘t buy a 4th pair though because the 3 I have are enough. So 6-8 pairs of the same shoe is a little excessive and I don‘t think you‘d get use out of every single pair. But I guess they just really love their espadrilles 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @runaalamgir7112
      @runaalamgir7112 5 років тому +1

      @@TheBeautyNovel I totally understand your situation, but you said it yourself , that you won't consider buying 4th pair, that I mean, if I love something soo much I will go highest upto 3, if I ever buy a Chanel Espradille , just one pair is enough I think , but upto 2 pair I find ok.

    I love you so much Erica! The classic rant was so on point! I personally like unique pieces, bold colors, huge shoulders, different prints, thigh high boots, metallics... I’d never want to dress classic unless I’m going to a formal event. i don’t get why anybody should be looked down upon if they don’t dress like Audrey Hepburn! It’s not everybody’s style. Imagine how boring life would be if we all dressed the same.

    Well done Erica 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 gentle tongue lashings mama! Agree with you on ALL counts! Logo when done correctly looks more like a pattern than logo, it’s stunning! I love seeing bag collections that have been acquired over time with killer pieces that are no longer available, some items exceed resell value when done correctly. Small leather goods in bulk give me anxiety and no I don’t have time to be changing my small leather goods 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Honestly after this video, I actually believe we think the same. I agree. I say whats the point of buying expensive clothes that quite honestly I want to show off and not show it off. I don’t get it. Express yourself. You are so right about resale value that people think of. I just got introduced to your videos a couple of months ago among other luxury item videos. That’s all you hear and it’s so annoying. They like the bag but won’t buy it because it’s not an investment. To me, if you like it, buy it. Hasn’t it always been like that

    Enjoyed your tips! Thank you for your being real and honest about your own mistakes about buying luxury items. I’ve actually implemented some of your tips; adding variety to my luxury collection like adding different types of bags instead of the same kind from the same fashion house, and also added belts, shoes and accessories like scarves and fashion jewelry to my collection. I’m very conscientious when it comes to putting together my outfits. I’m usually wearing only 2 designer items, bag and shoes or bag and belt or bag, belt and shoes but 1 of them have to be a very subtle logo.

A thousand SLGs? It’s never made sense to me. I totally agree with everything you said! Making it a point to add RTW to an already nice collection of bags and shoes is a must and that’s exactly where I am at currently ☺️ There are still a few category of bags I still need to add but it’s so important to add those beautiful high quality pieces of clothing to any collection. I like logos, but I think mixing logos most times look tacky. You are so right about spending tons of slgs and bag charms. I have two wallets and two cardholders. One cardholder holds my work ID and train pass. I do want a larger wallet that I can use as a clutch or a wow, but I only need one. Nobody needs three wallets in different colors. I think it’s smart to spend money on good quality pieces that are not too trendy. There’s plenty of brands that have excellent quality clothes that don’t cost thousands but are miles ahead of H&M.

    Good point on the difference between aesthetics and classy. Its all how you wear, not what you wear. I have several slgs and I do indeed rotate them, but tbh I don't give a rats if anyone sees them, its only important that I enjoy them. There's also the issue that I can't do RTW because its all the size of a handkerchief and just no. I do other high quality clothes because you're right, high quality clothes make a huge difference. I laugh at the resale conversations. Once it comes here it never leaves; resale is irrelevant.

    I never understood why people put so much emphasis on what another human being looks like. For example, what is Class E. All of this is prospective. And oftentimes a lot of this is coming from a European egocentric mindset. Because people come from different cultures. And one culture one thing it might be considered classy in another culture it might not. So when you get different ethnicities buying a Brand's clothing. Oftentimes they tend to style it based on the culture that they represent. Another thing that I don't like it's how to look expensive. What exactly is expensive? Is it the quality of the clothes? Is it how much you paid for the clothes? And then by whose standard or metric are we using. Because expensive is relative. And I agree with you about the small luxury items. Those things are impulse items. They tend to be the cheapest to buy. So when people are starting a luxury Channel they tend to start their first. And then when you can't afford the bigger items the luxury items help you keep that content flowing. now as far as walking into a restaurant with a $50 our address and a $2,000 bag. I don't really have a problem with that. I subscribe to a girl named Milo Lux. And I'll follow a lot of drag queens and they mix and match all the time as well. But to each his own. At the end of the day. They're just clothes you paid for wear them how you want

    You make an excellent point about black bags. A black bag is a black bag. Majority of the people not going to notice minute details. To them one black Chanel bag looks just like another. I personally own only one black bag and that is my work bag. For my days out, I like to have some color. But I got to say, logos are not my thing. I don't mind an SLG covered in logos, but never a bag or clothes. It would make me feel like a walking advertisement.

    Erica, I'm so glad you discussed the logo topic at length, nobody does that! I often complain to my husband that all the girls I like on youtube seem to love logos on everything they buy, but I don't like logos. After saying that to him a bunch of times I started thinking about this further and I have so many different thoughts. For instance, I heard that there was a new female designer at Dior and that the show was in Morocco, which I dream of visiting one day. When I watched the fashion show online I was whisked away into a Moroccan fantasy and was so inspired. I just imagined myself in another time wearing those clothes with my fabulous fantasy friends (we're all models in this fantasy) in a Moroccan resort. Then later in the show all the Dior logo belts and purses started showing up in the looks. I noticed it pulled me out of this fantasy world. So I think logos can pull me out of the fantasy the clothes are creating. My other criticism of logos is that whenever there is a logo there is usually a higher price on the item. This always makes me feel like I'm paying for the name and not the quality and the quality is what draws me to the designer items. So I guess it feels lazy by the designer like they just slap a logo on something and then can charge more. And last but not least, because I live in New York and so much of my life is walking instead of driving I feel like I have to be more careful with being flashy. I don't have a car as protection from the outside world so I would feel more vulnerable wearing logos. Now, because I went to college in Miami I totally understand the difference in style there. People are loud and loving it and a lot of your viewers will have no understanding of this until they actually visit and experience it for themselves. Also, an interesting phenomenon has happened to me with a recent designer Loewe bag that's making me think of trying something with logos. It is amazing quality and I love it, but a fascinating thing has happened to me in wearing it. An "in the know" person would recognize the very understated Loewe logo, but even at places like Barneys in New York I don't seem to get respect when wearing it. I'm not talking about out right rudeness or anything, but that subtle respect that sales people will give when they can tell you can afford what they are offering. So I think we know almost subconsciously that an obvious logo will just put it right out there front and center that this is a fancy bag darn it, respect me! I now see this as a true benefit in an almost primal way. Like I was eating at Bergdorfs the other day and almost every single woman had a Chanel bag. They know what says prestige. My fantasy woman I want to become when I imagine her probably doesn't wear logos, but I think I will see if I can experiment with them at least a little bit to give it a try. I am always pushing myself to be open minded and try new things. And I would encourage you to morph your pet peeve on the logo topic into love. I've developed a few pet peeves living in New York and I recently made an effort to let them go and it's really improved my life. Those ladies love you or they wouldn't watch you and enjoy what you are doing. Next time someone says one of those triggering things for you, just try letting it go. That's what I did and it actually worked and became my new habit! It felt really good to let it go. You will continue to love logos and they might never like them and that's okay, keep being yourself and letting your light shine.

      Sarah Elizabeth Foster - omg Sarah! What a beautiful thoughtful comment! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! I totally understand all your reasons for liking logos. Sometimes, there is just something that we are not attracted too and I think that it is totally ok. We don’t really choose what we love. It just happens. I just talking to my Hermes about this today. I was telling her that no matter what I do, I do not like silver hardware in Hermes bags. I am a gold girl and I when I see their palladium hardware bags, it’s just a turn off. I cannot bring myself to like it! So I think it is ok if someone doesn’t like logos. It is so personal. I just think people need to be more accepting of differences. I am so tired of being put down for not being classic! I know the exact collection from Dior you are talking about! It was absolutely stunning! It actually just hit stores! Thank for having an open mind and thank you for being such a ray of sunshine on my comments! And you are right: we need to let go of negativity. There is absolutely nothing good that comes out of it! Sending you much love!

    1. Yes, a "classic" style is still just a style. Not everyone likes it / feels like they fit it either (I'm in the second category). I do not own any "classic" bags because that is not my style. Sometimes I feel like my style would be "better" if I had more classic pieces. I'd get a massive urge to invest in a classic luxury bag, but I cannot bring myself to buy one just because I don't love it as much as I should. Or I just look OUT OF PLACE.
    2. I so agree with you about better quality / better quality looking clothes! A luxury bag can only go so far. Even if you have casual better quality clothes, you get the effect that the look is better because of all the detail, fit, material that went into the garments.

    Erica would you ever consider (sometimes) wearing high end, colorful statement necklaces by artist/designers for a pop of color and fun in place of the logos? just for a change of pace..it would look soooo good on you and you may enjoy changing it up a little too. I agree classic is boring, but there are definitely other things you can do besides logos to show the fun creative colorful side of your style...that you may enjoy. (just be open minded to the idea:)

    This video was very helpful. I agree with you. Funny, I just came back from the Chanel store, (here in Las Vegas!!!!) and I saw a pair of sunglasses. When you said not to buy little, things (I've been looking for a bag since January. It will be my first, so it has to be FABULOUS), I said, "OK, I made up my mind, I'm not going to buy the $435 sunglasses, when I have several really nice ones (NOT CHANEL though, LOL). Then you said, "The Whole Look!!" Uh Oh, I need the sunglasses. I went on the website and there they were right on top, with the model wearing THEM!!! They look so good in person and great on me!!! I just kept saying, "Oh My God!" I felt like a Billion bucks. On my way home, I saw a license plate that said, "DARE2BU". I'm thinking to buy the sunglasses. And I buy bags that have a zipper in them. I put my card(s) and license in it, and there you have it! No need for a card holder or wallet. But I do have a pouch to hold miscellaneous things.

    I still think logos are tacky. And a classy style makes you look elegant and refined easier.

    • @thalia7104
      @thalia7104 5 років тому +3

      Actually, I like both! I definitely dress in a very classy way, but I do enjoy some logos on my wallet 😉! But Erica is right, never should one person think she is better than another person, just because she dresses classy. I, for instance, hate jeans. I would never wear them. But if someone else loves wearing them, that's none of my business 🤷🏻‍♀️. (In general, I only think ripped and distressed jeans should really be thought over, they're simply ugly (sorry, personal opinion 🙊🙈!))

    • @bruissancho
      @bruissancho 5 років тому +1

      @@thalia7104 sure and I agree. SLGs are easy to wear and enjoy. Even some logo earrings, maybe a necklace or a scarf, they give you that special touch. I see more important to get focused on the fit, fabric and quality of the clothing. You could be wearing a Zara upper cashmere quality sweater with some nice bottom part, and killer Gianvito Rossi. No logos, no visible brands. And it would definitely make you look fancier than wearing and outfit of $4000 just in clothes from any logo-friendly brand.
      Referring to the fact of thinking you're better than anybody else because of your clothes, that's ridiculous. I'd never do that. You can like it more or not, but it's not your body, style and money spent so we all are up to choose whatever we feel comfortable in. ✨

    • @thalia7104
      @thalia7104 5 років тому +1

      @@bruissancho Absolutely! I like Wolford a lot. They have very high quality, and actually, my wardrobe is complete with what I have. The pieces I have never go out of style. Since my body frame hasn't changed, I can even wear clothes I bought when I was about 16 years old (saved my pocket money for good clothing). Now and then I added a piece (if it was something special), but in general, I really don't "need" to buy any clothes 😊. I agree with Erica, one should have fun. But if you are happy with those clothes you have, then everything is fine (and you can spend the money on something else or just save it up for travelling or a more expensive item). And, to be honest, I think I would look ridiculous in clothes that are not classy 🤦🏻‍♀️😂! But that's the point, what is best for one person doesn't necessarily be the best way for another person...

    Everyone has their own personal style and everyone is individual and unique in every way. Either they are classic , boho,rock etc. If everyone would dress the same the world would be boring. Whatever your style is the main thing is to feel great and always be chic and classy.

    Hi Erica! I am new to your channel and I am loving your personality and what I am seeing! Although my style leans toward the classic side, I thought I’d comment on what you were saying about people saying they couldnt follow you because you dont have their style or because you like logos. I think its beautiful when people learn from those who may be different from them or are open to different mindsets/people. What came to mind when watching this video was the show sex and the City. (Idk if you’ve watched it or not but if you have you will understand what Im about to say). All 4 women had different styles of dressing. Carrie was daring in her style, Charlotte was classic and timeless, Samantha was sexy and Miranda was sometimes boyish but they were all best friends! Their styles didnt stop them from hanging out with each other or loving each other and they didnt downplay each other’s styles and I really loved that about the show! So I say that to say that people shouldn’t put limits on another person and should broaden their horizons. No one is better than the next! Its Preference and its what makes the world a beautiful melting pot! 😊

    Love your energy and honesty! To me, Being classy doesn’t mean dressing classic it means being respectful to others. What is classic to me may not be classic to someone else. Fashion is about self expression. It’s a form of art. So... in the words of Rodney King, “can’t we all just get along?” (Have I aged myself now? Haha!) Keep up the great videos! I always learn something new to try from you. 💕
