I as a black woman went into Vuitton Palo Alto looking to purchase three specific items in person - ignored for the first 10 minutes (store was almost empty) until one of the associates who was just returning from lunch asked me if he could help while the others just stood around. Got the items I went for (the ones that were actually "in stock") never went back. Two months later took my daughter to Tory Burch SF for some Miller sandals. Greeted, given beverages and a seat to await having the shoes brought out. Warm sales person, positive experience, woman owned business. Two sales people ended up helping us - I bought a cute little Miller purse for my daughter, the Miller sandals and a scarf and tote for myself. Guess where I'm a repeat customer? Also had a fun shopping experience at MCM Las Vegas. If you can't act like a normal respectful human to your customer I'll spend my dollars where they do.
I have definitely started a Tory Burch collection. Tory is worth every penny and although people just love to keep comparing her to Chanel... I still find her collections to be different and unique.
I had the same experience with LV Palo Alto! I did not find what I wanted. So I was really annoyed with the way I was ignored and decided to spend… I made a purchase and paid all in $100’s it would have been better if they were in $1’s… I know that was bad… then I the same day I went into SF and exchanged it for something I really wanted ,the service there was waaay better. SF is my usual store anyways and I was just @ Stanford that morning for an appointment. I will check out Tory Burch next time, is it the one @ Union Square? I know there was or is one at the Mall which is sadly like a ghost town.
As someone who’s been buying and wearing luxury designer goods since the 90’s I’ve been feeling like the prices now just don’t make any sense . The quality isn’t there anymore and customer service at alot of these retailers is subpar for the most part. The resale market just makes more sense financially with everything going on in the world .
Yes! I was just at a luxury hotel in Washington DC last week. I spotted a woman with a vintage LV canvas satchel. I couldn’t place the date when it was made but I know it was real and at least 20 years old. I couldn’t stop staring. I never said anything to her. It had such beautiful patina and was so elegant. No ugly wear at the edges but graceful slouchy wear. I bet she carried this bag every day! Some of the newer bags fall apart and show wear after a few months of carrying and look like they’re all beat up.
I’m a luxury girly and I have scaled back big time. Prices are too high and I have realized I need to save more and enjoy the little things in life that really matter. More money, more peace 😊
I completely agree with you on all points. The repeated price increases during covid were just pure greed. I rather spend $5000 going on a cruise than on a leather sack that sits on a shelf in my closet.
We are finally returning to personal style! With 2024 being a year of exposure, people are waking up-realizing that the luxury collections we once idolized aren’t realistic. Instead of being told what to like, we’re curating our own tastes, embracing individuality, and owning our style. I love to see it! ❤️
Having recently visited Italy as an example and seeing so many beautiful and unique leather pieces for $100-$200, I have changed my view on luxury as well. I have a large collection of luxury bags but now gravitating more to the well made, beautiful leather bags instead of an LV or YSL logo to name a few.
Luxury will never be dead. Sure many cannot afford it anymore, but some will never stop. Personally I don’t wear my pink glasses anymore, I see throughout these luxury houses. Just an example, Hermès, when I see people defending that brand with their whole heart, I’m like what are you doing? It might be quality but you still pay a huge premium for the name. You get played so much. I don’t look at my Birkins or other Hermès bags the way I was before. What I love doing is finding pieces that I haven’t seen before. I get zero compliments on my bags or rtw from big brands but get compliments on items that are niche and nobody heard about because it’s not in the big stores.
I used to love luxury, and now I'm all about experience and spending time with my family. Im not excited about luxury handbags anymore. However, Coach is doing the doggone thing! Coach has always been my 1st love and will remain my 1st love. Tory Burch is my 2nd her items look and feel luxurious. Contemporary is where I'm at, and I'm loving life and saving money.
Sergio thank you for speaking on this. The lack of customer service when they think you aren’t a millionaire, the price point, etc. I look at luxury items completely different.
I completely agree with reason number 3! I used to be a devoted fan of Emilio Pucci, but after LVMH acquired full ownership, I noticed a noticeable decline in quality. The print execution used to be flawless, everything now has obvious out of register printing defects. I just can’t bring myself to even look at their collections anymore. They have ruined this fashion house 💔
Yep. I think only people who don’t think luxury has taken a nosedive are influencers, rich content creators and those getting free PR. The everyday person is turning more towards more affordable luxury.
I sold shoes in the late 80's. Ferragamo/Chanel were around $200 --give or take, where 9 West about $65. What is the spread now?? OUT OF CONTROL!!! There is NOT $800 difference between the luxury and "regular". Besides, we wear them outside!!! This is ALL snobbishness!!
I picked up a Gianni Versace jacket from the 80s and the quality was amazing. I was flabbergasted at how much better it was than any current pieces I own
This was a great video. I loved the subject matter and how you presented it. Luxury Fashion is now only for the wealthy. Years ago a hardworking woman could go in to LV and buy a bag and be thrilled to go to the boutique and have the experience. Now an average hardworking woman will not go into the boutique for all the reasons you listed. It’s not fun anymore and it’s way too expensive. That woman has different priorities to address like trying to shelter and feed herself with the salary she has. You don’t need to have 3 dozen handbags to fit in or to be happy. Life is short and living your best life is important not luxury.
About your point number 5 regarding rude SAs, I was thinking that the general attitude of high luxury stores (Dior on up) to essentially belittle their customers into proving that they're worthy to shop there is more effective with my generation (GenX) than with younger shoppers. We grew up thinking this kind of nastiness was a normal way for people to treat each other, and we are easy to hook into this kind of game. Industries can't survive unless they can attract future generations. No way are Millienials, let alone GenZ, going to put up with this toxic dynamic, especially when they can walk into Coach and be greeted with friendly, helpful faces.
I went through a similar journey. I don’t think the employees being rude in the store is why it’s dying. I think their customer base has died out and they were largely unable to capture gen z, and perhaps like you said, it was because of Tik Tok. Tik Tok means fashion houses aren’t the movers and shakers they used to be. Now there are emerging mini-trends like cottage core trad wives and gen z doesn’t care like the boomers and gen X did. And Millennials are broke.
Thank you for this video. I do not understand, how people still buy the subpar quality for extortionate prices. I started buying luxury, because I thought I would get quality. Well, we learned in the past few years how far from reality this is (cough Dior and Armani cough). Those conglomerates, in my opinion, are just ridiculously priced fast fashion brands. And I find most of the designs really boring because they are just recycling old ideas. Plus I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of collections they are releasing each year. I now rather support local brands where craftsmanship, quality and originality are still being valued and where I support a small business.
The funniest thing I have heard an luxury influencer say was “ this is my [hermes bag] I don’t even like it. I just bought it because I didn’t want to disappoint my SA. And I had to think about the fact that I want a Birkin.” I was like girl WHAT ? WHAT IN THE WORLD. People are spending thousands of dollars to not disappoint an SA. Some people need help and not handbags..
Most of my bags are LV, it's my fave brand actually but i slowed down this year because seriously, how many bags a girl needs😂. My husband and I had a really good lux experience at LV Paris flagship boutique. We shopped in Vegas and Texas too and we had a good time so I feel bad to those who weren't treated right because these are big purchases😢. For the next Paris trip, i only intend to buy scarves that I like and no more bags. I hope these big brands will focus more on quality and luxury service/experience.
I used to dance at a club, I was making about 200k a year and even then I never spent on self proclaimed luxury brands because why spend $4000 for a purse when a $30 purse does the exact same thing! ... when clients offered to buy me expensive purses/clothes, I'd always tell them to give me the cash instead. I dont understand why I should spend more money soley to make a company rich lol 😂
Good! I was a server at a club that has dancers! What’s funny is other dancers would make fun other girls calling them “cheap” “broke” etc. Fast forward they’re the ones with Gucci bags and no car struggling 💀
I love fashion but now that im older, seeing others especially men who really do peacock dressing is such a turn off. I do not know if im more aware of the BS but after covid and all, all these are so fluff. And at the same time it is way way too mainstream
What's dead is people telling you what is dead. Fashion is someone's personal expression and so tired of people pushing their trends on something that should be a form of self-expression.
@nicolebrathwaite5330 Fashion used to be a form of self-expression, creative, and individuality. However, that has drastically changed, call it a result of social media or whatever. People are caught up with trends now, so the fashion industry has monopolized that opportunity.
The prices are ridiculous. You made such great points. I agree with you 100% about walking out due to bad service and disrespect. I get better service at TJ Maxx and Ross to be honest.
Subscribed! I love this conversation! For me it’s quality that’s of importance , not the brand, not what I’m spending, not to fit. And most importantly, I have to love it! It’s for me! I think people are waking up as well. Thank you for this topic 🤍
Agreed! I love contemporary but they too are accelerating their price increases too often. I was tracking a Polene bag I have wanted for three years and they have already had three price increases. I am over it.
From $900 to $1890!! Wow GTHO H! They’re insane. That’s why people are getting those high end dupes/replicas, I can only imagine, or spending with other lower tier brands.
Federal minimum wage in the US is STILL 7.50/HR. the income gap between rich and working class gets bigger, while wages stay stagnant. They think people are going to still spend their hard earned money on overpriced mediocre items. They're delusional.
not the whole us just certain states. I’m in California and minimum is $16, my little cousin who is 19 makes $23 working at yogurt land. I also know someone working at taking for $19 an hour
Such a great video! Love your channel! Luxury item prices have gotten out of hand. The few luxury bags that I own are pre-owned, except for one. My favorite designer brand is Tory Burch. Love her bags & shoes. Very well made.
I agree! I watch people here on UA-cam that buy all of these luxury things, have luxury vehicles that need maintenance and won’t buy or fix that, but will buy a luxury bag??? People taking their vehicles to jiffy lube. A Range Rover going to jiffy lube😫😫 make it make sense.
I knew this was going to happen! I started upgrading my wardrobe in 2022, and not a single item is "designer." Every piece is high quality, with no logos and will last me years to come. I turn heads everywhere i go and the girls dripped down in designer gets so jealous 😂😂
This is so true! Everything you said 100 Percent true!! I work at a college and the younger generation doesn't care anything about luxury. Gex X was the last generation that was really into luxury. Creating memories and experiences is so important. Also, the quality is just not there anymore. Thank you for sharing!!!
Honestly you are right about the cavities thing, I have a feeling a lot of people need glasses as well and aren’t getting them with the amount of people driving with brights on where I live
In regards to fake bags, you are right people have the choice to wear them. I just wish they spent their money on bags like Polene, Tory Burch, Coach, Strathberry etc. they are beautiful! I feel if you can’t afford a Chanel or LV maybe consider bags that are good quality, do t look cheap like a fake could and won’t break the bank.
Why is it greedy for these brands to charge that price and the Row can charge equally ridiculous prices for “subtle” signaling? The whole thing is stupid.
I rock a BALENCIAGA Le City bag dupe I have smothered in bag charms; I am renaming her "The Starseed Completionist Bag" and have realized the only one who needs to enjoy it is me and that my individual charms actually tell my story and not some corporation's tired old narrative so there.
Please share where you got the dupe. I sold all my authentic city and town bags years ago and I don’t want to support the brand paying retail. I also think The Real Real lies about the condition of their bags and Fashionphile is greedy! 😢
Refreshing video! I know people who are very well off financially and they buy reps or easy to access brands like Coach. Just something food for thought.
I don’t think luxury is dead, but it’s just getting to a point where the prices are just weird lol. They don’t make sense. I won’t stop buying luxury, but I am def annoyed with the pricing. Don’t even get me started on Chanel prices…..at least this is how I feel. Even the vintage market prices are inflated these days. I still love luxury, and I love a good markdown 😂!
Great video! I like luxury items but have bought preloved and only have one new LV Speedy 35 I bought for my college graduation. Dooney and Bourke is my number one, but Coach has been putting out some nice pieces. But even their leather has gotten a little less in quality too. I appreciate your video and makes sense to me. TFS 😊❤
I will still buy high luxury on occasion - maybe a small leather good or a twilly - I enjoy these items and the experience of buying in store the packaging etc but I don’t have to shell out 1000s for a product which will make me anxious to use. I AM OVER playing games with LVMH brands and Chanel - I don’t expect to get princess treatment for walking in (those days are over) but I do expect someone to try to help me meet my needs etc. to seem overall attentive and personable. I have had stellar experience shopping handbag dept at regional dept store Von Maur that carries a lot of contemporary brands. I’ve had a great time in coach - and while LVMH owned Marc Jacobs boutiques. I also am interested in seeing and trying new brands like Strarhberry etc. thanks for the video!
I heard LV doesn't even do authentication anymore because the qualityA wealthy colleague of mine often brings *regbags* bags to parties, but because she is dressed in high-end jewelry from head to toe, no one would think her bags are fake!
I agree with you. I stopped buying luxury bags. I already collected what I needed. The last purses that I purchased last year are Gucci White Marmont crossbody and Lady Dior Medium Black Patent bag. It's time to save more money😊
I have always thought luxury feeds into people's insecurities and wanting to fit and be accepted. There is various psychology studies about this. Also the culture of exclusivity created by luxury brands does not appeal to me. There is definitely a shift happening. Money is money and these brands need to treat all customers equally if they are spending the money with any brand.
They are STILL making a profit with 70/80/90% off at the outlets. That's saying a lot. BTW you need to be careful to not undermine your day job there Sergio. Take care. ❤💚💙
I now only buy vintage or gently used. They are made 100% better at a lesser price. My tip is only buy those that are rated in excellent condition and look for limited additions. Most of my bags are not worth more than I bought them for . . .
Great video! Definitely it is very eye opening, you are completely right, there are things that a way more important to put our focus on❤ I'm also super excited for contemporary designers as well, i have been eyeing those bags more than luxury
I choose to shop cruelty free so haven't indulged in most luxury brands. No leather, fur, or feathers. I am not impressed by any high end purses or the attitudes that they represent.
I agree with all of your points especially the bad quality. also, luxury fashion just looks tacky to me lately and all these replicas just made luxury fashion lose its appeal
The price increases of these brands and me having to inspect the quality upon receiving them isn't my money. I'll still splurge on more affordable pieces, but my main go to is preloved.
One of the reasons you’re not gonna see a Birkin is cause you live in Texas. That is not the fashion capital that desires to have a Birkin. Anyone can have fashions, but that doesn’t mean you know fashion. Big difference and I see it a lot with these UA-cam channels.
All great points! Thank you for this video! Everything is going up. We need to prioritize our hard earned money. Invest it in something that is going to generate money for you. 3/4 of those bags you can buy a rental property or something.
I don’t think luxury is dead, but I definitely think a lot more consumers are looking towards the contemporary products because they just can’t afford these prices. I think it will take a little bit of time, but the luxury brands will diversify their portfolios better, offering more accessible Items, and price points (hopefully). I still enjoy luxury, but I’m choosing to shop at the brands that actually offer good quality. I do wish that vintage and pre- loved luxury content was more popular on UA-cam. It seems like everybody wants a NEW bag even if it’s a fake. But I see so many quality luxury gems when I shop second hand 🥲 But to each their own! I’m surprised to always hear people say that they don’t get good customer service in luxury stores. I’ve had very few instances of bad service and they almost always are at Chanel. (Fendi is the best! 😊)
So true 🎉 alot of things are over priced not only fashion. Alot of retail big department store have shut down in uk like house of fraser, Debenhams all moved online just to deduct theire stocks or have old stock on sale! Im still waiting for louis & balenciaga to bring back their discontinued which i love and missed. New luxury is knowledge and art i think. ❤
The arbitrary price hikes were insulting-unprovoked, absurd, and frankly, racist. The Hermès game of spending for a maybe is ridiculous, and Chanel was the final straw. $9K for a mini flap? Insane. And let’s not even start on the declining quality-prices keep rising while craftsmanship deteriorates. Luxury has lost its soul. The designs are uninspired, lacking character or flair, and brands are chasing trends like SHEIN instead of setting them. To top it off, customer service has plummeted. As a Black woman, I already expected disrespect from SAs, but the blatant discrimination has only worsened. I still love luxury bags, but at this point, the opportunity cost of dropping thousands on one just isn’t worth it.
I've been noticing people are loving a more casual, beach-y 'resortwear' look, and brands from Sydney, Australia are leading the way. Like Zimmerman. Also brands from Sydney fashion influencers like Sammy Robinson's One Mile and Sophia Dopha's All For Mimi. Zimmerman has a more affordable beachwear line and the influencer labels are also set at a mid-range price point...
i bought 2 lady diot east west vintage at the real real 2 weeks ago. they were like 535 and 636 dollars. i think thats the real cost of luxury bags. im not paying over a thousand anymore for any bags. not in this era
I still love luxury, but I refuse to pay these crazy prices when the quality is different. I've been wearing luxury clothing and bags for over twenty years, and I see Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Dior all go down the drain when prices increase. I will buy that rare piece that's exclusive, affordable, and worth the quality, but nobody is really talking about MCM. MCM is everything.
Wow Sergio l so agree with you about all the things you touched on.. there are other important things everyone deserves respect. And l still like nice items as well. 😊
If i had a son who spend so much money on luxury items i woul certainly make sure i leave very little of my money for this person. Because in my mind the person would not have any respect for my money, because it will be gone in no time. I like what you say about not treated awful bysales staff. I wsnt into a store an the man told me i could not afford the bag, i know it was because i was black. So i showed himthe wod of money i had and walk out
Grocery shopping is the new luxury...
REAL

Yes
Big facts!
adding many people in nyc just use reg totes bags like trader joes or from a book store.

correct! we should NOT settle for sub-par treatment with premium price tags
Don’t know why you bring race into this 🤡🤡🤡🤡

Me too!
Buying eggs is the new luxury…
This lil’ egg lover agrees🐷

sometimes wearing and buying high end brands it becomes a uniform and lacks individual style

Yep. Beautiful artistry mixed with luxury quality is now no more thanks to LVMH and their cheaply made products.
Yep. I think only people who don’t think luxury has taken a nosedive are influencers, rich content creators and those getting free PR. The everyday person is turning more towards more affordable luxury.

Also Sergio I sense such a kindness in warmth in you. I’m sure you make your customers feel special even if they’re shopping lower price points.
Folks also are afraid to carry those types of bags in some parts of Los Angeles without being targeted for robbery.
Yes. That goes for every city in the western world.
Same for London !

Agreed! I love contemporary but they too are accelerating their price increases too often. I was tracking a Polene bag I have wanted for three years and they have already had three price increases. I am over it.
LVMH got em- became an investor in the company last year so here come the price hikes!
I wouldn't buy Polene.
From $900 to $1890!! Wow GTHO H! They’re insane. That’s why people are getting those high end dupes/replicas, I can only imagine, or spending with other lower tier brands.
The brands got greedy… the quality isn’t matching the price!
It’s the greed and lack of quality for me 😢
LMFAOOOOO not get your oil changed or check your cavities 😂 that killed me.
I work hard and love designer items. But lately?!? Double and triple the price? No thanks especially LV.
Yeah this generation got excited over a Stanley Cup and Wirkin bag so their not checking for lux like that
Why is it greedy for these brands to charge that price and the Row can charge equally ridiculous prices for “subtle” signaling? The whole thing is stupid.
I rock a BALENCIAGA Le City bag dupe I have smothered in bag charms; I am renaming her "The Starseed Completionist Bag" and have realized the only one who needs to enjoy it is me and that my individual charms actually tell my story and not some corporation's tired old narrative so there.
Please share where you got the dupe. I sold all my authentic city and town bags years ago and I don’t want to support the brand paying retail. I also think The Real Real lies about the condition of their bags and Fashionphile is greedy! 😢
Girl I just love your personality.
Loved this. There is a shift in the air. subscribed.
Refreshing video! I know people who are very well off financially and they buy reps or easy to access brands like Coach. Just something food for thought.
Exactly!! That's why they are well off!!
I don't judge anyone on what they do or wear. They're happy, and it has nothing to do with me. Totally agree with you.
Keep up the good work 👊🏽❤️
I’ve been tired of it for a few years now . Also the silly price increase I don’t even know who wants to do it anymore !
TFS 😊❤
You dropped so many jewels! 😍
I've decided that if the quality is such that I cannot pass it down to my daughters, it's a no. Luxury should include longevity.
Wow I love your growth. You get it!❤
Sephora itself is owned by LVMH.
Everything you said. It ALL. Thank you for saying it! 🙏🏽
There were no lies told in this vlog 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
What a great conversation I appreciate yr perspective because of yr experience ❤❤❤
thank you for watching!
I heard LV doesn't even do authentication anymore because the qualityA wealthy colleague of mine often brings *regbags* bags to parties, but because she is dressed in high-end jewelry from head to toe, no one would think her bags are fake!
I love your honesty! ❤
The average person cannot afford luxury fashion anymore. It's making ends meet paying for just groceries and paying bills.
Love this ! You are growing up friend ❤
They are STILL making a profit with 70/80/90% off at the outlets. That's saying a lot. BTW you need to be careful to not undermine your day job there Sergio. Take care. ❤💚💙
“The up and down treatment” 😭😭😭 they really be triggering the “self worth” wound
Best video in a while Sergio! Thank you for your honesty and authenticity.
Not only the prices are unreasonably high, the quality just suxxxxx!!
At those prices , just get a local craft person to make it
I now only buy vintage or gently used. They are made 100% better at a lesser price. My tip is only buy those that are rated in excellent condition and look for limited additions. Most of my bags are not worth more than I bought them for . . .
The definition of luxury shifts and I love it
Great video! Definitely it is very eye opening, you are completely right, there are things that a way more important to put our focus on❤ I'm also super excited for contemporary designers as well, i have been eyeing those bags more than luxury
Paying a mortgage or rent is LUXE ASF!😮
I choose to shop cruelty free so haven't indulged in most luxury brands. No leather, fur, or feathers. I am not impressed by any high end purses or the attitudes that they represent.
I love when you do videos with your expertise ❤
Will you be starting your Hermes journey?
Loved this video! I am 62 and do not own a luxury bag for one reason……I can’t afford it.
All great points! Thank you for this video! Everything is going up. We need to prioritize our hard earned money. Invest it in something that is going to generate money for you. 3/4 of those bags you can buy a rental property or something.
This video was very informative. Thank you.
I think contemporary brands are better and definitely on the rise.
Dries Van Noten Retired ! Nobody is talking about it. His clothes are glamorous, fairly priced and go on sale quick.
i bought 2 lady diot east west vintage at the real real 2 weeks ago. they were like 535 and 636 dollars. i think thats the real cost of luxury bags. im not paying over a thousand anymore for any bags. not in this era
I'm more of a Loro Piana girl❤ I find the nicest things second hand. The prices don't match the quality of the other luxury items such as LV.
Omg that was plastic??? I can’t believe Versace cheapened out like that!
